    Reduction and Swelling Behaviour of Fired Iron Ore Pellets

    The present project work on “Reduction and Swelling Behaviour of Fired Iron Ore Pellets” was undertaken with a view to promote the effective utilization of iron ore and coal fines in sponge iron making. Presently, India has become the world leader in sponge iron production and the production of steel by DR-EAF route is increasing day by day. In the present project work, the effect of addition of concentrated sugarcane juice binder on the physical properties of fired iron ore pellets was investigated. The crushing strength and drop number were found to be maximum at 2% binder addition, followed by a decrease with further increase in binder concentration. A reverse trend was observed in the case of porosity, i.e. porosity of fired pellets increased with rise in binder concentration from 2% to 6%. The pellets fired at 13000C were processed for reduction and swelling studies in different types of coal. The degree of reduction of fired iron ore pellets increased with increase of reduction temperature and time up to the range studied. The extent of swelling in fired iron ore pellets during their production increased with increase of reduction time, most probably due to the structural changes and fibrous growth of iron particles.     Calorie Estimation from Fast Food Images Using Support Vector Machine

    Calorie estimation is one of the interesting area of research nowadays. The proposed model focuses on estimation of number of calories in the food item by just taking its image as input. Some image processing operations are performed on the image of food item followed by machine learning technique known as support vector machine(SVM). We took data from different resources [20] [21] [22], compile them to create our own dataset. Augmented dataset is used to train the SVM model and results show an accuracy of 90.66%. The experiments we performed conforms the feasibility of the proposed model

    Bacterial Diversity in Cold Environments of Indian Himalayas

    Not AvailableThe remote cold environments of Indian Himalayas are witnessed by extreme situations with a lot of variations in temperatures, low availability of water and nutrients and exposure to a lot of radiations. These extreme environments generally considered unfavourable to growth and survival of plants and animals are usually colonized by the microorganisms capable of growth and survivability under the prevailing severe conditions. Because of the extremophilic enzymes, proteins and biomolecules possessed by cold-adapted microorganism, they are of importance for industry, agriculture and biotechnology. In this chapter, (1) diversity of bacteria present in cold environments based on culturing and metagenomics approaches, (2) microorganisms from cold environments in agriculture, (3) novel bacteria from cold environments and (4) genome sequencing of bacteria from cold environments have been discussed. Bacteria affiliated to various phyla like Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Acidobacteria, Gemmatimonadetes, Planctomycetes, Chlamydiae, Chlorobi, Chloroflexi, Dictyoglomi, Fibrobacteres, Nitrospirae and Verrucomicrobia have been reported from the Indian Himalayas. Microorganisms belonging to various genera for improving agriculture production under cold environment have been isolated and identified. Twenty-one novel species of bacteria have been isolated from different locations in the cold environments of the Himalayas. A genome of 18 strains isolated from these cold environments has been sequenced and published.Not Availabl
