THz generation using a reflective stair-step echelon
We present a novel method for THz generation in lithium niobate using a
reflective stair-step echelon structure. The echelon produces a discretely
tilted pulse front with less angular dispersion compared to a high
groove-density grating. The THz output was characterized using both a 1-lens
and 3-lens imaging system to set the tilt angle at room and cryogenic
temperatures. Using broadband 800 nm pulses with a pulse energy of 0.95 mJ and
a pulse duration of 70 fs (24 nm FWHM bandwidth, 39 fs transform limited
width), we produced THz pulses with field strengths as high as 500 kV/cm and
pulse energies as high as 3.1 J. The highest conversion efficiency we
obtained was 0.33%. In addition, we find that the echelon is easily implemented
into an experimental setup for quick alignment and optimization.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figure
The California Planet Survey IV: A Planet Orbiting the Giant Star HD 145934 and Updates to Seven Systems with Long-Period Planets
We present an update to seven stars with long-period planets or planetary
candidates using new and archival radial velocities from Keck-HIRES and
literature velocities from other telescopes. Our updated analysis better
constrains orbital parameters for these planets, four of which are known
multi-planet systems. HD 24040 b and HD 183263 c are super-Jupiters with
circular orbits and periods longer than 8 yr. We present a previously unseen
linear trend in the residuals of HD 66428 indicative on an additional planetary
companion. We confirm that GJ 849 is a multi-planet system and find a good
orbital solution for the c component: it is a planet in a 15 yr
orbit (the longest known for a planet orbiting an M dwarf). We update the HD
74156 double-planet system. We also announce the detection of HD 145934 b, a planet in a 7.5 yr orbit around a giant star. Two of our stars, HD
187123 and HD 217107, at present host the only known examples of systems
comprising a hot Jupiter and a planet with a well constrained period yr,
and with no evidence of giant planets in between. Our enlargement and
improvement of long-period planet parameters will aid future analysis of

The 55 Cancri Planetary System: Fully Self-Consistent N-body Constraints and a Dynamical Analysis
We present an updated study of the planets known to orbit 55 Cancri A using
1,418 high-precision radial velocity observations from four observatories
(Lick, Keck, Hobby-Eberly Telescope, Harlan J. Smith Telescope) and transit
time/durations for the inner-most planet, 55 Cancri "e" (Winn et al. 2011). We
provide the first posterior sample for the masses and orbital parameters based
on self-consistent n-body orbital solutions for the 55 Cancri planets, all of
which are dynamically stable (for at least years). We apply a GPU
version of Radial velocity Using N-body Differential evolution Markov Chain
Monte Carlo (RUN DMC; B. Nelson et al. 2014) to perform a Bayesian analysis of
the radial velocity and transit observations. Each of the planets in this
remarkable system has unique characteristics. Our investigation of high-cadence
radial velocities and priors based on space-based photometry yields an updated
mass estimate for planet "e" ( M), which affects its
density ( g cm) and inferred bulk composition.
Dynamical stability dictates that the orbital plane of planet "e" must be
aligned to within of the orbital plane of the outer planets (which we
assume to be coplanar). The mutual interactions between the planets "b" and "c"
may develop an apsidal lock about . We find 36-45% of all our model
systems librate about the anti-aligned configuration with an amplitude of
. Other cases showed short-term perturbations in the
libration of , circulation, and nodding, but we find the
planets are not in a 3:1 mean-motion resonance. A revised orbital period and
eccentricity for planet "d" pushes it further toward the closest known Jupiter

Academic Achievement of K-12 Students With Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

