Untersuchung und Optimierung von Verfahren zur Herstellung und Charakterisierung von homogenen und heterogenen Fullerenen Schlussbericht
1. State of the art: Using the electric arc method (Kraetschmer) it is possible to produce macroscopic amounts of fullerenes (C_6_0). 2. Motivation: A method suitable for the production of macroscopic amounts of higher fullerenes has not yet been developed. Mass spectra of fullerene samples produced by laser evaporation of graphite show a large number of higher as well as endohedral fullerenes. 3. Method: An apparatus for the production of fullerenes by laser evaporation of graphite has been developed. Basic physical properties of fullerenes have been investigated using fragmentation mass spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). 4. Results: Investigation of the suitability of different laser types for the laser-assisted production of fullerenes; determination of optimum parameters for the production of fullerenes by laser evaporation; production of fullerenes by means of laser evaporation; optimization of the photoionization time-of flight mass spectroscopy for the measurement of fragmentation engergies of fullerenes; investigation of physical properties of fluorinated fullerenes; investigation of physical properties of fluorinated fullerenes; information about fundamental electronic properties of C_6_0; detection of small amounts of higher fullerenes in coalescence experiments. 5. Possible applications: It could be shown that the laser evaporation method is more efficient for the production of higher fullerenes than the conventional arc method. Leistungsgrenzen der Phasenkonjugation fuer Hochleistungs-Festkoerperlaser Abschlussbericht
In the frame of the present project oscillator and oscillator-amplifier systems with phase conjugating SBS (stimulated Brillouin scattering)-mirrors for better beam quality and higher output energy have been optimized. In designing Nd-solid state master oscillator double pass amplifier setups with almost diffraction limited beam quality, with 102 W average output power the world wide leading values could be reached. The developed systems with single laser rods instead of SLABs and the necessary additional devices for beam shaping and multipasses are much cheaper for the same performance than international competitors. The new systems with almost diffraction limited beam quality produced by the compensation of phase distortions via phase conjugating SBS-mirros allow for new applications as a consequence of their higher brightness compared to todays available commercial systems. Festkoerperlaser mit phasenkonjugierenden Spiegeln. Anlage zum Forschungsbericht - Fiberbuendel-Laser Abschlussbericht
1. Goals of the project - fiber-bundle-laser (FBL) with average power of 100 W, pulse energy 1-2 J, and simultaneous emission at two wavelengths - have been reached with optimization of the fiber material, the number of fibers, resonator and technology of the FBL. 2. Cultivation of highly doped multi component glasses for fiber laser applications. 3. Melting of the bundle end-sections by the 'glass-solder' method. 4. Additional results: passive Q-switching of the FBL, development of adapted micro-mirror arrays. 5. The possibility of scaling could be demonstrated and necessary conditions could be defined for the improvement of the beam quality (promising results with phase conjugation) and the total efficiency.
