    Isostaticity in two dimensional pile of rigid disks

    We study the static structure of piles made of polydisperse disks in the rigid limit with and without friction using molecular dynamic simulations for various elasticities of the disks and pile preparation procedures. The coordination numbers are calculated to examine the isostaticity of the pile structure. For the frictionless pile, it is demonstrated that the coordination number converges to 4 in the rigid limit, which implies that the structure of rigid disk pile is isostatic. On the other hand, for the frictional case with the infinite friction constant, the coordination number depends on the preparation procedure of the pile, but we find that the structure becomes very close to isostatic with the coordination number close to 3 in the rigid limit when the pile is formed through the process that tends to make a pile of random configuration.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, Submitted to J.     The serious outbreaks of white grubs that have occurred in northeastern Iowa during the past ten years are part of a general outbreak appearing in a number of more or less timbered areas in a belt running from Minnesota and Iowa east to New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. These grubs first appeared in unusual number in 1909, increased in severity in 1912 and reached a climax of injury in 1915. In 1918 the damage was considerably less than in the previous outbreak and it is probable that the parasites and other enemies of the grubs will reduce their numbers to a nearly normal amount by 1921 or 1924 at the latest

    The BsKB_{s}\to K Form Factor in The Whole Kinematically Accessible Range

    A systematic analysis is presented of the BsKB_{s}\to K form factor f(q2)f(q^{2}) in the whole range of momentum transfer q2q^{2}, which would be useful to analyzing the future data on BsKB_{s}\to K decays and extracting Vub| V_{ub}|. With a modified QCD light cone sum rule (LCSR) approach, in which the contributions cancel out from the twist 3 wavefunctions of KK meson, we investigate in detail the behavior of f(q2)f(q^{2}) at small and intermediate q2q^{2} and the nonperturbative quantity fBgBBsKf_{B^{\ast}}g_{B^{\ast}B_{s}K} (fB(f_{B^{\ast}} is the decay constant of BB^{\ast} meson and gBBsKg_{B^{\ast}B_{s}K} the BBsKB^{\ast}B_{s}K strong coupling), whose numerical result is used to study q2q^{2} dependence of f(q2)f(q^{2}) at large q2q^{2} in the single pole approximation. Based on these findings, a form factor model from the best fit is formulated, which applies to the calculation on f(q2)f(q^{2}) in the whole kinematically accessible range.     Poisson transition rates from time-domain measurements with finite bandwidth

    In time-domain measurements of a Poisson two-level system, the observed transition rates are always smaller than those of the actual system, a general consequence of finite measurement bandwidth in an experiment. This underestimation of the rates is significant even when the measurement and detection apparatus is ten times faster than the process under study. We derive here a quantitative form for this correction using a straightforward state-transition model that includes the detection apparatus, and provide a method for determining a system's actual transition rates from bandwidth-limited measurements. We support our results with computer simulations and experimental data from time-domain measurements of quasiparticle tunneling in a single-Cooper-pair transistor.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

    Mass of nonrelativistic meson from leading twist distribution amplitudes

    In this paper distribution amplitudes of pseudoscalar and vector nonrelativistic mesons are considered. Using equations of motion for the distribution amplitudes, it is derived relations which allow one to calculate the masses of nonrelativistic pseudoscalar and vector meson if the leading twist distribution amplitudes are known. These relations can be also rewritten as relations between the masses of nonrelativistic mesons and infinite series of QCD operators, what can be considered as an exact version of Gremm-Kapustin relation in NRQCD.Comment: 4 page

    A Comprehensive Analysis on the Pion-Photon Transition Form Factor Beyond the Leading Fock State

    We perform a comprehensive analysis of the pion-photon transition form factor Fπγ(Q2)F_{\pi \gamma}(Q^2) involving the transverse momentum corrections with the present CLEO experimental data, in which the contributions beyond the leading Fock state have been taken into consideration. As is well-known, the leading Fock-state contribution dominates of Fπγ(Q2)F_{\pi \gamma}(Q^2) at large momentum transfer (Q2Q^2) region. One should include the contributions beyond the leading Fock state in small Q2Q^2 region. In this paper, we construct a phenomenological expression to estimate the contributions beyond the leading Fock state based on its asymptotic behavior at Q20Q^2\to0. Our present theoretical results agree well with the experimental data in the whole Q2Q^2 region. Then, we extract some useful information of the pionic leading twist-2 distribution amplitude (DA) by comparing our results of Fπγ(Q2)F_{\pi \gamma}(Q^2) with the CLEO data. By taking best fit, we have the DA moments, a2(μ02)=0.0020.054+0.063a_2(\mu_0^2)=0.002^{+0.063}_{-0.054}, a4(μ02)=0.0220.012+0.026a_4(\mu_0^2)=-0.022_{-0.012}^{+0.026} and all of higher moments, which are closed to the asymptotic-like behavior of the pion wavefunction.Comment: 25 pages, 7 figures.
