On the mean value of the energy for resonant states
In this work we discuss possible definitions of the mean value of the energy
for a resonant (Gamow) state. The mathematical and physical aspects of the
formalism are reviewed. The concept of rigged Hilbert space is used as a
supportive tool in dealing with Gamow-resonances.Comment: 9 page
Origin of three-body resonances
We expose the relation between the properties of the three-body continuum
states and their two-body subsystems. These properties refer to their bound and
virtual states and resonances, all defined as poles of the -matrix. For one
infinitely heavy core and two non-interacting light particles, the complex
energies of the three-body poles are the sum of the two two-body complex
pole-energies. These generic relations are modified by center-of-mass effects
which alone can produce a Borromean system. We show how the three-body states
evolve in He, Li, and Be when the nucleon-nucleon interaction is
continuously switched on. The schematic model is able to reproduce the main
properties in their spectra. Realistic calculations for these nuclei are shown
in detail for comparison. The implications of a core with non-zero spin are
investigated and illustrated for Ne (O+p+p). Dimensionless units
allow predictions for systems of different scales.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure
Substance abusers' personality disorders and staff members' emotional reactions
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Previous research has indicated that aggressive behaviour and DSM-IV cluster B personality disorders (PD) may be associated with professionals' emotional reactions to clients, and that cluster C PD may be associated with positive emotional reactions.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Staff members recruited from workshops completed a self-report inventory of emotional reactions to patients, the Feeling Word Checklist-58, and substance abusers completed a self-report of DSM-IV personality disorder, the DSM-IV and ICD-10 Personality Disorder Questionnaire. Correlational analysis and multiple regression analysis was used to assess the associations between personality disorders and emotional reations.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Cluster B disorder features were associated with feeling distance to patients, and cluster C disorder features were associated with feeling helpful towards patients. Cluster A disorders had no significant impact on emotional reactions.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The findings confirm clinical experiences that personality disorder features in patients with substance abuse have an impact on staff members reactions to them. These reactions should be considered in supervision of staff, and in treatment models for patients with co-morbid personality disorders and substance abuse.</p
Gamow Shell Model Description of Weakly Bound Nuclei and Unbound Nuclear States
We present the study of weakly bound, neutron-rich nuclei using the nuclear
shell model employing the complex Berggren ensemble representing the bound
single-particle states, unbound Gamow states, and the non-resonant continuum.
In the proposed Gamow Shell Model, the Hamiltonian consists of a one-body
finite depth (Woods-Saxon) potential and a residual two-body interaction. We
discuss the basic ingredients of the Gamow Shell Model. The formalism is
illustrated by calculations involving {\it several} valence neutrons outside

Standardised assessment of personality – a study of validity and reliability in substance abusers
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Brief screening instruments for co-morbid personality disorders could potentially have great value in substance abuse treatment settings.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We assessed the psychometric properties of the 8-item Standardised Assessment of Personality – Abbreviated Scale (SAPAS) in a sample of 58 methadone maintenance patients.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Internal consistency was modest, but similar to the original value (alpha = 0.62), and test-retest correlation at four months follow-up was moderately encouraging for a short instrument such as this (n = 31, test retest intraclass correlation = 0.58), and change at the mean level was minimal, but marginally significant (from an average of 3.3 to 3.8, p = 0.06). Analyses of nurse ratings of patients' behaviour at the clinic showed that SAPAS was significantly correlated with nurse ratings of externalizing behaviour (r = 0.42, p = 0.001), and Global Assessment of Functioning (r = -0.36, p = 0.006), but unrelated to intoxication (r = 0.02, NS), or withdrawal (r = 0.20, NS).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>There is evidence that the SAPAS is a modestly valid and relatively reliable brief screening measure of personality disorders in patients with ongoing substance abuse undergoing methadone maintenance. It can be used in situations where limited resources are available, and researchers or others wish to get an impression of the degree of personality pathology in a clinical population, as well as for screening purposes.</p
Protocol: Personality assessment as a support for referral and case-work in treatment for substance use disorders (PASRC-study)
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Assessment of co-morbid personality disorders in substance use disorders may lead to important insights concerning individual patients. However, little is known about the potential value of routine personality disorder assessment in a clinical context.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Patients are adults with past-year substance dependence seeking treatment at a centralized intake unit for substance abusers in the City of Copenhagen. A randomized controlled trial of assessment of personality disorders and individual feedback vs. a general life situation interview. Patients are followed at 3 and 6 months post-treatment</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>If routine personality assessment improves outcomes of substance abuse treatment, the clinical implication is to increase the use of personality disorder assessment in substance abuse treatment settings.</p> <p>Trial registration</p> <p>Current controlled trials ISRCTN39851689</p
An above-barrier narrow resonance in <sup>15</sup>F
Intense and purified radioactive beam of post-accelerated O was used
to study the low-lying states in the unbound F nucleus. Exploiting
resonant elastic scattering in inverse kinematics with a thick target, the
second excited state, a resonance at E=4.757(6)(10)~MeV with a width of
=36(5)(14)~keV was measured for the first time with high precision. The
structure of this narrow above-barrier state in a nucleus located two neutrons
beyond the proton drip line was investigated using the Gamow Shell Model in the
coupled channel representation with a C core and three valence protons.
It is found that it is an almost pure wave function of two quasi-bound protons

Real- and Complex-Energy Non-conserving Particle Number Pairing Solution
Many-body open quantum systems are characterized by the correlations between bound and scattering states. In contrast to a closed system (i.e., a very well bound many-body system), the continuous part of the energy spectrum has to be considered explicitly due to the proximity of the Fermi level to the continuums threshold. In this work we show how to introduce these correlations through the continuum single-particle level density (CSPLD) in the pairing framework. By isolating the resonances of the system using an analytic continuation, we arrive at the Berggren (complex-energy) representation of the pairing solutionFil: Id Betan, Rodolfo Mohamed.
