[Review of] T. M. Singelis, ed. Teaching about Culture, Ethnicity, and Diversity: Exercises and Planned Activities
Professors and students of teacher education can always appreciate theoretical discussions of multicultural education in books and journal articles. Even more useful are concrete examples such as the multicultural lesson plans in Sleeter\u27s Turning on Learning (1998) and the case studiesin Nieto\u27s Affirming Diversity (2000). Teacher-credential students find the lesson plans illustrative and relate to the students\u27 stories in the case studies. Singelis\u27 book Teaching about Culture, Ethnicity, and Diversity goes a step further in providing professors and students with experiences and hands-on activities that should help to enhance the sensitivity of teacher-credential students towards cross-cultural differences and help them to work towards equity and equality
Finite size corrections to the blackbody radiation laws
We investigate the radiation of a blackbody in a cavity of finite size. For a
given geometry, we use semiclassical techniques to obtain explicit expressions
of the modified Planck's and Stefan-Boltzmann's blackbody radiation laws as a
function of the size and shape of the cavity. We determine the range of
parameters (temperature, size and shape of the cavity) for which these effects
are accessible to experimental verification. Finally we discuss potential
applications of our findings in the physics of the cosmic microwave background
and sonoluminescence.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, journal versio
THE FINANCIAL POLICY AND STRATEGY INSIDE THE ROMANIAN ECONOMIC ENTITIES
The total level of the financial resources and the company’s financial power, the capital’s cost as related to the average one on branch and to the competitors, the available capital’s structure and flexibility, the company’s profitability, the liquidity, the debt level, the financial planning quality, the working capital’s level and the efficiency of using it, the budget procedures’ quality, the accounting system’s quality, the level of control procedures and internal audit are only some of the factors that the management has to consider in order to provide the company’s competitiveness on the market. Certainly, the financial forecasting does not avoid for irritable surprises to bring about real crises. Still, the advantage of the financial projection basically consists of determining the managers to take into consideration the possible deviations from the anticipated objectives. From this perspective, the paper captures some essential aspects regarding the financial policy and strategy, focusing on the conducted investigation type study through which we wanted to capture the managers’ opinions regarding the financial forecasting, as well as the level in which financial policies and strategies are being elaborated inside the Romanian companies.forecasting, financial policy, financial strategy, projection, management
STUDY ON THE ACCOUNTANCY OF OPERATIONS OF RECEIPTS AND PAYMENTS WITHIN THE ECONOMIC ENTITY
Given the importance of money, their rational organisation is an essential goal of accountancy in this area. This objective consists of providing the permanent financial balance and a rational efficiency of the entire activity, which can be achieved through a complex of activities and instruments, such as: activity programmes and budgets of income and expenses, expressed in money for all their sectors, but more especially through a permanent and systematic tracking of economic-financial activities. The paper presents some theoretical aspects regarding the concept of treasury and afterwards it focuses on the synthetic presentation of the main accounts used in their accountancy. A more detailed presentation is limited to an accounting monograph of operations of receipts and payments within an economic entity.treasury, accountancy, accounting note, receipt, payment
Attribution Required: Stack Overflow Code Snippets in GitHub Projects
Stack Overflow (SO) is the largest Q&A website for developers, providing a
huge amount of copyable code snippets. Using these snippets raises various
maintenance and legal issues. The SO license requires attribution, i.e.,
referencing the original question or answer, and requires derived work to adopt
a compatible license. While there is a heated debate on SO's license model for
code snippets and the required attribution, little is known about the extent to
which snippets are copied from SO without proper attribution. In this paper, we
present the research design and summarized results of an empirical study
analyzing attributed and unattributed usages of SO code snippets in GitHub
projects. On average, 3.22% of all analyzed repositories and 7.33% of the
popular ones contained a reference to SO. Further, we found that developers
rather refer to the whole thread on SO than to a specific answer. For Java, at
least two thirds of the copied snippets were not attributed.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, Proceedings of the 39th International Conference
