On the ISW-cluster cross-correlation in future surveys

Get PDF
We investigate the cosmological information contained in the cross-correlation between the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy pattern and galaxy clusters from future wide surveys. Future surveys will provide cluster catalogues with a number of objects comparable with galaxy catalogues currently used for the detection of the ISW signal by cross-correlation with the CMB anisotropy pattern. By computing the angular power spectra of clusters and the corresponding cross-correlation with CMB, we perform a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) analysis for the ISW detection as expected from the eROSITA and the Euclid space missions. We discuss the dependence of the SNR of the ISW-cluster cross-correlation on the specifications of the catalogues and on the reference cosmology. We forecast that the SNRs for ISW-cluster cross-correlation are alightly smaller compared to those which can be obtained from future galaxy surveys but the signal is expected to be detected at high significance, i.e. more than >3 σ> 3\,\sigma. We also forecast the joint constraints on parameters of model extensions of the concordance Λ\LambdaCDM cosmology by combining CMB and the ISW-cluster cross-correlation.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures. Stability of Cubic FAPbI3_3 from X-ray Diffraction, Anelastic, and Dielectric Measurements

Among the hybrid metal-organic perovskites for photovoltaic applications FAPbI_3 (FAPI) has the best performance regarding efficiency and the worst regarding stability, even though the reports on its stability are highly contradictory. In particular, since at room temperature the cubic alpha phase, black and with high photovoltaic efficiency, is metastable against the yellow hexagonal delta phase, it is believed that alpha-FAPI spontaneously transform into delta-FAPI within a relatively short time. We performed X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric measurements on loose powder of FAPI, and present the first complete dielectric and anelastic spectra of compacted FAPI samples under various conditions. We found that alpha-FAPI is perfectly stable for at least 100 days, the duration of the experiments, unless extrinsic factors induce its degradation. In our tests, degradation was detected after exposure to humidity, strongly accelerated by grain boundaries and the presence of delta phase, but it was not noticeable on the loose powder kept in air under normal laboratory illumination. These findings have strong implications on the strategies for improving the stability of FAPI without diminishing its photovoltaic efficiency through modifications of its composition

Open University vs. Consorzio Nettuno: An Institutional Analysis of Two Technology Enabled Higher Educational Systems

Assuming a rational perspective, the adoption and development of a new organisational technology can be viewed as a way to achieve an higher level of efficiency by finding the best way to fully exploit its potential. In other words, one might sustain that since organisations do initially ignore how to best deal with an innovative technology, they engage in a trial and error learning process that finally leads to the x-efficiency frontier. Once this knowledge is achieved, it will probably be spread around by external agents (e.g. consultants) enabling an imitative process. Thus in the long run all organisations will make almost the same efficient use of a mature organisational technology. In this paper we tried to explore how the same technology (eLearning) has been adopted by two diverse educational organisations. The patterns of development have been studied across time to verify if a progressive convergence has occurred. Results are providing some useful insights on what variables must be paid attention to when transferring a technological organisational innovation in a different settin

Titanium and Ruthenium Phthalocyanines for NO2 Sensors: A Mini-Review

Get PDF
This review presents studies devoted to the description and comprehension of phenomena connected with the sensing behaviour towards NO2 of films of two phthalocyanines, titanium bis-phthalocyanine and ruthenium phthalocyanine. Spectroscopic, conductometric, and morphological features recorded during exposure to the gas are explained and the mechanisms of gas-molecule interaction are also elucidated. The review also shows how X-ray reflectivity can be a useful tool for monitoring morphological parameters such as thickness and roughness that are demonstrated to be sensitive variables for monitoring the exposure of thin films of sensor materials to NO2 gas

Canine giardiosis in Sardinia Island, Italy: prevalence, molecular characterization, and risk factors

Get PDF
Introduction: The flagellate protozoan Giardia duodenalis causes infection in humans and in various animals. Eight distinct assemblages (A-H) have been identified within G. duodenalis; assemblages A and B are those specific to humans and animals, and assemblages C to H are restricted to animal hosts. Methodology: The present study estimated the prevalence of G. duodenalis assemblages in dogs living in the Sardinia region and evaluated the related risk factors. Individual fecal samples were collected from 655 dogs between January 2007 and December 2010, and a form was filled out for each animal to analyze historic data that were available at the time of sampling. Fecal samples were subjected to microscopic and genetic investigations. Results: Cysts of G. duodenalis were found in 172 (26.3%) samples, with significant values in puppies between three and nine months of age, and in kennelled and hunting dogs. The molecular characterization showed the presence of assemblages D (49%), C (36.1%), and subtype A2 (4.2%). Conclusion: The present survey contributes to the knowledge of the occurrence of canine giardiosis in Italy in a region with a high number of dogs and numerous animal movements, which is especially relevant for touristic reasons.</br

Lipoplexes for effective in vitro delivery of microRNAs to adult human cardiac fibroblasts for perspective direct cardiac cell reprogramming

Design of nanocarriers for efficient miRNA delivery can significantly improve miRNA-based therapies. Lipoplexes based on helper lipid, dioleoyl phosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) and cationic lipid [2-(2,3-didodecyloxypropyl)-hydroxyethyl] ammonium bromide (DE) were formulated to efficiently deliver miR-1 or a combination of four microRNAs (miRcombo) to adult human cardiac fibroblasts (AHCFs). Lipoplexes with amino-to-phosphate groups ratio of 3 (N/P 3) showed nanometric hydrodynamic size (372 nm), positive Z-potential (40 mV) and high stability under storage conditions. Compared to commercial Dharma FECT1 (DF), DE-DOPE/miRNA lipoplexes showed superior miRNA loading efficiency (99 % vs. 64 %), and faster miRNA release (99 % vs. 82 % at 48 h). DE-DOPE/miR-1 lipoplexes showed superior viability (80-100 % vs. 50 %) in AHCFs, a 2-fold higher miR-1 expression and Twinfilin-1 (TWF-1) mRNA down regulation. DE-DOPE/ miRcombo lipoplexes significantly enhanced AHCFs reprogramming into induced cardiomyocytes (iCMs), as shown by increased expression of CM markers compared to DF/miRcombo. The Epidemiological scenario of echinococcosis in the Abruzzo region

Echinococcosis is still one of the most common parasitic disease in Italy and has important consequences on economic retums, productivity and public health. Although it is a notifiable disease, the lack of notifications in the Abruzzo region is an obstacle to tracing a reliable epidemiological picture of this parasitic disease in humans and livestock. A statistical survey and a molecular study were carried out to update figures and facts (e.g. prevalence in ruminants and dogs and risk factors) and to gather more information (i.e. kind and viability of cysts, strain/genotypes and reliability of coproantigen test) regarding the epidemiological scenario of echinococcosis in intermediate and definitive hosts in Abruzzo region
