A global dataset of CO2 emissions and ancillary data related to emissions for 343 cities

    Get PDF
International audienceWe present a global dataset of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions for 343 cities. The dataset builds upon data from CDP (187 cities, few in developing countries), the Bonn Center for Local Climate Action and Reporting (73 cities, mainly in developing countries), and data collected by Peking University (83 cities in China). The CDP data being self-reported by cities, we applied quality control procedures, documented the type of emissions and reporting method used, and made a correction to separate CO 2 emissions from those of other greenhouse gases. Further, a set of ancillary data that have a direct or potentially indirect impact on CO 2 emissions were collected from other datasets (e.g. socioeconomic and traffic indices) or calculated (climate indices, urban area expansion), then combined with the emission data. We applied several quality controls and validation comparisons with independent datasets. The dataset presented here is not intended to be comprehensive or a representative sample of cities in general, as the choice of cities is based on self-reporting not a designed sampling procedure

A dataset of dimensions 343 × 179 consisting of CO2 emissions from CDP (187 cities, few in developing countries), the Bonn Center for Local Climate Action and Reporting (73 cities, mainly in developing countries), and data collected by Peking University (83 cities in China). Further, a set of socio-economic variables – called ancillary data – were collected from other datasets (e.g. socio-economic and traffic indices) or calculated (climate indices, urban area expansion), then combined with the emission data. The remaining attributes are descriptive (e.g. city name, country, etc.) or related to quality assurance/control checks. Please open using Tab as separator and " as text delimiter

Exactly one year following its establishment, the Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change (BACCC) has published the Annual Report on Year One to review its first year of operations and key contributions to Bristol’s response to the climate emergency. This report captures BACCC’s key activities to date, its conclusions on the One City Climate Strategy and the evidence base that has been used in the development of the strategy, as well as recommendations for future work. The BACCC celebrates the level of the city’s climate ambitions and looks forward to playing a continued and supportive role – working closely with One City thematic boards, Bristol City Council and other agencies – as the city begins to translate strategy into detailed action and delivery plans. The BACCC has identified its priority areas for the next year as:To work closely with the National Committee on Climate Change and other key agencies – to understand and contextualise key developments for Bristol and exchange insights and learnings from Bristol. To increase the focus on climate risk and adaptation needs. To monitor progress of delivery of the One City Climate Strategy. To support local Climate Emergency communication and engagement activity
