CHEMICAL FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS OF FOUR PLUM (PRUNUS DOMESTICA L.) CULTIVARS

    Get PDF
Plums are among the most consumed fruits in Romania, being a good source of health promoting compounds. The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical fruit characteristics in four plum cultivars. Soluble solids content, reducing and total sugars, acidity and ascorbic acid content were determined. High phytochemicals content was reported for all investigated cultivars. The obtained results show that studied chemical indices vary depending on the analyzed cultivar. The highest soluble solid content (17.08%) and reducing sugars content (4.83%) have been observed in Tuleu gras cultivar. The obtained results recommend all analyzed plum cultivars as having high nutritional qualities

CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ERP SYSTEMS WITHIN THE ACTUAL ECONOMICAL-FINANCIAL CRISIS

    Get PDF
The aim of the ERP systems is to improve the activities that belong to the stage between acquiring an order from a client and issuing the invoice for that order and also the payment. The actual financial crisis, initially started in the USA as a subprime crisis, tends to be transformed in one of the most powerful economical crisis that was known in the last ten years, and some of the analysts predict that this crisis is even worse than the one that took place in the ’30 years. In these conditions, seems to be very natural for all the companies to look up for surviving solutions during this period, and one of the most popular methods to fight against the negative effects of the crisis applied by all the companies is the cost reduction. We may consider also that such a period could represent in the same time an opportunity for the companies to reconsider the business processes and repositioned in the actual context of the market, and for this a considerable help could be the implementation of an ERP systemERP, subprime crisis, business processes, company reorganization, IT system implementation

Antioxidant activity and total phenol content of some selected cereals

    Get PDF
Thirteen cereal varieties were evaluated for their DPPH radical, ABTS radical cationscavenging activity and free phenolic content. All investigated cereal exhibited significant antioxidant activities and contained significant levels of phenolic compounds. Based on the results obtained from this study, it is recommended whole grain products in the diet as a source of phenols and antioxidants

VARIATION OF CHLOROPHYLLS AND OSMOLYTES CONTENT IN THREE CULTIVARS OF WHEAT UNDER DROUGHT STRESS

    Get PDF
Drought is one of the environmental factors that adversely affect the growth and productivity of plants. Plants adapt their metabolism by developing various defensive mechanisms to survive unfavorable conditions. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of water stress (50% field capacity) on photosynthetic pigments, protein, soluble sugars, amino acids and proline content in leaves of three varieties of wheat (Dropia, Alex and Boema). The results show that the contents of soluble sugars, amino acids, total carotenoids and proline increase with decreasing water content in soil while the content in chlorophyll and protein decreases in all studied genotypes. The results suggest that the investigated biochemical indices play an active role in regulating osmotic pressure, an important mechanism in plant tolerance to drought stress

INFLUENCE OF LATE BLIGHT (PHYTOPHTHORA INFESTANS) ATTACK ON NUTRITIONAL QUALITY OF TOMATO

    Get PDF
The effect of natural infection with Late Blight (Phytophthora infestrans) on chemical fruit quality on six tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) varieties (Menhir F1, Lady Rosa F1, Kilates F1, Anthalia F1, Prekos F1, Vanessa F1) was investigated in a field trial. Plants were exposed to stress produced by natural infection with P.infestans and biochemical quality parameters were analyzed as well as antioxidant activities for both treated and untreated variants. P.infestans attack on tomato was associated with lower total soluble solids and sugar content and an increased acidity. There was no significant correlation between lycopen content and pathogen attack. Antioxidant activity reflected by PPH radical scavenging activity and ABTS radical cation scavenging activity increased in case of pathogen`s attack

EVALUATION OF THE BIOCHEMICAL ASPECTS OF DROUGHT TOLERANT NEW WHEAT LINES DURING SEEDLING AND EARLY GROWTH STAGES

    Get PDF
21 wheat lines were investigated in the study, as well as 4 standard cultivars in order to evaluate biochemical indices that characterize the processes of growth and development of plants under drought conditions. The experiment was conducted at ARDS Simnic. Enzymatic activities of amylase, protease and phosphatase, reducing sugar, protein and proline content were determined at plant emergence and tillering stage. The obtained results indicate that all the investigated wheat lines are adapted to the ARDS Simnic conditions, thus recommending further testing for their selection in breding programs

COMPARATIVE INVESTIGATIONS OF SEED STORAGE PROTEINS FROM NEW WHEAT LINES

The objective of the present study was to determine the wheat grain protein fractions of twelve wheat lines, in characterizing their breadmaking quality. For this purpose we follow protein and starch content, sedimentation test Zeleny, selective extraction of gliadine and glutenine and electrophoretic preotein pattern. The high molecular weight glutenin subunits was identified by SDS-PAGE The obtained results recommend all analyzed wheat new lines as having a good breadmaking quality
