We study interference patterns in the ϕ→(Îła0+π0ρ)â†’ÎłÏ€Î·\phi\to(\gamma a_0+\pi^0\rho)\to\gamma\pi\eta and ϕ→(Îłf0+π0ρ)â†’ÎłÏ€0π0\phi\to(\gamma f_0+\pi^0\rho)\to\gamma \pi^0\pi^0 reactions. Taking into account the interference, we fit the experimental data and show that the background reaction does not distort the π0η\pi^0\eta spectrum in the decay Ï•â†’ÎłÏ€Î·\phi\to\gamma\pi\eta everywhere over the energy region and does not distort the π0π0\pi^0\pi^0 spectrum in the decay Ï•â†’ÎłÏ€0π0\phi\to\gamma\pi^0\pi^0 in the wide region of the π0π0\pi^0\pi^0 system invariant mass, mππ>670m_{\pi\pi}>670 MeV, or when the photon energy is less than 300 MeV. We discuss the details of the scalar meson production in the radiative decays and note that there are reasonable arguments in favor of the one-loop mechanism ϕ→K+K−→γa0\phi\to K^+K^-\to\gamma a_0 and ϕ→K+K−→γf0\phi\to K^+K^-\to\gamma f_0. We discuss also distinctions between the four-quark, molecular, and two-quark models and argue that the Novosibirsk data give evidence in favor of the four-quark nature of the scalar a0(980)a_0(980) and f0(980)f_0(980) mesons.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, title is changed, a few clarifying remarks are added, accepted for publication in Physical Review

We study the decay Ï•â†’ÎłK+K−\phi\to\gamma K^+K^- taking into account the scalar mesons production Ï•â†’Îł(f0+a0)→γK+K−\phi\to\gamma(f_0+a_0) \to\gamma K^+K^- and the final state radiation. We note that the relative sign between the final state radiation amplitude and the scalar meson production amplitude is fixed in the K+K−K^+K^- loop model which describes data on the Ï•â†’Îłf0â†’ÎłÏ€Ï€\phi\to \gamma f_0\to\gamma\pi\pi and Ï•â†’Îła0â†’ÎłÏ€Î·\phi\to\gamma a_0\to\gamma\pi\eta decays. As consequence this model predicts the definite interference between the final state radiation and the scalar resonance production amplitudes. We calculate the mass spectra of the Ï•â†’ÎłK+K−\phi\to\gamma K^+K^- decay and the differential cross-sections for e+eâˆ’â†’Ï•â†’ÎłK+K−e^+e^-\to\phi\to\gamma K^+K^- and for e+eâˆ’â†’Ï•â†’ÎłK0Kˉ0e^+e^-\to\phi\to\gamma K^0\bar K^0 reactions.Comment: typos remove

On nature of scalar a_0(980) and f_0(980)-mesons

    Get PDF
It is presented a critical consideration of all unusual properties of the scalar a_0(980) and f_0(980)-mesons in the four-quark, two-quark and molecular models. The arguments are adduced that the four-quark model is more preferable. It is discussed the complex of experiments that could finally resolve this issue.Comment: 6 pages, LaTeX 2e, uses espcrc1.sty, Plenary Talk given at 8th International Conference on HADRON Spectroscopy (HADRON 99), Beijing, China, 24-28 August 199

    Large Nc and Chiral Dynamics

    Get PDF
We study the dependence on the number of colors of the leading pi pi scattering amplitude in chiral dynamics. We demonstrate the existence of a critical number of colors for and above which the low energy pi pi scattering amplitude computed from the simple sum of the current algebra and vector meson terms is crossing symmetric and unitary at leading order in a truncated and regularized 1/Nc expansion. The critical number of colors turns out to be Nc=6 and is insensitive to the explicit breaking of chiral symmetry. Below this critical value, an additional state is needed to enforce the unitarity bound; it is a broad one, most likely of "four quark" nature.Comment: RevTeX4, 6 fig., 5 page

