Pour remédier à cela, nous présentons ici le mélange de lois de Student multivariées à échelles multiples, que nous sommes en train d'incorporer au sein d'un paquet R. Ces lois peuvent gérer des queues de lourdeurs différentes selon les directions alors que les lois gaussiennes et les lois de Student multivariées standards sont contraintes à être symétriques

Alarm Pheromone in a Gregarious Poduromorph Collembolan (Collembola: Hypogastruridae)
We report an alarm pheromone in the gregarious poduromorph collembolan, Hypogastrura pannosa. Cuticular rupture results in emission of a rapidly vaporizing hexane-soluble material with an active space diameter of ca. 1 cm. Conspecifics encountering the vapor front respond with stereotypic aversion and dispersal behaviors. This is the first report on the presence of an alarm pheromone in the order Collembola
Neutral competition of stem cells is skewed by proliferative changes downstream of Hh and Hpo.
Neutral competition, an emerging feature of stem cell homeostasis, posits that individual stem cells can be lost and replaced by their neighbors stochastically, resulting in chance dominance of a clone at the niche. A single stem cell with an oncogenic mutation could bias this process and clonally spread the mutation throughout the stem cell pool. The Drosophila testis provides an ideal system for testing this model. The niche supports two stem cell populations that compete for niche occupancy. Here, we show that cyst stem cells (CySCs) conform to the paradigm of neutral competition and that clonal deregulation of either the Hedgehog (Hh) or Hippo (Hpo) pathway allows a single CySC to colonize the niche. We find that the driving force behind such behavior is accelerated proliferation. Our results demonstrate that a single stem cell colonizes its niche through oncogenic mutation by co-opting an underlying homeostatic process.This is the final version. A deterministic detector for vector vortex states
Encoding information in high-dimensional degrees of freedom of photons has led to new avenues in various quantum protocols such as communication and information processing. Yet to fully benefit from the increase in dimension requires a deterministic detection system, e.g., to reduce dimension dependent photon loss in quantum key distribution. Recently, there has been a growing interest in using vector vortex modes, spatial modes of light with entangled degrees of freedom, as a basis for encoding information. However, there is at present no method to detect these non-separable states in a deterministic manner, negating the benefit of the larger state space. Here we present a method to deterministically detect single photon states in a four dimensional space spanned by vector vortex modes with entangled polarisation and orbital angular momentum degrees of freedom. We demonstrate our detection system with vector vortex modes from the |[Formula: see text]| = 1 and |[Formula: see text]| = 10 subspaces using classical and weak coherent states and find excellent detection fidelities for both pure and superposition vector states. This work opens the possibility to increase the dimensionality of the state-space used for encoding information while maintaining deterministic detection and will be invaluable for long distance classical and quantum communication
A rapid extraction method for glycogen from formalin-fixed liver
Liver glycogen, a highly branched polymer, acts as our blood-glucose buffer. While past structural studies have extracted glycogen from fresh or frozen tissue using a cold-water; sucrose-gradient centrifugation technique, a method for the extraction of glycogen from formalin-fixed liver would allow the analysis of glycogen from human tissues that are routinely collected in pathology laboratories. In this study, both sucrose-gradient and formalin-fixed extraction techniques were carried out on piglet livers, with the yields, purities and size distributions (using size exclusion chromatography) compared. The formalin extraction technique, when combined with a protease treatment, resulted in higher yields (but lower purities) of glycogen with size distributions similar to the sucrose-gradient centrifugation technique. This formalin extraction procedure was also significantly faster, allowing glycogen extraction throughput to increase by an order of magnitude. Both extraction techniques were compatible with mass spectrometry proteomics, with analysis showing the two techniques were highly complementary. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved
