Telework's poly (mono)phony
Teleworking has been gaining prominence and a considerable number of adepts facing the imperatives of greater flexibility and cost reduction in the globalized Market and inconsistent in which organizations and professionals are embedded. Given this, it becomes a topic that deserves attention in the corporate and academic world because it is a multifaceted field and still little explored. The objective of this article is to analyze the senses of telework found in the magazines Voc? S.A. and Exame, exemplars of the popular management literature or literature pop management; identifying the words and expressions found most frequently in the publications about the theme and analyzing them as categories of meaning. The nature of this study is qualitative and exploratory, using content analysis for data treatment. The publications on teleworking were analyzed in the journals cited in the period from 2010 to 2016, demonstrating the visions commonly related to the subject and contributing to the better understanding about the telework phenomenon. From the results obtained it is possible to infer that teleworking needs attention in relation to its delimitation, conceptualization and legal regulation, in order to give more security to those involved and more credibility to the statistics and studies carried out. Although it is a subject that is conceptually and legally still being built, there is a set of pop-management publications that contribute to the construction of a more homogeneous concept of teleworking, characterizing a "monophony" and revealing the need to carry out studies that their specificities and existing gaps
Eliminating Malaria Vectors.
Malaria vectors which predominantly feed indoors upon humans have been locally eliminated from several settings with insecticide treated nets (ITNs), indoor residual spraying or larval source management. Recent dramatic declines of An. gambiae in east Africa with imperfect ITN coverage suggest mosquito populations can rapidly collapse when forced below realistically achievable, non-zero thresholds of density and supporting resource availability. Here we explain why insecticide-based mosquito elimination strategies are feasible, desirable and can be extended to a wider variety of species by expanding the vector control arsenal to cover a broader spectrum of the resources they need to survive. The greatest advantage of eliminating mosquitoes, rather than merely controlling them, is that this precludes local selection for behavioural or physiological resistance traits. The greatest challenges are therefore to achieve high biological coverage of targeted resources rapidly enough to prevent local emergence of resistance and to then continually exclude, monitor for and respond to re-invasion from external populations
Alcaligenes faecalis associated with Mimosa calodendron rizhosphere assist plant survival in arsenic rich soils.
The ferruginous rupestrian grasslands (FRG) in the Iron Quadrangle (IQ) are ecosystems characterized by rocky
soils with reduced availability of water and nutrients, but high levels of metals. In order to comprehend the interference of microorganisms on the adaptive process of endemic plant Mimosa calodendrum (Fabaceae), bacteria
associated with its roots and rhizosphere were isolated. Fourteen isolates were obtained and subsequently grown
in the presence of different concentrations of arsenic (As) species. The isolate Mc250, an Alcaligenes faecalis
strain, resisted to 10 mM of As (III) and 800 mM of As (V). In the presence of this strain, atomic spectrometer
detected a reduction of 55% for As (III) and 72% for As (V) respectively in 10 mM and 500 mM solution.
