    Electronic word of mouth in social media: The common characteristics of retweeted and favourited marketer-generated content posted on Twitter

    Marketers desire to utilise electronic word of mouth (eWOM) marketing on social media sites. However, not all online content generated by marketers has the same effect on consumers; some of them are effective while others are not. This paper aims to examine different characteristics of marketer-generated content (MGC) that of which one lead users to eWOM. Twitter was chosen as one of the leading social media sites and a content analysis approach was employed to identify the common characteristics of retweeted and favourited tweets. 2,780 tweets from six companies (Booking, Hostelworld, Hotels, Lastminute, Laterooms and Priceline) operating in the tourism sector are analysed. Results indicate that the posts which contain pictures, hyperlinks, product or service information, direct answers to customers and brand centrality are more likely to be retweeted and favourited by users.     Four viruses infecting figs in Western Saudi Arabia

    Many diseases are compromising fig production in Saudi Arabia and in particular those caused by viruses. RT-PCR assays were conducted on 80 samples collected from four fig-growing provinces in the West Mecca region of Saudi Arabia, including the Fatima, Khulais, Rabigh and Alshifa valleys. Samples consisted of leaf tissues taken from caprifig and common fig trees. The presence of Fig mosaic virus (FMV), Fig leaf mottle-associated virus 1 (FLMaV-1), Fig leaf mottle-associated virus 2 (FLMaV-2) and Fig mild mottle-associated virus (FMMaV) was assessed from the samples. RT-PCR results showed that all four viruses were present in the surveyed areas with different proportions of infection. Incidence was 69% of samples, with a peak of 80%, from the Alshifa and Fatima valleys, 60% from Rabigh and 55% from Khulais valley. FLMaV-1 was the prevailing virus (55% of samples), followed by FMV (34%), whereas FLMaV-2 (11% of samples) and FMMaV (6%) were less common. Most of the mosaic symptoms observed in surveyed fig orchards occurred with the presence of FMV. However, many other symptoms remained unexplained because of the arduous task of determining the involvement of other fig-infecting viruses with mosaic disease. This is the first report of FMMaV and FLMaV-2 in Saudi Arabia, and of FMV and FLMaV-1 in western Saudi Arabia. The virus status of this crop is probably compromised and a sanitation programme is required to produce healthy plant material in Saudi Arabia

    Investigating the metagenomics of the bacterial communities in the rhizosphere of the desert plant Senna italica and their role as plant growth promoting factors

    Natural microbial communities associated with desert plants are found in soils that face nutrient deficiencies and extreme environments, including salinity and drought. In this study, 16S rRNA metagenomic sequencing was used to screen and identify bacterial assemblies associated with the desert plant Senna italica, obtained from diverse soil samples located in the Asfan region, northeast of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Several studies found Senna italica as a valuable medicinal plant for treating different diseases; however, a few studies were done on its association with bacterial communities under drought conditions. This study aimed to identify bacterial communities present in the drought soil environment of the Senna italica plants. To approach our goals, we applied metagenomic techniques, discovering a new bacterial strain beneficial for biotechnological applications. Our results showed that the analysis of the 16S rRNA sequences at the taxonomic phylum level detected 15 phyla of bacterial populations in the soil samples. The most prevalent was kept for further research. Our findings demonstrated that rhizospheric bacteria may be used as indicators of plant growth rate and survival ability in hostile environments. Studying the soil microbiome's taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity will facilitate identifying new candidates for biological agents that can be used to improve agricultural and industrial processes

    Comparative metagenomics approaches to characterize the soil fungal communities of western coastal region, Saudi Arabia

