A Research on Relationship between the Sbs Exam Success and Creativity Level of 8 Grade Private School Students
The goal of the research is to investigate the relationship between the creative thinking skills and SBS exam success of primary school students. The research sample group is comprised of 60 8th grade students at private schools in Gaziantep in 2009-2010 Educational Year. The methodology of the research is mixed research method. Torrance Creative Thinking Test applied to students in order to collect data about the level of creative thinking skills of the students. The information about the students was obtained from ILSUS Student Registration System. A correlation was utilized to analyze the relationship between the creative thinking sub-dimensions of fluency, flexibility, and originality and SBS success. The findings of the research demonstrate that there is a significant positive relationship between the flexibility aspect of the studentsâ creativity and SBS success on the subjects of Turkish, Math, Science and Social Sciences and also that there is a significant positive relationship between the originality aspect of the studentsâ creativity and SBS exam success on the subjects of Math and Social Sciences. The means of creative thinking skill levels of the students were compared and it was observed that the mean of fluency is the highest and the mean of flexibility is the lowest. The Relationship between English and Math Success & some Variables at Freshman Level
Recent studies show that proficiency or success in a subject might correlate with some other subjects. For example; if a student is good at math, s/he tends to be successful in physics or chemistry. Starting from this point and based on our own observations, an interest about the possible relationship between success in English as a foreign language learning and mathematics emerged. Therefore, the intend of present study was to examine the link between the freshman studentsâ success in foreign language learning (Leng 101 course) and mathematics (Math 151 course) at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Gaziantep in relation with some variables namely; their gender and departments they studied. The results revealed significant relation between Leng 101 and Math 151 final grades (p<0,01) and a significant difference among the departments in terms of success in foreign language (p<0,01). Moreover, an independent samples test revealed a significant difference in English as a foreign language success between genders (p<0,01). The aim of the study is to investigate the contribution of action research to teachersâ professional development. In line with this goal, a group of teachers were asked their opinions. The working group of the study is comprised of six teachers working at a state primary and middle school. The study is an example of âCase Studyâ, one of qualitative research methods. The content analysis technique was utilized in the analysis of the data. Changes in the Beliefs of the Prospective Teachers on Knowledge, Learning and Teaching in a Social Constructivist Teaching Setting Applied
Epistemological beliefs are the individualsâ point of view on what is knowledge, how to accumulate it, defining its boundaries and identifying the criteria. This study aims to investigate whether there is a change in the beliefs of the prospective teachers related to knowledge, learning and teaching in a social constructive teaching setting.The research has been conducted with 119 prospective teachers. This study is a semi-experimental one conducted with pretest and post-test without a control group. Data has been collected with âEpistemological Belief on Learning and Teachingâ scale developed by Ching Sing Chai, Timothy Teo and Chwee Beng Lee. The findings indicated a positive change in the beliefs of the candidates about relative knowledge and a visible decrease in the beliefs about absolute knowledge. Also, learning environment significantly affected the beliefs of the prospective teachers about relative knowledge.
