Re-Imagined Homes: Transnational Asian American Writing in Annie Wang’s The People’s Republic of Desire
This essay proposes that Annie Wang's The People’s Republic of Desire (2006) offers a new home-identity alignment for Asian American subjectivity in the transnational space of the Pacific Rim, an alternative to the predominant cultural nationalist model for home-identity configuration defined within the US nation-state boundaries. It argues that contemporary cosmopolitan life brought about by global capital has created a more flexible, border-defying cultural imaginary across the Pacific for Asian American writing and the making of Asian American identity outside the nation-state, yet its fluidity, by dissolving the traditional bond between home and identity, also signifies Asian Americans' continuous displacement and dividedness between national and transnational imperatives
Exploring the dark matter inelastic frontier with 79.6 days of PandaX-II data
We report here the results of searching for inelastic scattering of dark
matter (initial and final state dark matter particles differ by a small mass
splitting) with nucleon with the first 79.6-day of PandaX-II data (Run 9). We
set the upper limits for the spin independent WIMP-nucleon scattering cross
section up to a mass splitting of 300 keV/c at two benchmark dark matter
masses of 1 and 10 TeV/c.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure
Guidance Law and Neural Control for Hypersonic Missile to Track Targets
Hypersonic technology plays an important role in prompt global strike. Because the flight dynamics of a hypersonic vehicle is nonlinear, uncertain, and highly coupled, the controller design is challenging, especially to design its guidance and control law during the attack of a maneuvering target. In this paper, the sliding mode control (SMC) method is used to develop the guidance law from which the desired flight path angle is derived. With the desired information as control command, the adaptive neural control in discrete time is investigated ingeniously for the longitudinal dynamics of the hypersonic missile. The proposed guidance and control laws are validated by simulation of a hypersonic missile against a maneuvering target. It is demonstrated that the scheme has good robustness and high accuracy to attack a maneuvering target in the presence of external disturbance and missile model uncertainty
Dark Matter Results From 54-Ton-Day Exposure of PandaX-II Experiment
We report a new search of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) using
the combined low background data sets in 2016 and 2017 from the PandaX-II
experiment in China. The latest data set contains a new exposure of 77.1 live
day, with the background reduced to a level of 0.8 evt/kg/day,
improved by a factor of 2.5 in comparison to the previous run in 2016. No
excess events were found above the expected background. With a total exposure
of 5.4 kg day, the most stringent upper limit on spin-independent
WIMP-nucleon cross section was set for a WIMP with mass larger than 100
GeV/c, with the lowest exclusion at 8.6 cm at 40

Low-mass dark matter search results from full exposure of PandaX-I experiment
We report the results of a weakly-interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark
matter search using the full 80.1\;live-day exposure of the first stage of the
PandaX experiment (PandaX-I) located in the China Jin-Ping Underground
Laboratory. The PandaX-I detector has been optimized for detecting low-mass
WIMPs, achieving a photon detection efficiency of 9.6\%. With a fiducial liquid
xenon target mass of 54.0\,kg, no significant excess event were found above the
expected background. A profile likelihood analysis confirms our earlier finding
that the PandaX-I data disfavor all positive low-mass WIMP signals reported in
the literature under standard assumptions. A stringent bound on the low mass
WIMP is set at WIMP mass below 10\,GeV/c, demonstrating that liquid xenon
detectors can be competitive for low-mass WIMP searches.Comment: v3 as accepted by PRD. Minor update in the text in response to

The spatial linkage mechanism: medical level, public health security, and economic climate from 19 OECD EU countries
IntroductionThe global spread of the COVID-19 has brought about global changes, especially in terms of economic growth. Therefore, it has become a global issue to explore the impact of public health security on the economy.MethodsEmploying a dynamic spatial Durbin model, this study analyzes the spatial linkage mechanism of medical level, public health security, and economic climate in 19 countries as well as investigates the relationship between economic climate and COVID-19 by the panel data of 19 OECD European Union countries from March 2020 to September 2022.ResultsResults show that an improvement in the medical level can reduce the negative impact of public health security on the economy. Specifically, there is a significant spatial spillover effect. The degree of economic prosperity hurts the reproduction rate of COVID-19.DiscussionPolicymakers should consider both the severity of the public health security issues and the economic level when developing prevention and control policies. Given this, corresponding suggestions provide theoretical support for formulating policies to reduce the economic impact of public health security issues
