Suggestion for a new nomenclature to describe the structure of vitreous systems and their related crystalline compounds

Two older systems of nomenclature are no longer useful to describe the vitreous systems contg. B2O3, P2O5, and others. The color centers of the alkali borate glasses are discussed in terms of structural units. The radiation-induced color centers in these glasses are studied by means of optical absorption and E.S.R. The absorption bands of the 2 types of spectra are correlated to the various types of structural units present in these glasses and a no. of models of the color centers are proposed.