Radiative decays with light scalar mesons and singlet-octet mixing in ChPT

We study different types of radiative decays involving f0(980) and a0(980) mesons within a unified ChPT-based approach at one-loop level. Light scalar resonances which are seen in pi pi, pi eta, K K-bar channels of phi(1020) radiative decays and in J/psi decays are responsible for key questions of low-energy dynamics in the strong interaction sector, and decays phi(1020) -> gamma a0(980), phi(1020) -> gamma f0(980), a0(980) -> gamma gamma, f0(980) -> gamma gamma are of interest for current experimental programs in Juelich, Frascati and Novosibirsk. From theoretical point of view it is important to verify whether light scalar mesons are members of some flavor octet or nonet. We find a value of mixing angle dictated by consistency with experiment and coupling structures of ChPT Lagrangian. Decay widths f0(980)/a0(980) -> gamma rho(770)/omega(782), which are not studied experimentally yet, are predicted. We also obtain several relations between widths, which hold independently of coupling constants and represent a fingerprint of the model.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures; misprints in text and tables corrected, discussion extended, references added; version accepted for publication in Eur.Phys.J.

    Study of K0∗(1430)K^*_0(1430) and a0(980)a_0(980) from B→K0∗(1430)πB\to K^*_0(1430)\pi and B→a0(980)KB\to a_0(980)K Decays

We use the decay modes B→K0∗(1430)πB \to K^*_0(1430) \pi and B→a0(980)KB \to a_0(980) K to study the scalar mesons K0∗(1430)K^*_0(1430) and a0(980)a_0(980) within perturbative QCD framework. For B→K0∗(1430)πB \to K^*_0(1430) \pi, we perform our calculation in two scenarios of the scalar meson spectrum. The results indicate that scenario II is more favored by experimental data than scenario I. The important contribution from annihilation diagrams can enhance the branching ratios about 50% in scenario I, and about 30% in scenario II. The predicted branching ratio of B→a0(980)KB \to a_0(980) K in scenario I is also less favored by the experiments. The direct CP asymmetries in B→K0∗(1430)πB \to K^*_0(1430) \pi are small, which are consistent with the present experiments.Comment: More references are added. Published Versio

f0(980) meson as a K bar K molecule in a phenomenological Lagrangian approach

We discuss a possible interpretation of the f0(980) meson as a hadronic molecule - a bound state of K and bar K mesons. Using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach we calculate the strong f0(980) to pi pi and electromagnetic f0(980) to gamma gamma decays. The compositeness condition provides a self-consistent method to determine the coupling constant between f0 and its constituents, K and bar K. Form factors governing the decays of the f0(980) are calculated by evaluating the kaon loop integrals. The predicted f0(980) to pi pi and f0(980) to gamma gamma decay widths are in good agreement with available data and results of other theoretical approaches.Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, revised version accepted for publication in Eur. Couplings of light I=0 scalar mesons to simple operators in the complex plane

The flavour and glue structure of the light scalar mesons in QCD are probed by studying the couplings of the I=0 mesons σ(600)\sigma(600) and f0(980)f_0(980) to the operators qˉq\bar{q}q, αsG2\alpha_s G^2 and to two photons. The Roy dispersive representation for the ππ\pi\pi amplitude t00(s)t_0^0(s) is used to determine the pole positions as well as the residues in the complex plane. On the real axis, t00t_0^0 is constrained to solve the Roy equation together with elastic unitarity up to the K\Kbar threshold leading to an improved description of the f0(980)f_0(980). The problem of using a two-particle threshold as a matching point is discussed. A simple relation is established between the coupling of a scalar meson to an operator jSj_S and the value of the related pion form-factor computed at the resonance pole. Pion scalar form-factors as well as two-photon partial-wave amplitudes are expressed as coupled-channel Omn\`es dispersive representations. Subtraction constants are constrained by chiral symmetry and experimental data. Comparison of our results for the qˉq\bar{q}q couplings with earlier determinations of the analogous couplings of the lightest I=1 and I=1/2I=1/2 scalar mesons are compatible with an assignment of the σ\sigma, Îș\kappa, a0(980)a_0(980), f0(980)f_0(980) into a nonet. Concerning the gluonic operator αsG2\alpha_s G^2 we find a significant coupling to both the σ\sigma and the f0(980)f_0(980).Comment: 31 pages, 5 figure
