The Characteristics of Effective Professional Development That Affect Teacher’s Self-Efficacy and Teaching Practice

Many research suggests that effective professional development (PD) can help teachers increase their knowledge, skills and understanding about teaching. Research evidence also indicates that good quality PD enhances teacher sense of efficacy. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of good quality PD that affect teachers’ self-efficacy from the perspective of junior secondary English Language teachers in Indonesia. Data derived from the initial and follow-up questionnaires, TSG observations, and semi-structured interviews. The findings found that English language teachers perceived good quality PD are those activities that increase teachers’ knowledge and teaching skills, encourages collaboration, and is based on teachers’ classroom practical needs. The study suggests the need to involve teachers in the process of planning, designing, and implementing PD in order to maximize its benefits

Pengembangan Kurikulum Berbasis Kebutuhan Peserta Didik dan Kehidupan Global dalam Konteks Indonesia

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendiskusikan pengembangan kurikulum berbasis kebutuhan peserta didik dan kehidupan global dalam konteks Indonesia. Salah satu aspek penting yang berkaitan dengan pelaksanaan pendidikan adalah pengembangan kurikulum. Kurikulum sebagai perangkat perencanaan dan sistem tentang tujuan, isi, materi dan metode yang digunakan pada proses belajar dan mengajar untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan mempunyai peran penting dalam pendidikan nasional. Kurikulum sebagai komponen pendidikan bersifat dinamis, selalu berubah seiring dengan waktu. Perubahan itu sangat penting seiring dengan perubahan masyarakat, kebutuhan siswa, dan perkembangan ilmu dan teknologi. The Effect of Professional Development on Indonesian EFL Teachers’ Self-Efficacy

This study aims to find out the relationship between teachers’ participation in professional development (PD) and changes in perceived levels of their self-efficacy in the areas of instructional strategy, classroom management, and student engagement. A mixed methods research was used in this study. The findings from this study revealed that there is a relationship between teachers’ participation in PD and changes in perceived levels of their self-efficacy. The findings also revealed that PD was perceived to bring about the greatest change in levels of all participants’ self-efficacy in the area of instructional strategy compared to classroom management and student engagement. The study suggests that one of the characteristics of good quality PD for junior secondary EFL teachers in Indonesia is the content should be based on teachers’ classroom practical needs

A growing body of research suggests that effective professional development (PD) can help teachers increase their knowledge, skills and understanding about teaching. Research evidence also indicates that good quality PD enhances teacher self-efficacy. However, there have been few studies that have investigated the relationship between teachers‟ participation in PD and changes in perceived levels of their self-efficacy. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of good quality PD from the perspective of junior secondary English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in Indonesia. It also aims to find out the relationship between teachers‟ participation in PD and teacher study groups (TSGs) and changes in perceived levels of their self-efficacy. A mixed methods research with a convergent parallel design involving four phases was used in this study. In the first and fourth phases, the initial and follow-up questionnaires were completed by 104 teachers in three districts. The questionnaires consisted of closed questions and open-ended questions. In the second phase, three observations were carried out in each of the three TSGs in the three districts. This focused on how teachers conducted TSG meetings. In the third phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 EFL teachers from three districts. The findings from this study revealed that the participants‟ perceptions of good quality PD seemed to be influenced by the Indonesian cultural context, educational system and policies, and teacher resources. The EFL teachers perceived good quality PD facilitates: increased teachers‟ knowledge and teaching skills, encourages collaboration, and is based on teachers‟ classroom practical needs. The study also revealed that there is a relationship between teachers‟ participation in PD, and TSGs, and changes in perceived levels of their self-efficacy. Of the three aspects of instructional strategy, classroom management, and student engagement, the EFL teachers made the greatest change of their self-efficacy in instructional strategy. However, the participants also saw the importance of having a good understanding of classroom management and student engagement, in addition to instructional strategy. The study suggests that good quality PD for junior secondary EFL teachers in Indonesia needs to give teachers time to talk and work collaboratively, and the content should be based on teachers‟ classroom practical needs. The study also suggests the need to involve teachers in the process of planning, designing, and implementing PD in order to maximize its benefits. Therefore PD, such as TSGs in Indonesia, should be expanded and encouraged by the Indonesian government

