In flash thermal diffusivity measurements, sample heat losses distort the rear surface temperature-time history. These thermal losses occurring necessarily after the flash energy déposition, the temperature is all the less perturbed as time is nearer the origin. Consequently, the diffusivity identification by extrapolating towards the initial time the apparent diffusivity-versus-time history, is proposed It is first demonstrated that the beginning of the temperature rise may be used very soon with sufficient precision for diffusivity determination, and that the adiabatic final temperature may be evaluated from the temperature rise curve without any restrictive assumption concerning the losses. In these conditions, the proposed method is applicable. Practically, for extrapolation, the apparent diffusivity evolution is approximated using least mean squares parabolic regression, every point being weighted proportionnally to the corresponding diffusivity observability. After a theoretical evaluation of its precision, the method is applied to experimental data and compared to other methods.
