The Aristotelian law of the excluded middle and the language “Pitfalls” of modern scientific pedagogical dialogue

    No full text
Modern dialogue in the semantic context of educational sciences plays an extremely important role as a tool for making science-based decisions as a means of assessing the efficiency of innovations proposed by various authors. However, the practice of modern scientific discussions in pedagogy reveals a lot of problems. Analysis of the research topic literature shows that the core of this problem is the failure to observe the rules of logically correct discourse by the dialogue participants. In the pedagogical dialogues, in particular, there is a simplified application of the logical law of the excluded middle introduced by Aristotle, which does not reflect the rich assortment of the educational field. It has a solid methodological basis in mathematics, in the humanities though (and in pedagogy, in particular), it is often used to analyze phenomena, objects, and scientific facts that go beyond the area of its adequate applicability. It is often used: A) for vague classification forms; b) for insufficiently and accurately defined objects; c) for pairs of events that are not opposite (in terms of probability theory) and mutually exclusive. It results in dialogues participants: A) solving the problems of choosing conceptual foundations and practical decisions for implementation in education incorrectly; b) coming to rigid, rigorous conclusions; c) unjustifiably abandoning many educational traditions, replacing them with insufficiently verified innovations. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the participants in pedagogical dialogues lack mastery of stylistic resources, the use of which allows the inceptors of pedagogical ideas to achieve an adequate understanding of their inferences and conclusions made by other participants. These circumstances, supported by the provisions of the European researchers of education, determine the relevance of the chosen topic. The purpose of this article is: A) to find ways to conduct a logically correct pedagogical dialogue that actively uses the Aristotelian law of the excluded middle (both in a constructive format and in terms of prohibition criteria); b) to find stylistic resources of such a dialogue, combining the scientific rigor of the humanitarian logical form and stylistic aesthetic appeal. The results of the conducted research are the conclusions that an effective pedagogical dialogue using the law of the excluded middle is conditioned by: A) replacement of dichotomous, rigid forms in the logic “either-or” with a concomitant format of combination of “both the one and the other at the same time; but neither one nor the other separately”; b) appropriate stylistic tools, including: Stylistic gradation, metaphor, oxymoron, and emphatic transposition. As negativity that must be overcome in every possible way, there are the “traps” of pedagogical dialogues that require constructive and prohibiting formats of the excluded middle principle: A) incorrect “play” on a high degree of uncertainty of the original defended premise; b) deliberate scientifically dishonest methods of substantiating their own conclusions, forcing opponents to recognize the correctness and validity of the dichotomous form applied to the phenomena to which it cannot be applied. © 2022, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. Developing the informational and digital environment of a university: Problem analysis and assessment

    No full text
The research objective is to reveal and analyze the problems in developing the informational environment of a university. The authors applied theoretical and empirical methods, such as observation, polling, composing a Likert scale, calculation of Spearman ranking correlation coefficients, tabular and diagram techniques of data visualization, etc., which enabled to achieve the set goal. The score method based on Likert scale enabled to reveal the problem aspects of forming the informational and digital environment of a university. Also, these techniques enabled to quantitatively assess each problem, assess their significance and reveal the degree of each factor's relation to each problem of using the information and communication technologies at a university. University professors were polled about using innovative information technologies in order to both enhance the education efficiency and apply new pedagogical concepts and techniques. The poll revealed the problem aspects impeding the development of the informational environment. The research results are presented as a series of diagrams, reliably characterizing the issues which the university professors face when implementing the educational process. Besides, a number of indicators were calculated to determine the correlation coefficients, which enabled to quantitatively assess the degree of correlation between the two series of the compared quantitative indicators. The research revealed the factors impeding the development of the informational environment of a university. Awareness of these factors by the university administration and teaching staff would allow overcoming them, with a view of increasing the quality of educational services. The authors are making a substantiated conclusion that, despite certain difficulties, the informational technologies integrated into the educational process comply with the modern requirements of the society and enhance the competencies of both the students and professors participating in the educational process. © 2019 by the authors

© 2020, Anadolu University, Faculty of Communication Sciences. All rights reserved. The article aims to study the practices of students’ use of services in the conditions of digitalization. The leading methods for the study of this problem are the methods of questioning and testing, allowing to make a qualitative analysis of student consumption practices in the conditions of digitization of services. These methods allowed revealing the peculiarities of online consumption practices by students. The authors found that the majority of students who are not actively using online services, to some extent had experience using online services, but almost every tenth of them had negative result. It is established that students are distrustful of new methods to obtain services, especially when it comes to any operations related to money. It is shown that students who do not practice online services have a feeling that the provided online services are of poor quality, and informants are ready to experience some discomfort in exchange for the usual, guaranteed and high quality, in their opinion, service. In addition, students who are not actively using online services note that it is not easy for them to adapt to new technologically advanced things, but the rest of the students believe that they can adapt to innovations, but the way of providing services that is now perceived as traditional one is the most acceptable for them. It is established that the leader in the use of online services is a taxi. This service is used by all students to some extent, followed by the service of food delivery and only then online banking, online shopping and public services. The novelty and originality of the study lies in the fact that the features of consumption practices among students actively practicing online services and avoiding them are revealed. It is established that students who have little recourse to online services are wary of modern services, which is based either on the previous negative experience of use, or on the unsatisfactory experience of friends, believe that those techniques and applications that are now on the market are not optimal for them and the usual methods of obtaining services for them remain more comfortable and familiar, even though more time spent on obtaining a particular service. The practical significance lies in the fact that the data obtained in the work can be used in social psychology, age psychology, labor psychology, management, sociology, as well as for further theoretical development of this issue