served in public school settings and established the extent to which students with emotional/behavioral
disorders (E/BD) experience academic achievement deficits with attention to age and gender
differences. In addition, this study examined particular types of problem behaviors related to academic
achievement. Results indicate that stuAents with E/BD showed large academic achievement
deficits across all of the content areas, and the deficits appeared to be stable or worsen in the case of
mathematics across age. There appeared to be no gender differences. Additionally, externalizing behaviors
were related to reading, mathematics, and written language achievement; whereas, internalizing
ones were not
Human Adipose Derived Stromal Cells Heal Critical Size Mouse Calvarial Defects
Human adipose-derived stromal cells (hASCs) represent a multipotent cell stromal cell type with proven capacity to differentiate along an osteogenic lineage. This suggests that they may be used to heal defects of the craniofacial or appendicular skeleton. We sought to substantiate the use of undifferentiated hASCs in the regeneration of a non-healing mouse skeletal defect..Human ASCs ossify critical sized mouse calvarial defects without the need for pre-differentiation. Recombinant differentiation factors such as BMP-2 may be used to supplement hASC mediated repair. Interestingly, ASC presence gradually dissipates from the calvarial defect site. This study supports the potential translation for ASC use in the treatment of human skeletal defects
Characterizing the gut microbiome in trauma: significant changes in microbial diversity occur early after severe injury.
Background:Recent studies have demonstrated the vital influence of commensal microbial communities on human health. The central role of the gut in the response to injury is well described; however, no prior studies have used culture-independent profiling techniques to characterize the gut microbiome after severe trauma. We hypothesized that in critically injured patients, the gut microbiome would undergo significant compositional changes in the first 72 hours after injury. Methods:Trauma stool samples were prospectively collected via digital rectal examination at the time of presentation (0 hour). Patients admitted to the intensive care unit (n=12) had additional stool samples collected at 24 hours and/or 72 hours. Uninjured patients served as controls (n=10). DNA was extracted from stool samples and 16S rRNA-targeted PCR amplification was performed; amplicons were sequenced and binned into operational taxonomic units (OTUs; 97% sequence similarity). Diversity was analyzed using principle coordinates analyses, and negative binomial regression was used to determine significantly enriched OTUs. Results:Critically injured patients had a median Injury Severity Score of 27 and suffered polytrauma. At baseline (0 hour), there were no detectable differences in gut microbial community diversity between injured and uninjured patients. Injured patients developed changes in gut microbiome composition within 72 hours, characterized by significant alterations in phylogenetic composition and taxon relative abundance. Members of the bacterial orders Bacteroidales, Fusobacteriales and Verrucomicrobiales were depleted during 72 hours, whereas Clostridiales and Enterococcus members enriched significantly. Discussion:In this initial study of the gut microbiome after trauma, we demonstrate that significant changes in phylogenetic composition and relative abundance occur in the first 72 hours after injury. This rapid change in intestinal microbiota represents a critical phenomenon that may influence outcomes after severe trauma. A better understanding of the nature of these postinjury changes may lead to the ability to intervene in otherwise pathological clinical trajectories. Level of evidence:III. Current Outlook for 99mTc Distribution Based on Electron Accelerator Production
In 1999 a practical example illustrating the economical and reliable production of 99mTc from an accelerator was developed. It included the realistic costs involved in establishing and operating the accelerator facility and the distribution of the 99mTc to regions in Florida. However, the technology was never commercialized. Recent political and economic developments prompted this second look at accelerator produced 99mTc. The practicality of this system in 2007 dollars was established to account for inflation and current demand. The same distribution model and production schedule from the Global ‘99 study were used. Numbers were found using current rates and costs where possible and indexed estimations when necessary. Though several of the costs increased significantly and the sale price remains at approximately 35¢/mCi, the unit cost of 99mTc throughput only increased from 12.8¢/mCi to 15.0¢/mCi or approximately 17.2% from 1999 to 2007 thus continuing to be economically viable. This study provides ground work for creating business development models at additional locations within the U.S
Rapid assessment of psychological and epidemiological correlates of COVID-19 concern, financial strain, and health-related behavior change in a large online sample
16 pagesCOVID-19 emerged in November 2019 leading to a global pandemic that has not only resulted in widespread medical complications and loss of life, but has also impacted global economies and transformed daily life. The current rapid response study in a convenience online sample quickly recruited 2,065 participants across the United States, Canada, and Europe in late March and early April 2020. Cross-sectional findings indicated elevated anxiety and depressive symptoms compared to historical norms, which were positively associated with COVID-19 concern more strongly than epidemiological data signifying risk (e.g., world and country confirmed cases). Employment loss was positively associated with greater depressive symptoms and COVID-19 concern, and depressive symptoms and COVID-19 concern were significantly associated with more stringent self-quarantine behavior. The rapid collection of data during the early phase of this pandemic is limited by under-representation of non-White and middle age and older adults. Nevertheless, these findings have implications for interventions to slow the spread of COVID-19 infection.This research was supported by funding from Ann Swindells Endowment to the University of Oregon.
