General relativistic spinning fluids with a modified projection tensor
An energy-momentum tensor for general relativistic spinning fluids compatible
with Tulczyjew-type supplementary condition is derived from the variation of a
general Lagrangian with unspecified explicit form. This tensor is the sum of a
term containing the Belinfante-Rosenfeld tensor and a modified perfect-fluid
energy-momentum tensor in which the four-velocity is replaced by a unit
four-vector in the direction of fluid momentum. The equations of motion are
obtained and it is shown that they admit a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker
space-time as a solution.Comment: Submitted to General Relativity and Gravitatio
Magnetic-interference patterns in Josephson junctions with d+is symmetry
The magnetic interference pattern and the spontaneous flux in unconventional
Josephson junctions of superconductors with d+is symmetry are calculated for
different reduced junction lengths and the relative factor of the d and s wave
components. This is a time reversal broken symmetry state. We study the
stability of the fractional vortex and antivortex which are spontaneously
formed and examine their evolution as we change the length and the relative
factor of d and s wave components. The asymmetry in the field modulated
diffraction pattern exists for lengths as long as L=10\lambda_J.Comment: 8 pages, 6 eps files, submitted to PR
Generating Presentation Constraints from Rhetorical Structure
Hypermedia structured in terms of the higher-level intent of its author can be adapted to a wider variety of final presentations. Many multimedia systems encode such high-level intent as constraints on either time, spatial layout or navigation. Once specified, these constraints are translated into specific presentations whose timelines, screen displays and navigational structure satisfy these constraints. This ensures that the desired spatial, temporal and navigation properties are maintained no matter how the presentation is adapted to varying circumstances. Rhetorical structure defines author intent at a still higher level. Authoring at this level requires that rhetorics can be translated to final presentations that properly reflect them. This paper explores how rhetorical structure can be translated into constraints, which are then translated into final presentations. This enables authoring in terms of rhetorics and provides the assurance that the rhetorics will remain properly conveyed in all presentation adaptation
Covers of acts over monoids II
In 1981 Edgar Enochs conjectured that every module has a flat cover and
finally proved this in 2001. Since then a great deal of effort has been spent
on studying different types of covers, for example injective and torsion free
covers. In 2008, Mahmoudi and Renshaw initiated the study of flat covers of
acts over monoids but their definition of cover was slightly different from
that of Enochs. Recently, Bailey and Renshaw produced some preliminary results
on the `other' type of cover and it is this work that is extended in this
paper. We consider free, divisible, torsion free and injective covers and
demonstrate that in some cases the results are quite different from the module
case
Differential Cross Section for Higgs Boson Production Including All-Orders Soft Gluon Resummation
The transverse momentum distribution is computed for inclusive Higgs
boson production at the energy of the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We focus on
the dominant gluon-gluon subprocess in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and
incorporate contributions from the quark-gluon and quark-antiquark channels.
Using an impact-parameter -space formalism, we include all-orders
resummation of large logarithms associated with emission of soft gluons. Our
resummed results merge smoothly at large with the fixed-order
expectations in perturbative quantum chromodynamics, as they should, with no
need for a matching procedure. They show a high degree of stability with
respect to variation of parameters associated with the non-perturbative input
at low . We provide distributions for Higgs boson masses
from to 200 GeV. The average transverse momentum at zero rapidity
grows approximately linearly with mass of the Higgs boson over the range ~GeV. We provide analogous results
for boson production, for which we compute GeV. The
harder transverse momentum distribution for the Higgs boson arises because
there is more soft gluon radiation in Higgs boson production than in
production.Comment: 42 pages, latex, 26 figures. All figures replaced. Some changes in

The interaction of a gap with a free boundary in a two dimensional dimer system
Let be a fixed vertical lattice line of the unit triangular lattice in
the plane, and let \Cal H be the half plane to the left of . We
consider lozenge tilings of \Cal H that have a triangular gap of side-length
two and in which is a free boundary - i.e., tiles are allowed to
protrude out half-way across . We prove that the correlation function of
this gap near the free boundary has asymptotics ,
, where is the distance from the gap to the free boundary. This
parallels the electrostatic phenomenon by which the field of an electric charge
near a conductor can be obtained by the method of images.Comment: 34 pages, AmS-Te
Critical currents in Josephson junctions, with unconventional pairing symmetry: versus
Phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau theory is used to calculate the possible
spontaneous vortex states that may exist at corner junctions of
-wave, (where or ) and s-wave superconductors.
We study the magnetic flux and the critical current modulation with the
junction orientation angle , the magnitude of the order parameter, and
the magnetic field . It is seen that the critical current versus the
magnetic flux relation is symmetric / asymmetric for when
the orientation is exactly such that the lobes of the dominant
-wave order parameter points towards the two junctions, which are
at right angles for the corner junction. The conclusion is that a measurement
of the relation may distinguish which symmetry ( or
) the order parameter has.Comment: 11 pages with 11 figures, Changed conten
Fractional vortices on grain boundaries --- the case for broken time reversal symmetry in high temperature superconductors
We discuss the problem of broken time reversal symmetry near grain boundaries
in a d-wave superconductor based on a Ginzburg-Landau theory. It is shown that
such a state can lead to fractional vortices on the grain boundary. Both
analytical and numerical results show the structure of this type of state.Comment: 9 pages, RevTeX, 5 postscript figures include
