Yang-Lee and Fisher Zeros of Multisite Interaction Ising Models on the Cayley-type Lattices
A general analytical formula for recurrence relations of multisite
interaction Ising models in an external magnetic field on the Cayley-type
lattices is derived. Using the theory of complex analytical dynamics on the
Riemann sphere, a numerical algorithm to obtain Yang-Lee and Fisher zeros of
the models is developed. It is shown that the sets of Yang-Lee and Fisher zeros
are almost always fractals, that could be associated with Mandelbrot-like sets

Scaling laws for the 2d 8-state Potts model with Fixed Boundary Conditions
We study the effects of frozen boundaries in a Monte Carlo simulation near a
first order phase transition. Recent theoretical analysis of the dynamics of
first order phase transitions has enabled to state the scaling laws governing
the critical regime of the transition. We check these new scaling laws
performing a Monte Carlo simulation of the 2d, 8-state spin Potts model. In
particular, our results support a pseudo-critical beta finite-size scaling of
the form beta(infinity) + a/L + b/L^2, instead of beta(infinity) + c/L^d +
d/L^{2d}. Moreover, our value for the latent heat is 0.294(11), which does not
coincide with the latent heat analytically derived for the same model if
periodic boundary conditions are assumed, which is 0.486358...Comment: 10 pages, 3 postscript figure
Transfer Matrices and Partition-Function Zeros for Antiferromagnetic Potts Models. V. Further Results for the Square-Lattice Chromatic Polynomial
We derive some new structural results for the transfer matrix of
square-lattice Potts models with free and cylindrical boundary conditions. In
particular, we obtain explicit closed-form expressions for the dominant (at
large |q|) diagonal entry in the transfer matrix, for arbitrary widths m, as
the solution of a special one-dimensional polymer model. We also obtain the
large-q expansion of the bulk and surface (resp. corner) free energies for the
zero-temperature antiferromagnet (= chromatic polynomial) through order q^{-47}
(resp. q^{-46}). Finally, we compute chromatic roots for strips of widths 9 <=

Glassiness and constrained dynamics of a short-range non-disordered spin model
We study the low temperature dynamics of a two dimensional short-range spin
system with uniform ferromagnetic interactions, which displays glassiness at
low temperatures despite the absence of disorder or frustration. The model has
a dual description in terms of free defects subject to dynamical constraints,
and is an explicit realization of the ``hierarchically constrained dynamics''
scenario for glassy systems. We give a number of exact results for the statics
of the model, and study in detail the dynamical behaviour of one-time and
two-time quantities. We also consider the role played by the configurational
entropy, which can be computed exactly, in the relation between fluctuations

Dynamic Critical Behavior of the Chayes-Machta Algorithm for the Random-Cluster Model. I. Two Dimensions
We study, via Monte Carlo simulation, the dynamic critical behavior of the
Chayes-Machta dynamics for the Fortuin-Kasteleyn random-cluster model, which
generalizes the Swendsen-Wang dynamics for the q-state Potts ferromagnet to
non-integer q \ge 1. We consider spatial dimension d=2 and 1.25 \le q \le 4 in
steps of 0.25, on lattices up to 1024^2, and obtain estimates for the dynamic
critical exponent z_{CM}. We present evidence that when 1 \le q \lesssim 1.95
the Ossola-Sokal conjecture z_{CM} \ge \beta/\nu is violated, though we also
present plausible fits compatible with this conjecture. We show that the
Li-Sokal bound z_{CM} \ge \alpha/\nu is close to being sharp over the entire
range 1 \le q \le 4, but is probably non-sharp by a power. As a byproduct of
our work, we also obtain evidence concerning the corrections to scaling in

Spanning forests and the q-state Potts model in the limit q \to 0
We study the q-state Potts model with nearest-neighbor coupling v=e^{\beta
J}-1 in the limit q,v \to 0 with the ratio w = v/q held fixed. Combinatorially,
this limit gives rise to the generating polynomial of spanning forests;
physically, it provides information about the Potts-model phase diagram in the
neighborhood of (q,v) = (0,0). We have studied this model on the square and
triangular lattices, using a transfer-matrix approach at both real and complex
values of w. For both lattices, we have computed the symbolic transfer matrices
for cylindrical strips of widths 2 \le L \le 10, as well as the limiting curves
of partition-function zeros in the complex w-plane. For real w, we find two
distinct phases separated by a transition point w=w_0, where w_0 = -1/4 (resp.
w_0 = -0.1753 \pm 0.0002) for the square (resp. triangular) lattice. For w >
w_0 we find a non-critical disordered phase, while for w < w_0 our results are
compatible with a massless Berker-Kadanoff phase with conformal charge c = -2
and leading thermal scaling dimension x_{T,1} = 2 (marginal operator). At w =
w_0 we find a "first-order critical point": the first derivative of the free
energy is discontinuous at w_0, while the correlation length diverges as w
\downarrow w_0 (and is infinite at w = w_0). The critical behavior at w = w_0
seems to be the same for both lattices and it differs from that of the
Berker-Kadanoff phase: our results suggest that the conformal charge is c = -1,
the leading thermal scaling dimension is x_{T,1} = 0, and the critical

Scaling of the B and D meson spectrum in lattice QCD
We give results for the and the meson spectrum using NRQCD on the
lattice in the quenched approximation. The masses of radially and orbitally
excited states are calculated as well as -wave hyperfine and -wave fine
structure. Radially excited -states are observed for the first time. Radial
and orbital excitation energies match well to experiment, as does the
strange-non-strange -wave splitting. We compare the light and heavy quark
mass dependence of various splittings to experiment. Our -results cover a
range in lattice spacings of more than a factor of two. Our -results are
from a single lattice spacing and we compare them to numbers in the literature
from finer lattices using other methods. We see no significant dependence of
physical results on the lattice spacing.

Best emollients for eczema (BEE) â comparing four types of emollients in children with eczema: protocol for randomised trial and nested qualitative study
Introduction Atopic dermatitis/eczema affects around 20% of children and is characterised by inflamed, dry, itchy skin. Guidelines recommend âleave-onâ emollients that are applied directly to the skin to add or trap moisture and used regularly, they can soothe, enhance the skin barrier and may prevent disease âflaresâ. However, the suitability of the many different emollients varies between people and there is little evidence to help prescribers and parents and carers decide which type to try first.Methods and analysis Design: pragmatic, multicentre, individually randomised, parallel group superiority trial of four types of emollient (lotions, creams, gel or ointments).Setting: general practitioner surgeries in England.Participants: children aged over 6 months and less than 12 years with mild-to-severe eczema and no known sensitivity to study emollients.Interventions: study-approved lotion, cream, gel or ointment as the only leave-on emollient for 16 weeks, with directions to apply twice daily and as required. Other treatments, such as topical corticosteroids, used as standard care.Follow-up: 52 weeks.Primary outcome: validated patient-orientated eczema measure measured weekly for 16 weeks.Secondary outcomes: eczema signs (Eczema Area Severity Index) by masked researcher, treatment use, parent satisfaction, adverse events, child and family quality of life (Atopic Dermatitis Quality of Life, Child Health Utility 9D and Dermatitis Family Impact).Sample size: 520 participants (130 per group).Analysis: intention-to-treat using linear mixed models for repeated measures.Nested qualitative study: audio-recording of sample of baseline appointments and up to 60 interviews with participants at 4 and 16 weeks, interviews to be transcribed and analysed thematically.Ethics and dissemination Ethics approval granted by the NHS REC (South West - Central Bristol Research Ethics Committee 17/SW/0089).