    A total of 145007 reads were obtained from pyrosequencing for all the 4 samples. The total count ranged from 11,301,014 (Mecca old road) to 23,503,512 bp (Thuwal). A total of 460 fungal species belonging to 133 genera, 58 families, 33 orders, 13 classes and 4 phyla was identified across the four sites. The most abundant phylum at all four sites was Ascomycota followed by Basidiomycota. Four phyla (Ascomycota-99.31%, Basidiomycota-0.59%, Chytridiomycota-0.04%, Glomeromycota-0.03%) were detected in Khulais. Except for Glomeromycota, all phyla were detected at Mecca old road (Ascomycota-74.26%, Basidiomycota-25.71%, Chytridiomycota-0.01%) and Thuwal (Ascomycota-99.59%, Basidiomycota-0.40%, Chytridiomycota-0.002%); while only Ascomycota-90.98% and Basidiomycota-9.01% were detected in Asfan road. At the class level, Sordariomycetes was predominantly observed at Asfan road-59.88%, Khulais-68.26% and Thuwal-94.84%; while Pezizomycetes was dominant at Mecca old road-56.01%, was absent at Asfan road. Agaricomycetes was present only at Mecca old road-25.73%; while Tremellomycetes-5.77%, Malasseizomycetes-2.13% and Microbotryomycetes-1.10% were found only at Asfan road. The phylogenetic trees revealed that clear genus level differences are visible across all the four sites, with an overall predominance of Thielavia followed by Madurella, Aspergillus, and Gelasinospora. Chaetomium sp., Aspergillus caespitosus and Aspergillus sp. were found in moderate (Mecca old road and Thuwal) to abundant (Asfan road and Khulais) quantities. Thielavia sp., Thielavia hyalocarpa and Madurella sp. are found in moderate quantities at Khulais and Mecca old road, while in abundant levels at Asfan road and Thuwal. Fusarium equisati and F. oxysporum were detected at Thuwal and Khulais. Sordaria araneosa was present at Khulais, while Malasseiza globosa species was detected in moderate quantities across all sites except Khulais

    Fig leaf mottle-associated virus-1 (FLMaV-1) is a closterovirus newly identified in fig trees, in the Mecca region, suffering from mosaic disease symptoms and apparently is compromising the fig plantation in the country. In the present study, we demonstrated the efficiency of two in vivo experiments including pre and post treatments using Thuja leaf, ginger roots, Harmal seeds and turmeric rhizome extracts on symptoms expression of rooted cuttings infected with FLMaV-1- and their impact on virus multiplication. Results showed that individual treatments with ginger roots and turmeric rhizomes in pre-grafting experiments and Thuja extract following Harmal seeds in post grafting experiments were efficient against symptom development. In addition, results showed that the total photosynthesis pigments; total soluble intracellular proteins and total phenol contents were higher in infected treated cuttings compared with healthy ones, thus it was taken as evidence on a mutual interaction between these extracts and virus multiplication

    The Impact of COVID-19 on Maintaining Physical Activity and Its Associated Factors among Medical Students

    Background. Stay-home orders and the shutdown of university campuses and fitness centers have greatly influenced health behaviors, resulting in a widespread reduction in physical activity. This study aimed to identify factors associated with maintaining physical activity among Jazan University medical students during the COVID-19 shutdown. Methods. An official Arabic short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to assess physical activity before and during the COVID-19 home quarantine. Differences between groups were examined using chi-square analyses and the Mann–Whitney U test. Multinomial logistic regression was used to test whether certain demographic and exercise-related variables were significant predictors of maintaining physical activity levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results. More than half of the participants (53%) reported no change or increased physical activity level. Several factors were significantly related to physical activity heterogeneity including income (p = 0.04), fitness center membership (p < 0.01), usage of fitness tracker devices (p < 0.01), and the purchase of physical activity equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic (p < 0.01). The odds of maintaining physical activity were higher among those who tracked their physical activity (AOR = 6.160; 95% CI = 3.782–10.032, p < 0.001). Similarly, the odds of maintaining physical activity were higher among those who purchased home-exercise equipment during the pandemic (AOR = 2.243; 95% CI = 1.386–3.632, p = 0.001). Conclusions. Understanding the factors affecting physical activity behaviors is an essential step toward addressing the reduction in physical activity. This could help maintain physical activity levels during a potential future pandemic-related shutdown

    Shelf life extension of wheat bread by alhydwan flour and Carboxymethylcellulose and improvement of their quality characteristics, dough rheological and microstructure

    Alhydwan, has been used in bakery products for many years in South of Yemen. Alhydwan primary function in bakery products is to inhibit moisture content during storage, leading to improved shelf life. However, as a fresh strategy to bread staling, no extensive study has been conducted to evaluate its potential. The present study therefore examined the alhydwan as a comparison with Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) at 0.5% (w/w) level in dough rheology improvement, microstructure, quality parameters and delayed wheat bread staling. The CMC or alhydwan for farinograph characteristics comprising the dough's portrayed showed greater water absorption, while growth and stability time was significantly decreased. Staling of bread, the findings showed that in both alhydwan and CMC minimized crumb hardening frequency and enhanced freshness, quality and retention ability for moisture, making the bread softer and postponed staling. The microstructure of CMC or alhydwan supplemented formulation showed the distinguishable characteristics and constituents that could explain, to some degree, that the CMC and alhydwan had antistaling effect. The incorporation of alhydwan such as CMC into the formulation of bread could thus play a sustainable role in improving the quality of bread by having an extended shelf life. © 2020 Elsevier B.V
