Phenomenological Lambda-Nuclear Interactions
Variational Monte Carlo calculations for (ground and
excited states) and are performed to decipher information on
-nuclear interactions. Appropriate operatorial nuclear and
-nuclear correlations have been incorporated to minimize the
expectation values of the energies. We use the Argonne two-body
NN along with the Urbana IX three-body NNN interactions. The study demonstrates
that a large part of the splitting energy in () is
due to the three-body NN forces. hypernucleus is
analyzed using the {\it s}-shell results. binding to nuclear matter
is calculated within the variational framework using the
Fermi-Hypernetted-Chain technique. There is a need to correctly incorporate the
three-body NN correlations for binding to nuclear matter.Comment: 18 pages (TeX), 2 figure
Effects of Phosphorus Fertilizer Application on Verano Stylo (\u3cem\u3eStylosanthes Hamata\u3c/em\u3e) for Fodder Production in Semi-Arid Nigeria
Profitable ruminant livestock production in Nigeria is often constrained by an inadequate. Although natural grazing lands provide most forage for most animals, these pastures like those throughout most of the tropical world, are grossly deficient in energy, crude protein and minerals, particularly during the dry season, and so cannot meet the requirements for meat and milk production (Akinolai et al. 2010). Sown pastures have proved to a valuable technology to improve livestock nutrition. However, a major limitation to the use of sown tropical species is infertile soil. This is certainly the case in the north western region of Nigeria where soils are very low in the phosphorus (P) content available to plants (Ezekiel and Gabriel 2006). Sakaba (2011) also reported very low available phosphorus content (\u3c 5 ppm) in the soil of the study area in Sokoto. Possible reasons for the low P status include: low pH value, excessive degradation caused by overgrazing and the effects of desertification. This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of Verano under different P fertilizer levels in the semi-arid ecosystem of northwestern Nigeria
Variational calculations of the -seperation energy of the O hypernucleus
Variational Monte Carlo calculations have been made for the O hypernucleus using realistic two- and three-baryon
interactions. A two pion exchange potential with spin- and space-exchange
components is used for the N potential. Three-body two-pion exchange
and strongly repulsive dispersive NN interactions are also included.
The trial wave function is constructed from pair- and triplet-correlation
operators acting on a single particle determinant. These operators consist of
central, spin, isospin, tensor and three- baryon potential components. A
cluster Monte Carlo method is developed for noncentral correlations and is used
with up to four-baryon clusters in our calculations. The three-baryon

Neurological complications in patients with plasmodium vivax malaria from Karachi, Pakistan
Background: Malaria remains an endemic disease in Pakistan with an estimated healthcare burden of 1.6 million cases annually, with Plasmodium vivax accounting for 67% of reported cases. P. vivax is the most common species causing malaria outside of Africa, with approximately 13.8 million reported cases worldwide. Method: We report a series of P. vivax cases with cerebral involvement that presented at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan. Results: The majority of the patients presented with high-grade fever accompanied by projectile vomiting and abnormal behaviour, seizures, shock and unconsciousness. Seven of 801 patients with P. vivax monoinfection presented or developed cerebral complications. P. vivax infections were diagnosed based on peripheral smears and rapid diagnostic testing. Conclusion: P. vivax infection can lead to severe complications, although not with the frequency of Plasmodium falciparum infection. Current cases highlight an increasing trend of cerebral complications caused by P. vivax
Glauber theory of initial- and final-state interactions in (p,2p) scattering
We develop the Glauber theory description of initial- and final-state
interactions (IFSI) in quasielastic A(p,2p) scattering. We study the
IFSI-distortion effects both for the inclusive and exclusive conditions. In
inclusive reaction the important new effect is an interaction between the two
sets of the trajectories which enter the calculation of IFSI-distorted one-body
density matrix for inclusive (p,2p) scattering and are connected with
incoherent elastic rescatterings of the initial and final protons on spectator
nucleons. We demonstrate that IFSI-distortions of the missing momentum
distribution are large over the whole range of missing momentum both for
inclusive and exclusive reactions and affect in a crucial way the
interpretation of the BNL data on (p,2p) scattering. Our numerical results show
that in the region of missing momentum p_{m}\lsim 100-150 MeV/c the
incoherent IFSI increase nuclear transparency by 5-10\%. The incoherent IFSI
