10.1021/ic402962cA dimeric polyoxometalatate-based bis cobalt(III)-oxyl compound, [(POMCo)2O], was isolated by oxidation of a monomeric cobalt(II) precursor with ozone and characterized in the solid state by X-ray diffraction and in solution by multiple spectroscopic methods. The electronic state was determined computationally. [(POMCo)2O] was shown to be competent for the oxidation of water, the oxidation of alcohols by a hydrogen atom transfer mechanism, and oxygen transfer to sulfides as well a manganese porphyrin