Desain dan Strategi Pelaksanaan Program Pelatihan untuk Capaian Hasil Maksimal

Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana perancangan dan implementasi program pelatihan berlangsung di dalam sebuah organisasi/institusi. Pelatihan disebut sebagai aktivitas terencana yang digunakan untuk mentransfer atau memodifikasi pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap melalui pengalaman belajar. Ada berbagai alasan yang mengharuskan seseorang/staf menjalani program pelatihan. Mereka perlu mempertahankan tingkat kompetensi, menanggapi tuntutan keadaan yang berubah dan menerapkan pendekatan dan teknologi baru. Kebijakan, prosedur, norma dan prinsip harus menjadi pertimbangan dalam merancang dan melaksanakan program pelatihan. Program pelatihan biasanya dimasukkan ke dalam kerangka kerja untuk meningkatkan working performance secara terus menerus. Mengubah dan meningkatkan praktik membutuhkan lingkungan yang kondusif untuk bekerja, sumber belajar yang sesuai dan penggunaan strategi implementasi yang tepat dan secara terus menerus. Konsep Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru Bahasa Inggris Melalui Kegiatan Diklat: Kajian Pustaka

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk: (1) memberikan gambaran tentang pengembangan pendekatan pendidikan dan latihan bahasa Inggris berbasis pengembangan diri; dan (2) memberikan gambaran tentang pengembangan pendekatan praktik pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berbasis pengembangan diri untuk mengembangkan kapasitas peserta diklat. Beberapa temuan menunjukkan bahwa diklat bahasa Inggris selama ini lebih menitikberatkan pada penguasaan bahasa dan pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Berdasar hal tersebut, dikembangkan pendekatan dengan fokus pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang mengarahkan pada optimalisasi pengembangan diri pribadi melalui tugas-tugas yang dilakukan. Kajian dalam tulisan ini dilakukan dengan studi pustaka secara komprehensif terhadap sejumlah referensi terkait dengan konsep diklat, konsep pengembangan diri, dan teori belajar. Kajian tentang konsep diklat menunjukkan bahwa desain dan konten diklat harus disesuaikan dengan perkembangan zaman yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir peserta diklat dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan yang dihadapi. Konsep pengembangan diri menunjukkan bahwa melalui praktik kebiasaan sehari-hari yang baik akan membuat kapasitas peserta diklat berkembang

Pengintegrasian Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi dan Dampaknya terhadap Pedagogi Guru: Kajian Pustaka

Meningkatkan sistim pengajaran dalam pendidikan merupakan isu krusial, terutama dalam era globalisasi. Pendekatan pedagogi tradisional dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran melibatkan aliran informasi yang terarah dari guru sebagai pusat informasi kepada siswa sebagai penerima informasi. Pendekatan tersebut secara khusus didasarkan pada materi pembelajaran yang ditentukan sebelumnya, durasi waktu yang tetap, serta tugas dan kriteria penilaian yang ditentukan oleh guru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Teknologi Informasi Komunikasi (TIK) yang tepat dapat mengkatalisasi perubahan paradigmatik baik dalam konten maupun pedagogi yang merupakan jantung reformasi pendidikan di abad ke-21, dan mempromosikan pembelajaran berbasis masalah. Maximizing Learning Potential: Unravelling the Synergy of Blended Learning and Student’s Learning Motivation and Achievement

Blended learning has been emerging as one of the most popular learning methods used Post Covid -19. Blended learning is the learning process that integrates face-to-face learning and online learning. This article aims to investigate the dynamic relationship between blended learning and students' learning motivation and achievement in English language subject. The participants were 150 11th grade students from two junior high schools in Polman district who had experienced in using blended learning. This study used mixed methods by employing two research tools, namely questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The research findings suggest a highly positive relationship between blended learning and student learning motivation and learning achievement.  some key factors within blended learning environments that contribute to enhancing their motivation. These factors include the flexibility and adaptability of blended learning designs. The study results also showed the dynamic relationship between students’ learning motivation and their engagement and achievement in learning. The study results contribute to the dissemination of information to educational stakeholders and academic forums for teachers as input of considering the implementation of blended learning an instruction fit in the current educational settings
