Phytochemical study and antibacterial activity evaluation of Lepechinia bullata (Kunth) Epling leaves
as 3-acetyl-methyl ursolate) were obtained from
the leaves of Lepechinia bullata (Kunth) Epling by hexane and acetone extractions respectively.
Additionally, by semisynthetic reactions from these
products 11,12-diacetyl-carnosol and methyl ursolate
were obtained. Structures were determined by
spectroscopic analysis, including 1D- and 2D-NMR
techniques. Carnosol and 3-acetyl-methyl ursolate
showed activity against Staphylococcus aureus
(ATCC 25923) a minimum inhibitory concentration
(MIC) of 10 μg/mL, however 11,12-diacetyl-carnosol
was not active against the bacteria tested. Methyl
ursolate showed activity against Bacillus subtilis
(ATCC 19433), S. aureus (ATCC 25923) and
Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 19433), with an MIC
of 10 μg/mL, 10 μg/mL and 100 μg/mL respectively.
This is the first report for these compounds in L.
