The current analytical perspectives on the sexual networking, specifically in the context of  differential sexuality risk committal of mobile groups in their various destinations appear rather narrow. Specifically, it has to a large extent omitted what the geo-transportation perspective analysis of that concept stands to offer both theory and intervention on sexual behaviour of mobile population groups. To exemplify its position, this paper employed the risky sexuality data of Lagos-based international traders to explore the geo-transport perspective of the network concept in order to demonstrate its analytical utility.  It examined the extent to which traders’ act of engaging sexual partners at destinations varies among the regions of visit. It went further, using the sequential order of traders’ trips to explore some novel but useful analyses on risky sexuality, including the monitoring and intervention potentials inherent in the matrix depiction of sexuality risk statistics of internationally mobile population groups. This paper compares sexuality risk variables and the logit models of itinerantly differentiated tradesmen groups in Lagos Nigeria. The study, using survey design, compared the groups’ biosocial characteristics and then their sexuality risk variables in two ways. First, it compared their relative vulnerabilities to sexually transmitted infections, using selected ‘life-time’ and recent sexuality parameters. Second, it examined the degree of similarity between the groups’ sexuality risk models. Findings show significant bio-social contrasts between the two groups. While circulators showed greater multi-partnership risk, the non-circulators exceeded marginally on commercial sexuality. Condom-use risk was undifferentiating. Also, the variables in their respective parsimonious risk models showed minimal contrast. The findings among others underscore the relevance of HIV/AIDS sufferers as campaign persons and canvassed for greater emphasis on family life programmes, given the riskier sexuality disposition of married tradesmen, regardless of circulation status.Résumé Cet article compare les variables de risques de la sexualité avec les modèles de la régression logistique de groupes des commerçants se distinguant par itinéraire à Lagos, Nigéria.

Information-field differentials and HIV/AIDS notional inclinations of mobility-differentiated population groups: clues from a Lagos study

Abstract This paper aims at filling identified perspective-cum-analytical-framework gap on sexuality-risk analysis between mobile and immobile population groups. It originated from a multi-dimensional study on itinerancy-cum-sexuality-risk study on Lagos, Nigeria, which employed stratified random sampling. It compared the subscription levels of two mobility-differentiated trader-groups to local sexuality-risk notions given their assumed theoretically-differentiated information-fields. The first analysis compared the study populations’ HIV/AIDS’ awareness-duration profiles, as well as their risky-sexuality-condoning notional inclinations. Thereafter, it contrasted their categorized hearsays and notions. Further analyses compute and compare their respective notional-transition scores before examining how HIV/ AIDS’ awareness-duration associate with current notional stances. Among other findings, the mobile group exhibit earlier access to HIV/AIDS information, but differs in the degree to which the time-awareness advantage stimulates them towards health-conducing/safe-sexuality notions. Discussion of policy-cumresearch findings followed.

Risky Sexual Transactions across Global Regions: Patterns and Clues from a Lagos-Based Study

Based on the premises that the dominant analytical orientation of research on mobility–related sexuality isgrossly inadequate and the incessant calls for innovative and responsive research and methodological design toaddress the issue, this paper explores certain gaps in the risk-sexuality inclinations of a Lagos-based group ofcirculatory traders. Employing relevant circulatory-cum- sexuality data of the study group, acquired by acombination of purposive and stratified random sampling designs, the paper employed a set-theoretic approachto the study population along a novel ‘origin-destination’ by ‘risky-cum-riskless’ sexuality profile. The study compared the levels and dynamics in the committal of three specific risk-sexuality variables. It wentfurther to examine how the study population is structured in the context of the devised ‘origin-destination’ by‘risk-riskless-sexuality’ grouping. Further, it also examined how the pattern differentiated the categorizedregional destinations, in terms of the risk-designation status of their visitors. The study among others discoveredthe tendency for greater intensity of risky-sexuality locally than at external destinations; a modal percentage of‘origin-destination’ riskless group, but characterised by the least mobility rate, and also a small size ‘origindestination’risky subgroup, but which has the greatest spatial mobility rate. The paper finally explores theresearch and intervention clues of its findings. Keywords: Sexuality-Risk, mobile population, disaggregated analysis, intervention

Youths Awareness and Visit Patterns to Recreation-Cum-Tourists Destinations in Lagos State, Nigeria

Determined to galvanise her tourism sector, the Nigerian government publicised the nation’s Tourism Master Plan in 2005, which among others, highlighted the near-crisis state of tourism infrastructure compounded by a rather negligible affinity for domestic tourism. Governments’ response to highlighted challenges reflects their partial understanding. It has dwelt primarily on overhauling and provision of newer infrastructure, without due attention to domestic leisure-consumption attitudinal reorientation, arguably the most potent driver of domestic tourism. Persuaded nevertheless, that the starting point towards achieving leisure-habit reorientation is the documentation of current tourism attitudinal inclinations, this paper analyzes the pattern of youths’ awareness and patronage of recreation/tourism destinations in Lagos State. It combines purposive and stratified sampling designs to generate school-based adolescents who answered questions on awareness and patronage of existing tourism destinations, using a multidimensional questionnaire. Findings, among others, show marginal differences in the contrasted socio-demographic attributes between genders; marginal differences in their awareness and patronage of existing tourism destinations and also, in the relevance of hypothesised variables selected to explain variations in the patterns of awareness and patronage of tourism destinations. The study then examined the intervention implications of its findings and the need for further research in the context of tourism-demand segmentation. Assessment of Maternal Health Intervention Programme of Delta State, Nigeria: Application of the U.N Process Indicators

Arguing from the standpoint that maternal mortality ratio (MMR) alone does not constitute a sufficient indicator for assessing the performance of a maternal health intervention, the paper calls for a multi-dimensional approach. Employing such an approach and utilizing mainly secondary data, the paper examined the performance of the Delta State’s maternal-health intervention programme which commenced in 2007; cautiously comparing its pre- and since-intervention eras.  Among others, it discovered that the raw statistical values tend to give an impression that the period prior to intervention witnessed far better maternal health conditions than the period since-intervention. The paper explains the apparent contradiction before comparing the extent to which various results achieved by the intervention programme compares with the specified indicators of the UN in pursuant of Millennium Development Goal No5. It concluded by recommending necessary research and complimenting policy that would ensure that the intervention achieve the desired purpose. Risky-Sexuality and the Perceptual Assessment of the Intervention Constituencies: A gender Analysis of Lagos’ School-based Adolescents

    No full text
The inadequacies of the typical study designs and the parameters employed in the performance-assessment of adolescents’ sexual-behavioural interventions in the context of HIV/AIDS, provoked this study. It examines risky-sexuality of gender-categorized adolescents; their access to intervention actors and relevance-ascription to existing interventions, classified by originating constituencies. Using a questionnaire administered by purposive-cum-random sampling techniques to final-year Senior Secondary School students, in Lagos, Nigeria, it collected information on parental backgrounds; personal sexuality attributes; exposure to agents-cum-instruments of sexual behavioural re-orientation; and personal assessment of benefitted interventions from the specified constituencies. Findings indicate that both genders which converge appreciably on some personal/parental attributes, contrast on risky-sexuality attributes, and in their relative exposure to constituency-differentiated interventions. Statistical hypothesis shows both genders contrasting on relevance-ascription to intervention constituencies. The study conclusively canvassed for improvement in male-intervention attention, including extending the current analytical-purview to include correlate-analysis of relevance-ascription, and other concerns that broaden intervention-researches’ usefulnes
