Abstract We present an analysis comparing multi-level signaling to standard NRZ signaling for module-to-module on-board electrical interconnects. To study on-board electrical performance, duobinary and PAM4 I/O models were created and compared to NRZ signaling in behavioral link-level simulations. A great variety of high-density, high-speed on-board module-to-module electrical links were analyzed, and specific interconnect channels were validated experimentally with programmable equalization transceiver chips communicating through a set of fabricated test structures. Link performance was measured with on-chip eye monitoring circuits and an oscilloscope. Simulation results show that NRZ signaling with FFE and DFE equalization offers the best electrical performance
A Gelfand triple approach to Wigner and Husimi representations
The notion of Gelfand triples is applied to interpret mathematically a family of phase-space representations of quantum mechanics interpolating between the Wigner and Husimi representations. Gelfand triples of operators on Hilbert space, and Gelfand triples of functions on phase-space are introduced in order to get isomorphic correspondences between operators and their phase-space representations. The phasespace Gelfand triples are characterized by means of growth conditions on the analytic continuation of the functions. We give integral expressions for the sesquilinear forms belonging to the phase-space Gelfand triples. This provides mathematically rigorous phase-space analogues for quantum mechanical expectation values of bounded operators. 1
A counter-rotating Couette apparatus to study deformation of a sub-millimeter sized particle in shear flow
We describe a new counter-rotating Couette apparatus that has been developed for deformation studies of single sub-millimeter sized particles in shear flow. New features are the adaption to the low viscosities of water-based systems and temperature control of the device. The inner to outer radius ratio of the cylinders used is 0.9785 and the height to width aspect ratio of the gap is 4.0, while the inner radius is 100 mm. Because of the limited particle size a high mechanical accuracy of the Couette geometry is necessary. The swing of the inner cylinder is less than 2 μm and that of the outer cylinder less than 4 μm. We achieved this by carefully choosing the design parameters of the aerostatic bearing and the coupling between cylinder and motor unit. Furthermore, special drive units give a shear rate resolution of 0.018 s−1, while the maximum shear rate is 100 s−1. For a liquid viscosity on the order of 1 mPas the effective maximum shear rate is 30 s−1. We have shown that deformations as small as (L−B)/(L+B) ≈ 0.01 of giant bilayer vesicles (typical radius 10 μm) with length L and width B can be observed with our device
The role of functional health literacy in long-term treatment outcomes in psychosocial care for adolescents
Although among adolescents with psychosocial problems low health literacy may increase the risk of poor treatment outcomes, the contributing mechanisms within treatment remain unclear. A better understanding of these mechanisms could contribute to improved treatment processes and outcomes. This study aims to examine the relationship between functional health literacy, treatment processes (treatment adherence, learning processes), and treatment outcome (level of psychosocial problems) in adolescents in psychosocial care. We used data from a prospective cohort study among adolescents aged 12-18 (N = 390), collected in four successive measurements: at entry into care, and 3, 12, and 24 months thereafter. We used a mixed effect model to investigate the association between level of functional health literacy (adequate vs. inadequate) and treatment processes (treatment adherence, learning processes) and treatment outcome (level of psychosocial problems). Between adolescents with adequate and inadequate functional health literacy, we found no differences or change over time in adherence or learning processes. The level of psychosocial problems significantly declined over time (β = - 1.70, 95% CI [- 2.72, - 0.69], p = .001) to a similar degree in both groups, though, in all measurements, the level was consistently higher for adolescents with inadequate health literacy. We conclude that health literacy levels did not affect change in treatment processes nor in outcomes of psychosocial treatment. However, the consistently higher level of psychosocial problems among adolescents with inadequate health literacy suggests an unaddressed need in psychosocial care
