The Effect Of Finishing Treatment On Thermal Insulation And Thermal Contact Properties Of Wet Fabrics

    Get PDF
Comfort properties of textiles became important part of marketing of clothing with high added value in last decades. The most important parameters characterizing thermo physiological comfort of sport and protective garments are thermal resistance and water vapour permeability. Contrary to common textiles, protective and functional garments and some technical textiles are also used in wet state, which affects their comfort properties. However, these properties can be improved by application of special finishing agents. The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of moisture on thermal comfort properties of 3 different cotton fabrics which were subject to 5 different finishing treatments. Thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, thermalabsorptivity and water vapour permeability of fabrics in dry and wet state were measured. Wet state of the studied fabrics was achieved by means of the so called "sweating impulse". The achieved results were treated by means of advanced statistics and displayed in diagrams. It was found the presence of moisture affected substantively all thermal-insulation and thermal-contact properties

    Mechanical properties of basalt filaments

In this contribution selected physical and mechanical properties of laboratory prepared basalt filaments and fibres drawn out from these are presented The mechanical properties were investigated after tempering up to 800 degrees C. The ultimate strength distribution, torsional rigidity, deformation at break and sound wave spread velocity are mentioned. The thermal properties were investigated by TMA apparatus. The thermal expansion and compressive creep were measured. Analysis of a fibrous fragment evolved during the abrasion of basalt weave is presented. Basalt particles are too thick to be directly respirable, but their length/diameter ratio is higher than 3 and therefore the handling of basalt fibres must be carried out with care

Some open problems of hand evaluation

This report discusses the reproducibility of subjective hand evaluation and the prediction, of subjective hand. For reliable subjective hand evaluation, the reproducibility of results and their good presentation are important. An approach based on categorized variables is used. The ordinal median and a 95% confidence interval are applied. The set of fabric properties associated with hand is specified. The method of forecasting subjective hand based on these properties is described. The whole procedure is demonstrated in relation to polyester/wool fabrics for men's winter suits

A lot of work and a big effort have been devoted to the area of understanding of sensory analysis of subjective hand evaluation and its objective prediction. So that the proposed models of objective evaluation can have validity for a longer time, the repeatability and reproducibility of total hand are necessary. In this paper the reproducibility, repeatability and influence of visual stimuli on the hand evaluation are verified by means of linear regression and using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Eleven degrees ordinal scale was applied and a sample rating median was analyzed. Three groups of respondents evaluated total hand during approximately one decade. The results indicate the possibility to reach repeatability and reproducibility of hand evaluation during long time period. Influence of visual stimuli was not proved clearly

The original approach to prediction of hand evaluation of fabrics based on ordinal logistic regression is presented in habilitation thesis. The thesis is submitted as a summary of scientific papers completed with comments. Thesis is divided to two charteres. In the first part the key aspects connected with subjective hand evaluation are discussed-repeatability and reproducibility and measurement of surface roughness of fabrics. In the second part the aspects of the procedure of the creation of regression equation for prediction of hand are mentioned. The most of papers deals with prediction of hand or broader context associated with the hand
