The Two-Boson-Exchange Correction to Parity-Violating Elastic Electron-Proton Scattering
We calculate the two-boson-exchange (TBE) corrections to the parity-violating
asymmetry of the elastic electron-proton scattering in a simple hadronic model
including the nucleon and the intermediate states. We find that
contribution is, in general, comparable with the
nucleon contribution and the current experimental measurements of
strange-quark effects in the proton neutral weak current. The total TBE
corrections to the current extracted values of
in recent experiments are found to lie in the

Evidence for virtual Compton scattering from the proton
In virtual Compton scattering an electron is scattered off a nucleon such that the nucleon emits a photon. We show that these events can be selected experimentally, and present the first evidence for virtual Compton scattering from the proton in data obtained at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The angular and energy dependence of the data is well described by a calculation that includes the coherent sum of electron and proton radiation
Momentum Transfer Dependence of Nuclear Transparency from the Quasielastic ^(12)C(e, e'p) Reaction
The cross section for quasielastic ^(12)C(e,e’p) scattering has been measured at momentum transfer Q^2=1, 3, 5, and 6.8 (GeV/c)^2. The results are consistent with scattering from a single nucleon as the dominant process. The nuclear transparency is obtained and compared with theoretical calculations that incorporate color transparency effects. No significant rise of the transparency with Q^2 is observed
Measurement of the Proton's Neutral Weak Magnetic Form Factor
We report the first measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic
electron scattering from the proton. The asymmetry depends on the neutral weak
magnetic form factor of the proton which contains new information on the
contribution of strange quark-antiquark pairs to the magnetic moment of the
proton. We obtain the value n.m. at

Electromagnetic radiative corrections in parity-violating electron-proton scattering
QED radiative corrections have been calculated for leptonic and hadronic
variables in parity-violating elastic ep scattering. For the first time, the
calculation of the asymmetry in the elastic radiative tail is performed without
the peaking-approximation assumption in hadronic variables configuration. A
comparison with the PV-A4 data validates our approach. This method has been
also used to evaluate the radiative corrections to the parity-violating
asymmetry measured in the G0 experiment. The results obtained are here

Measurement of the vector analyzing power in elastic electron-proton scattering as a probe of double photon exchange amplitudes
We report the first measurement of the vector analyzing power in inclusive
transversely polarized elastic electron-proton scattering at Q^2 = 0.1
(GeV/c)^2 and large scattering angles. This quantity should vanish in the
single virtual photon exchange, plane wave impulse approximation for this
reaction, and can therefore provide information on double photon exchange
amplitudes for electromagnetic interactions with hadronic systems. We find a
non-zero value of A=-15.4+/-5.4 ppm. No calculations of this observable for
nuclei other than spin 0 have been carried out in these kinematics, and the
calculation using the spin orbit interaction from a charged point nucleus of

Disability in people affected by leprosy: the role of impairment, activity, social participation, stigma and discrimination
Background: Leprosy-related disability is a challenge to public health, and social and rehabilitation services in endemic countries. Disability is more than a mere physical dysfunction, and includes activity limitations, stigma, discrimination, and social participation restrictions. We assessed the extent of disability and its determinants among persons with leprosy-related disabilities after release from multi drug treatment. Methods: We conducted a survey on disability among persons affected by leprosy in Indonesia, using a Rapid Disability Appraisal toolkit based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. The toolkit included the Screening of Activity Limitation and Safety Awareness (SALSA) scale, Participation Scale, Jacoby Stigma Scale (anticipated stigma), Explanatory Model Interview Catalogue (EMIC) stigma scale and Discrimination assessment. Community members were interviewed using a community version of the stigma scale. Multivariate linear regression was done to identify factors associated with social participation. Results: Overall 1,358 persons with leprosy-related disability (PLD) and 931 community members were included. Seventy-seven percent of PLD had physical impairments. Impairment status deteriorated significantly after release from treatment (from 59% to 77%). Around 60% of people reported activity limitations and participation restrictions and 36% anticipated stigma. As for participation restrictions and stigma, shame, problems related to marriage and difficulties in employment were the most frequently reported problems. Major determinants of participation were severity of impairment and level of education, activity and stigma. Reported severity of community stigma correlated with severity of participation restrictions in the same districts. Discussion: The majority of respondents reported problems in all components of disability. The reported physical impairment after release from treatment justifies ongoing monitoring to facilitate early prevention. Stigma was a major determinant of social participation, and therefore disability. Stigma reduction activities and socio-economic rehabilitation are urgently needed in addition to strategies to reduce the development of further physical impairment after release from treatment
The Strange Quark Contribution to the Proton's Magnetic Moment
We report a new determination of the strange quark contribution to the
proton's magnetic form factor at a four-momentum transfer Q2 = 0.1 (GeV/c)^2
from parity-violating e-p elastic scattering. The result uses a revised
analysis of data from the SAMPLE experiment which was carried out at the
MIT-Bates Laboratory. The data are combined with a calculation of the proton's
axial form factor GAe to determine the strange form factor GMs(Q2=0.1)=0.37 +-
0.20 +- 0.26 +- 0.07. The extrapolation of GMs to its Q2=0 limit and comparison

Precision Measurement of the Radiative Decay of the Free Neutron
The standard model predicts that, in addition to a proton, an electron, and
an antineutrino, a continuous spectrum of photons is emitted in the
decay of the free neutron. We report on the RDK II experiment which measured
the photon spectrum using two different detector arrays. An annular array of
bismuth germanium oxide scintillators detected photons from 14 to 782~keV. The
spectral shape was consistent with theory, and we determined a branching ratio
of 0.00335 0.00005 [stat] 0.00015 [syst]. A second detector array
of large area avalanche photodiodes directly detected photons from 0.4 to
14~keV. For this array, the spectral shape was consistent with theory, and the
branching ratio was determined to be 0.00582 0.00023 [stat] 0.00062
[syst]. We report the first precision test of the shape of the photon energy
spectrum from neutron radiative decay and a substantially improved
determination of the branching ratio over a broad range of photon energies
