Optical orientation and alignment of excitons in ensembles of inorganic perovskite nanocrystals
We demonstrate the optical orientation and alignment of excitons in a
two-dimensional layer of CsPbI perovskite nanocrystals prepared by
colloidal synthesis and measure the anisotropic exchange splitting of exciton
levels in the nanocrystals. From the experimental data at low temperature (2K),
we obtain the average value of anisotropic splitting of bright exciton states
of the order of 120{\mu}eV. Our calculations demonstrate that there is a
significant contribution to the splitting due to the nanocrystal shape
anisotropy for all inorganic perovskite nanocrystrals.Comment: 10 page
Detection of Apoptosis in Cancer Cells Using Heat Shock Protein 70 and p53 Antibody Conjugated Quantum Dot Nanoparticles
Clinical experience indicates that enhanced level of heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) and p53 correlates with poor prognosis due to malignant cell overexpression of these proteins in tumor progression. Cadmium selenide quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized in aqueous solution using mercaptopropionic acid and L-cysteine (L-Cys) as ligands. They were conjugated with a monoclonal antibody (Ab) to p53 and cmHp70.1 to Hsp70 for detection of cancer cell apoptosis that was demonstrated in the experiment by fluorescent confocal microscopy both for breast carcinoma cells and for thyroid tissue. It is shown that in comparison with organic dyes, quantum dots have superior photostability of tracking apoptosis in cancer cells for longer time

Thermal radiation shielding by nanoporous membranes based on anodic alumina
The paper is devoted to infrared thermography studies of nanoporous alumina membranes with various geometric parameters of the porous layer: its thickness and average pore diameter. Thermal radiation shielding by anodic alumina membranes is presented. The result obtained showed that nanoporous alumina membranes can be used as heat shields to smooth contrast of thermal radiation of the object and the surrounding background
Role of Hydrogen in Ethylene-Based Synthesis of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes
We examined the effect of hydrogen on the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes in the aerosol (a specific case of the floating catalyst) chemical vapor deposition process using ethylene as a carbon source and ferrocene as a precursor for a Fe-based catalyst. With a comprehensive set of physical methods (UV-vis-NIR and Raman spectroscopies, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, differential mobility analysis, and four-probe sheet resistance measurements), we showed hydrogen to inhibit ethylene pyrolysis extending the window of synthesis parameters. Moreover, the detailed study at different temperatures allowed us to distinguish three different regimes for the hydrogen effect: pyrolysis suppression at low concentrations (I) followed by surface cleaning/activation promotion (II), and surface blockage/nanotube etching (III) at the highest concentrations. We believe that such a detailed study will help to reveal the complex role of hydrogen and contribute toward the synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes with detailed characteristics
