We discuss the possibility that elevated levels of thymidylate synthase noted in some human malignancies may contribute to tumor progression and may also reflect increased levels of its transcriptional activator E2F-1

    Reducing parental anxiety using a family based intervention for youth mental health : a randomized controlled trial

    This paper presents findings on parent anxiety and attachment relationship style from the Deakin Family Options (DFO) pilot study, a randomized controlled pilot study comparing a family-based treatment (BEST Plus), versus a youth only treatment (CBT) versus a group who received both of these treatments (COMBINED). Eligible participants were families with a young person (aged 12 - 25 years) with a high prevalence mental health problem. Youth from participating families scored in the clinical or subclinical range for depression, anxiety and/or substance misuse symptoms on standardized measures during the initial assessment. The collected sample was drawn from regional and urban centers in Victoria, Australia and allocated to treatment condition using a simple randomization procedure (parallel design). It was hypothesized that families receiving the BEST Plus would experience greater reductions in youth and parent mental health symptoms, and improved parent-child relationships, compared with those in the CBT condition. This paper describes and discusses changes in parent anxiety and parent attachment, according to whether the parent participated in a treatment (BEST Plus) or did not (NONBEST Plus). Participants were blind to the study hypotheses. In total 71 parent participants returned pre data and were allocated to a treatment group. In this paper, data from parent participants who completed pre and post measures (n = 48) and pre, post, and 6-month follow-up measures (n = 28) on anxiety and attachment were analyzed by group (BEST Plus versus NONBEST Plus). The results of this study suggest that parent anxiety decreased significantly more following parent involvement in a group treatment, than for parents that did not receive treatment. Unexpectedly, avoidant attachment increased in the no treatment group, but remained relatively stable following the BEST Plus group. There were no significant findings in relation to compulsive traits and anxious attachment. These findings are discussed in light of the study limitations.<br /

    Transactions and updates in deductive databases

    n this paper we develop a new approach providing a smooth integration of extensional updates and declarative query language for deductive databases. The approach is based on a declarative speci cation of updates in rule bodies. Updates are not executed as soon are evaluated. Instead, they are collectedand then applied to the database when the query evaluation is completed. We call this approach non-immediate update semantics. We provide a top down and equivalent bottom-up semantics which re ect the corresponding computation models. We also package set of updates into transactions and we provide a formal semantics for transactions. Then, in order to handle complex transactions, we extend the transaction language with control constructors still perserving formal semantics and semantics equivalence

    Polypyrrole is a frequently studied conducting polymer due to its application in sensing and catalysis.1 Polypyrrole is considered among the most promising conductive polymers due to its stability and ease of conversion between conducting and insulating forms.2 Different chemical and electrochemical methods are generally used in the synthesis of polypyrrole.2 Despite many interesting applications, the use of polypyrrole is limited because of difficulty in processing it. Several approaches have been explored to improve the ability to process polypyrrole, including the use of emulsion, inverse emulsion, steric stabilizer, and microemulsion methods.1 Several reports have also been published on the synthesis of polypyrrole-metal nanocomposites.3 the sensing and catalytic abilities of the polypyrrole composites are significantly better than those for polymer alone.4 as most of the important properties of the noble metals depend on their dispersion and surface properties in the surrounding medium, it is important to obtain evenly distributed Au nanoparticles in conducting polymer matrix. Here we report a simple and convenient procedure for the synthesis of polypyrrole and gold composites, where both polymer and metal morphologies can be controlled in a single set-up

    Dependencies and Separation of Duty Constraints in GTRBAC

    A Generalized Temporal Role Based Access Control (GTRBAC) model that captures an exhaustive set of temporal constraint needs for access control has recently been proposed. GTRBAC’s language constructs allow one to specify various temporal constraints on role, user-role assignments and role-permission assignments. In this paper, we identify various time-constrained cardinality, control flow dependency and separation of duty constraints (SoDs). Such constraints allow specification of dynamically changing access control requirements that are typical in today’s large systems. In addition to allowing specification of time, the constraints introduced here also allow expressing access control policies at a finer granularity. The inclusion of control flow dependency constraints allows defining much stricter dependency requirements that are typical in workflow types of applications
