1,4-Bis(4-nitrosophenyl)piperazine: novel bridging ligand in dinuclear complexes of rhodium(III) and iridium(III).

The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and crystal structures of the first 1,4-bis(4-nitrosophenyl)piperazine (BNPP) (4) bridged dinuclear complexes of rhodium(III) and iridium(III) are presented. The reaction of the μ2-halogenido-bridged dimers [(η5-C5Me5)IrX2]2 [X = Cl (5a), Br (5b), I (5c)] and [(η5- C5Me5)RhCl2]2 (6a) with 4 yields the dinuclear complexes [(η5-C5Me5)IrX2]2-BNPP (7a–c) and [(η5-C5Me5)RhCl2]2-BNPP (8a). All new compounds were characterized by their NMR, IR and mass spectra. The X-ray structure analyses of the obtained half-sandwich complexes revealed a slightly distorted pseudo-octahedral configuration (“three-legged pianostool”) for the metal(III) centers. The bridging BNPP ligand is σ-N coordinated by both nitroso groups and shows different conformations of the piperazine ring depending on the solvent used for crystallization. Moreover the crystal structures of 1,4-bis(4-nitrosophenyl)piperazine (4) and its precursor 1,4-diphenylpiperazine (3) are reported

Iwasawa Theory for One-Parameter Families of Motives

In this thesis we build on the work of Fukaya and Kato in which they presented equivariant Tamagawa Number conjectures that implied a very general (noncommutative) Iwasawa main conjecture for rather general motives. We apply their methods to the case of one-parameter families of motives to derive a main conjecture for such families (theorem 4.31). On our way there we get some unconditional results on the variation of the (algebraic) lambdalambda- and the mumu-invariant in many cases (theorem 3.33 and corollary 3.34). We focus on the results dealing with Selmer complexes instead of the more classical notion of Selmer groups. However, where possible we give the connection to the classical notions. The final chapter deals with the deformation theory of the representations occurring in our theory and the existence of one-parameter families. In particular we recover and generalize some results on the variation of Iwasawa invariants in Hida families

The Impact of Provider Choice on Workers' Compensation Costs and Outcomes

    Get PDF
We study how provider choice in workers' compensation cases affects costs and outcomes. When employees choose the provider, costs are higher and return-to-work outcomes are worse, while physical recovery is the same although satisfaction with medical care is higher. The higher costs and worse return-to-work outcomes associated with employee choice arise largely when employees selected a new provider, rather than a provider with whom the worker had a pre-existing relationship. The findings lend some support to recent policy changes limiting workers' ability to choose a provider with whom they do not have a prior relationship.

The Workers' Compensation System of British Columbia: Still in Transition

This inventory addresses eight core issues in the British Columbia workers' compensation system:* How is the system administered?* How do claims flow through the system?* What dispute resolution procedures are used, and to what effect?* What benefits are paid?* How are vocational rehabilitation services provided?* How is the system financed?* What are the actual costs of administration, benefits, claims processing, and appeal?* What aspects of the system deserve further attention

    Washington Pension System Review

The purpose of this study is to analyze the incidence of Total Permanent Disability (TPD)pensions in Washington State's workers' compensation program. Concerns exist at both thelegislature and in the Department of Labor and Industries as there appears to have been a sharp upturn in the number of pensions awarded since late in the 1990s. This report examines the factors that may be causally related to any upsurge in such awards. Our task is to evaluate pension incidence for both the state fund and the self-insured populations, with a view towards identifying causes of the trend in both sectors, although we concentrate more on the state fund Cclaims due to data limitations
