The BKB_K Kaon Parameter in the Chiral Limit

We introduce four-point functions in the hadronic ladder resummation approach to large NcN_c QCD Green functions. We determine the relevant one to calculate the BKB_K kaon parameter in the chiral limit. This four-point function contains both the large momenta QCD OPE and the small momenta ChPT at NLO limits, analytically. We get B^Kχ=0.38±0.15\hat B_K^\chi = 0.38 \pm 0.15. We also give the ChPT result at NLO for the relevant four-point function to calculate BKB_K outside the chiral limit, while the leading QCD OPE is the same as the chiral limit one.Comment: 17 page

    Misleading signatures of quantum chaos

The main signature of chaos in a quantum system is provided by spectral statistical analysis of the nearest neighbor spacing distribution and the spectral rigidity given by Δ3(L)\Delta_3(L). It is shown that some standard unfolding procedures, like local unfolding and Gaussian broadening, lead to a spurious increase of the spectral rigidity that spoils the Δ3(L)\Delta_3(L) relationship with the regular or chaotic motion of the system. This effect can also be misinterpreted as Berry's saturation.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Physical Review

Quantum mechanics emerges from information theory applied to causal horizons

It is suggested that quantum mechanics is not fundamental but emerges from classical information theory applied to causal horizons. The path integral quantization and quantum randomness can be derived by considering information loss of fields or particles crossing Rindler horizons for accelerating observers. This implies that information is one of the fundamental roots of all physical phenomena. The connection between this theory and Verlinde's entropic gravity theory is also investigated.Comment: REvtex4-1, 6pages, 2 figures, final versio

Existence of weak solutions for the generalized Navier-Stokes equations with damping

    Get PDF
In this work we consider the generalized Navier-Stokes equations with the presence of a damping term in the momentum equation. The problem studied here derives from the set of equations which govern isothermal flows of incompressible and homogeneous non-Newtonian fluids. For the generalized Navier-Stokes problem with damping, we prove the existence of weak solutions by using regularization techniques, the theory of monotone operators and compactness arguments together with the local decomposition of the pressure and the Lipschitz-truncation method. The existence result proved here holds for any and any sigma > 1, where q is the exponent of the diffusion term and sigma is the exponent which characterizes the damping term.MCTES, Portugal [SFRH/BSAB/1058/2010]; FCT, Portugal [PTDC/MAT/110613/2010]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Blockwise Key Distillation in Satellite-based Quantum Key Distribution

Free-space satellite communication has significantly lower photon loss than terrestrial communication via optical fibers. Satellite-based quantum key distribution (QKD) leverages this advantage and provides a promising direction in achieving long-distance inter-continental QKD. Satellite channels, however, can be highly dynamic due to various environmental factors and time-of-the-day effects, leading to heterogeneous noises over time. In this paper, we compare two key distillation techniques for satellite-based QKD. One is the traditional {\em non-blockwise} strategy that treats all the signals as a whole; the other is a {\em blockwise} strategy that divides the signals into individual blocks that have similar noise characteristics and processes them independently. Through extensive simulation in a wide range of settings, we show trends in optimal parameter choices and when one strategy provides better key generation rates than the other. Our results show that the blockwise strategy can lead to up to 5%5\% key rate improvement (leading to on average 1.9Ă—1071.9\times10^{7} more key bits per day) when considering two types of blocks, i.e., for nighttime and daytime, respectively. The blockwise strategy only requires changes in the classical post-processing stage of QKD and can be easily deployed in existing satellite systems

Axions and saxions from the primordial supersymmetric plasma and extra radiation signatures

We calculate the rate for thermal production of axions and saxions via scattering of quarks, gluons, squarks, and gluinos in the primordial supersymmetric plasma. Systematic field theoretical methods such as hard thermal loop resummation are applied to obtain a finite result in a gauge-invariant way that is consistent to leading order in the strong gauge coupling. We calculate the thermally produced yield and the decoupling temperature for both axions and saxions. For the generic case in which saxion decays into axions are possible, the emitted axions can constitute extra radiation already prior to big bang nucleosynthesis and well thereafter. We update associated limits imposed by recent studies of the primordial helium-4 abundance and by precision cosmology of the cosmic microwave background and large scale structure. We show that the trend towards extra radiation seen in those studies can be explained by late decays of thermal saxions into axions and that upcoming Planck results will probe supersymmetric axion models with unprecedented sensitivity.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures; v2: references added, minor clarifying additions, matches published versio

    Singular Cucker-Smale Dynamics

The existing state of the art for singular models of flocking is overviewed, starting from microscopic model of Cucker and Smale with singular communication weight, through its mesoscopic mean-filed limit, up to the corresponding macroscopic regime. For the microscopic Cucker-Smale (CS) model, the collision-avoidance phenomenon is discussed, also in the presence of bonding forces and the decentralized control. For the kinetic mean-field model, the existence of global-in-time measure-valued solutions, with a special emphasis on a weak atomic uniqueness of solutions is sketched. Ultimately, for the macroscopic singular model, the summary of the existence results for the Euler-type alignment system is provided, including existence of strong solutions on one-dimensional torus, and the extension of this result to higher dimensions upon restriction on the smallness of initial data. Additionally, the pressureless Navier-Stokes-type system corresponding to particular choice of alignment kernel is presented, and compared - analytically and numerically - to the porous medium equation
