Heat conduction in one dimensional systems: Fourier law, chaos, and heat control

In this paper we give a brief review of the relation between microscopic dynamical properties and the Fourier law of heat conduction as well as the connection between anomalous conduction and anomalous diffusion. We then discuss the possibility to control the heat flow.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures. Elliptic flow in heavy ion collisions near the balance energy

The proton elliptic flow in collisions of Ca on Ca at energies from 30 to 100 MeV/nucleon is studied in an isospin-dependent transport model. With increasing incident energy, the elliptic flow shows a transition from positive to negative flow. Its magnitude depends on both the nuclear equation of state (EOS) and the nucleon-nucleon scattering cross section. Different elliptic flows are obtained for a stiff EOS with free nucleon-nucleon cross sections and a soft EOS with reduced nucleon-nucleon cross sections, although both lead to vanishing in-plane transverse flow at the same balance energy. The study of both in-plane and elliptic flows at intermediate energies thus provides a means to extract simultaneously the information on the nuclear equation of state and the nucleon-nucleon scattering cross section in medium.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure

Parameter estimates for fractional autoregressive spatial processes

A binomial-type operator on a stationary Gaussian process is introduced in order to model long memory in the spatial context. Consistent estimators of model parameters are demonstrated. In particular, it is shown that d^Nd=OP((LogN)3N)\hat{d}_N-d=O_P(\frac{(\operatorname {Log}N)^3}{N}), where d=(d1,d2)d=(d_1,d_2) denotes the long memory parameter.Comment: Published at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/009053605000000589 in the Annals of Statistics (http://www.imstat.org/aos/) by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (http://www.imstat.org

The missing-measurement phenomenon is assumed to occur in a random way, and the missing probability is time-varying with securable upper and lower bounds that can be measured in real time. The multiplicative noise is a state-dependent scalar Gaussian white-noise sequence with known variance. The addressed gain-scheduled filtering problem is concerned with the design of a filter such that, for the admissible random missing measurements, nonlinear parameters, and external noise disturbances, the error dynamics is exponentially mean-square stable. The desired filter is equipped with time-varying gains based primarily on the time-varying missing probability and is therefore less conservative than the traditional filter with fixed gains. It is shown that the filter parameters can be derived in terms of the measurable probability via the semidefinite program method. This work was supported in part by the Leverhulme Trust of the U.K., the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant GR/S27658/01, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008, 61074016 and 60974030, the Shanghai Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 10ZR1421200, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

Electronic structure and superconductivity of BiS2-based compounds LaO1-xFxBiS2

Using the density-functional perturbation theory with structural optimization, we investigate the electronic structure, phonon spectra, and superconductivity of BiS2-based layered compounds LaO1-xFxBiS2. For LaO0.5F0.5BiS2, the calculated electron-phonon coupling constant is equal to lambda = 0.8, and obtained Tc = 9.1 K is very close to its experimental value, indicating that it is a conventional electron-phonon superconductor

Ground Band and a Generalized GP-equation for Spinor Bose-Einstein Condensates

For the spinor Bose-Einstein condensates both the total spin SS and its Z-component SZS_{Z} should be conserved. However, in existing theories, only the conservation of SzS_{z} has been taken into account. To remedy, this paper is the first attempt to take the conservation of both % S and SZS_{Z} into account. For this purpose, a total spin-state with the good quantum numbers SS and SZS_{Z} is introduced in the trial wave function, thereby a generalized Gross-Pitaevskii equation has been derived. With this new equation, the ground bands of the 23^{23}Na and % ^{87}Rb condensates have been studied, where the levels distinct in SS split. It was found that the level density is extremely dense in the bottom of the ground band of 23^{23}Na, i.e., in the vicinity of the ground state. On the contrary, for 87^{87}Rb, the levels are extremely dense in the top of the ground band,Comment: 7 page, 5 figure