Scanning electron microscopy of this isolate demonstrated morphological modification and EDX spectroscopy
revealed the presence of both As species adsorbed on the membrane, justifying the removal observed in the in
vitro assays. To validate this potential removal of As in vivo, tomato plants were used as grown model in the
presence and absence of A. faecalis in soil previously contaminated with 5 mM of As (III). After 14 days, plants
from contaminated soil had their growth improved when compared to untreated control plants. All these results
suggest for the first time that plant-associated bacteria from FRG-IQ present potential for soil rhizoremediation
and may benefit the adaptive processes of plants in extreme environments including application in recovering
degraded areas
Cryptococcus neoformans induces IL-8 secretion and CXCL1 expression by human bronchial epithelial cells
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Cryptococcus neoformans </it>(<it>C. neoformans</it>) is a globally distributed fungal pathogen with the potential to cause serious disease, particularly among immune compromised hosts. Exposure to this organism is believed to occur by inhalation and may result in pneumonia and/or disseminated infection of the brain as well as other organs. Little is known about the role of airway epithelial cells in cryptococcal recognition or their ability to induce an inflammatory response.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Immortalized BEAS-2B bronchial epithelial cells and primary normal human bronchial epithelium (NHBE) were stimulated <it>in vitro </it>with encapsulated or acapsular <it>C. neoformans </it>cultivated at room temperature or 37°C. Activation of bronchial epithelial cells was characterized by analysis of inflammatory cytokine and chemokine expression, transcription factor activation, fungal-host cell association, and host cell damage.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Viable <it>C. neoformans </it>is a strong activator of BEAS-2B cells, resulting in the production of the neutrophil chemokine Interleukin (IL)-8 in a time- and dose-dependent manner. IL-8 production was observed only in response to acapsular <it>C. neoformans </it>that was grown at 37°C. <it>C. neoformans </it>was also able to induce the expression of the chemokine CXCL1 and the transcription factor CAAT/enhancer-binding protein beta (CEBP/β) in BEAS-2B cells. NHBE was highly responsive to stimulation with <it>C. neoformans</it>; in addition to transcriptional up regulation of CXCL1, these primary cells exhibited the greatest IL-8 secretion and cell damage in response to stimulation with an acapsular strain of <it>C. neoformans</it>.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>This study demonstrates that human bronchial epithelial cells mediate an acute inflammatory response to <it>C. neoformans </it>and are susceptible to damage by this fungal pathogen. The presence of capsular polysaccharide and <it>in vitro </it>fungal culture conditions modulate the host inflammatory response to <it>C. neoformans</it>. Human bronchial epithelial cells are likely to contribute to the initial stages of pulmonary host defense <it>in vivo</it>.</p
Low appendicular muscle mass is correlated with femoral neck bone mineral density loss in postmenopausal women
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>After menopause, rapid bone mass loss occurs in response to hypoestrogenism. Several studies suggest that muscle mass and bone mineral density (BMD) are positively associated in postmenopausal women. Therefore, it may be assumed that postmenopausal low appendicular muscle mass (aMM) can increase BMD loss in a short period of time.</p> <p>Objective</p> <p>The purpose of this study was to assess relationship of aMM with femoral neck BMD in postmenopausal women.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Prospective, controlled clinical Trial including 64 women aged 45-70 years, who had not had their last menstruation for at least one year. Subjects were divided into two groups: low aMM (n = 32), and normal aMM (n-32). Femoral neck BMD and muscle mass were measured by DXA at baseline and after twelve months. Pairwise and independent t tests were used for data analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Baseline weight, BMI and muscle mass (total and appendicular) significantly differ between groups (p < 0.05). After twelve months, femoral neck BMD was significantly lower in the group with low aMM, whereas no significant difference was observed in the group with normal aMM (p < 0.05).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In postmenopausal women, low appendicular muscle mass is associated negatively with femoral neck BMD in a short period of time.</p
OCCURRENCE OF Calodium hepaticum (BANCROFT, 1893) MORAVEC, 1982 EGGS IN FECES OF DOGS AND CATS IN LAGES, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL
This study aims to report the incidence of Calodium hepaticum among dogs and cats, pets or stray animals, captured by the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ) in Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Fecal samples from 108 pet dogs and eight pet cats, and from 357 stray dogs and 97 stray cats, captured by CCZ, were analyzed within the period from July 2010 to November 2012. Coproparasitological exams were performed by techniques of sedimentation, centrifuge-flotation, and simple flotation. Among 465 fecal samples from dogs and 105 from cats, the overall spurious infections for C. hepaticum eggs were 1.05%. For dogs, this positivity was 0.43% and for cats it was 3.81%. The two positive dogs were stray and out of the four cats, three were stray and one was a pet. Although the occurrence of C. hepaticum eggs was low, these data reveal the existence of infected rodents, especially in public places, since, out of the six infected animals, five (83.33%) were stray. These results are discussed and analyzed with an emphasis on the risk to public health
