    Modified Aperture Coupling Annular-Ring Antenna fed by Stripline

    Various types of feed structures for microstrip antennas are compared. Broad bandwidth is obtained using aperture coupling with impedance matching. One of advantages in aperture coupling is polarization purity. A modified aperture coupling annular-ring antenna fed by microstrip is presented in this paper. This antenna structure can be considered as the combination of aperture feeding and proximity feeding an annular-ring antenna. It has both advantages in the polarization purity and in reduction of back radiation. From the structure based on the proximity feed annular-ring antenna, an aperture layer is inserted and modified as well as an aperture size to enhance bandwidth

    11B^{11}B NMR and Relaxation in MgB2MgB_2 Superconductor

    11B^{11}B NMR and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (NSLR) are reported at 7.2 Tesla and 1.4 Tesla in powder samples of the intermetallic compound MgB2MgB_2 with superconducting transition temperature in zero field TcT_c = 39.2 K. From the first order quadrupole perturbed NMR specrum a quadrupole coupling frequency of 835 ±\pm 5 kHz is obtained. The Knight shift is very small and it decreases to zero in the superconducting phase. The NSLR follows a linear law with T1TT_1T = 165 ±\pm 10 (sec K) . The results in the normal phase indicate a negligible ss-character of the wave function of the conduction electrons at the Fermi level. Below TcT_c the NSLR is strongly field dependent indicating the presence of an important contribution related to the density and the thermal motion of flux lines. No coherence peak is observed at the lower field investigated (1.4 T)

    Gene alterations by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma agonists in human colorectal cancer cells

    The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma) is a nuclear transcription factor that controls the genes involved in metabolism and carcinogenesis. In the present study, we examined the alteration of gene expression in HCT-116 human colorectal cancer cells by PPARgamma agonists: MCC-555 (5 microM), rosiglitazone (5 microM), and 15-deoxy-Delta12,14-prostaglandin J2 (1 microM). The long-oligo microarray data revealed a list of target genes commonly induced (307 genes) and repressed (32 genes) by tested PPARgamma agonists. These genes were analyzed by Onto-Express software and KEGG pathway analysis and revealed that PPARgamma agonists are involved in cell proliferation, focal adhesion, and several signaling pathways. Eight genes were selected to confirm the microarray data by RT-PCR and real-time PCR, from which CSTA, DAP13, TAF12, RIS1, CDKN3 and MAGOH were up-regulated, and KLHL11 and NCOA2 were down-regulated. This study elucidates the commonly induced genes modulated by tested PPARgamma ligands involved in the different signaling pathways and metabolisms, probably mediated in a PPARgamma-dependent manner in colorectal cancer cells and helps to better understand the pleiotropic actions of PPARgamma ligands

    Diffusion on a heptagonal lattice

    We study the diffusion phenomena on the negatively curved surface made up of congruent heptagons. Unlike the usual two-dimensional plane, this structure makes the boundary increase exponentially with the distance from the center, and hence the displacement of a classical random walker increases linearly in time. The diffusion of a quantum particle put on the heptagonal lattice is also studied in the framework of the tight-binding model Hamiltonian, and we again find the linear diffusion like the classical random walk.     Intelligent tit-for-tat in the iterated prisoner's dilemma game

    We seek a route to the equilibrium where all the agents cooperate in the iterated prisoner's dilemma game on a two-dimensional plane, focusing on the role of tit-for-tat strategy. When a time horizon, within which a strategy can recall the past, is one time step, an equilibrium can be achieved as cooperating strategies dominate the whole population via proliferation of tit-for-tat. Extending the time horizon, we filter out poor strategies by simplified replicator dynamics and observe a similar evolutionary pattern to reach the cooperating equilibrium. In particular, the rise of a modified tit-for-tat strategy plays a central role, which implies how a robust strategy is adopted when provided with an enhanced memory capacity.Comment: 9 pages, 14 figure

    Electrical Loop for 433.92MHz Reader Antenna of RFID Systems

    A reader antenna for active RFID technology at 433.92MHz, used for cargo container security, is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of two layer radiating elements excited by a single probe simultaneously. An omnidirectional radiation pattern with φ-component of electric field is obtained by an electrical loop with uniform and in-phase current as the radiating source. Measured peak gain is 2.9dBi, and the average gain is 0.92dBi in x-y plane

    Although cumulative family name distributions in many countries exhibit power-law forms, there also exist counterexamples. The origin of different family name distributions across countries is discussed analytically in the framework of a population dynamics model. Combined with empirical observations made, it is suggested that those differences in distributions are closely related with the rate of appearance of new family names.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
