Momentum space tomographic imaging of photoelectrons
We apply tomography, a general method for reconstructing 3-D distributions
from multiple projections, to reconstruct the momentum distribution of
electrons produced via strong field photoionization. The projections are
obtained by rotating the electron distribution via the polarization of the
ionizing laser beam and recording a momentum spectrum at each angle with a 2-D
velocity map imaging spectrometer. For linearly polarized light the tomographic
reconstruction agrees with the distribution obtained using an Abel inversion.
Electron tomography, which can be applied to any polarization, will simplify
the technology of electron imaging. The method can be directly generalized to

Alignment dependent enhancement of the photo-electron cutoff for multi-photon ionization of molecules
The multiphoton ionization rate of molecules depends on the alignment of the
molecular axis with respect to the ionizing laser polarization. By studying
molecular frame photo-electron angular distributions from N, O and
benzene, we illustrate how the angle-dependent ionization rate affects the
photo-electron cutoff energy. We find alignment can enhance the high energy
cutoff of the photo-electron spectrum when probing along a nodal plane or when
ionization is otherwise suppressed. This is supported by calculations using a
tunneling model with a single ion state.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
French consumer preferences reveal a potential for segmentation in carrot
Gustatory differentiation is one possible means of segmentation. Consumer preferences of carrot were studied within the framework of the CosiVeg project. The characteristics of batches offered for consumer assessment enables their preferences to be evaluated. In preparation for a hedonic test of raw grated carrots that was carried out in autumn 2011, the carrot sensory space was studied in 2010 using 48 batches that were evaluated using quantative descriptive sensory analysis. The cultivars were representative of different types, Nantais, Imperator, Flakkee, coloured carrots and genetic resources. . Significant differences were observed for all criteria, allowing varieties to be grouped based on their sensory characteristics. Texture, flavor and aroma contribute to the “identity” of carrots. Overall aroma is correlated with perceptions of bitterness, sharpness and chemical aroma. Fourteen orange carrot varieties were selected for sowing in 2011. In 2010, although maximum scores were obtained for pungent and bitter attributes, this was not the case in 2011. In spite of this, the selected batches allowed the different profiles of the sensory characteristics of the carrots to be determined. Ten batches of carrot that represented a wide range of variability were tasted by a trained panel as well as a consumer panel; the product was presented as raw grated carrot. The sensory measurements obtained were used to map preferences, underlining preferences for a carrot that is juicy, aromatic and sweet. However bitter and chemical flavour carrots were not appreciated. Three types of consumer exist each having different expectations in terms of quality. Almost 20 % of people questioned are looking for a high quality product, for 33 % of consumers carrots are a staple food and they have no specific expectations and 48 % are satisfied with the current product but are potentially interested by a product that would distinguish itself as regards to quality. Cet article présente les différentes étapes de mise en place d\u27une liste de descripteurs appliquée à la carotte. La carotte étant un produit consommé cru ou cuit et sous différentes formes, trois modes d\u27usage (carotte crue râpée, cuite entière, crue en rondelle...) vont être comparés, afin de déterminer quel est l\u27apport de chacune des méthodes dans la description du produit
A computational model of the hypothalamic - pituitary - gonadal axis in female fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) exposed to 17α-ethynylestradiol and 17β-trenbolone

any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.Background - Endocrine disrupting chemicals (e.g., estrogens, androgens and their mimics) are known to affect reproduction in fish. 17α-ethynylestradiol is a synthetic estrogen used in birth control pills. 17β-trenbolone is a relatively stable metabolite of trenbolone acetate, a synthetic androgen used as a growth promoter in livestock. Both 17α-ethynylestradiol and 17β-trenbolone have been found in the aquatic environment and affect fish reproduction. In this study, we developed a physiologically-based computational model for female fathead minnows (FHM, Pimephales promelas), a small fish species used in ecotoxicology, to simulate how estrogens (i.e., 17α-ethynylestradiol) or androgens (i.e., 17β-trenbolone) affect reproductive endpoints such as plasma concentrations of steroid hormones (e.g., 17β-estradiol and testosterone) and vitellogenin (a precursor to egg yolk proteins).
Results - Using Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations, the model was calibrated with data from unexposed, 17α-ethynylestradiol-exposed, and 17β-trenbolone-exposed FHMs. Four Markov chains were simulated, and the chains for each calibrated model parameter (26 in total) converged within 20,000 iterations. With the converged parameter values, we evaluated the model's predictive ability by simulating a variety of independent experimental data. The model predictions agreed with the experimental data well.
Conclusions - The physiologically-based computational model represents the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in adult female FHM robustly. The model is useful to estimate how estrogens (e.g., 17α-ethynylestradiol) or androgens (e.g., 17β-trenbolone) affect plasma concentrations of 17β-estradiol, testosterone and vitellogenin, which are important determinants of fecundity in fish.The Medical Research Foundation of Oregon, U.S. Environmental Protection

The Delphi and GRADE methodology used in the PSOGI 2018 consensus statement on Pseudomyxoma Peritonei and Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) and Peritoneal Mesothelioma (PM) are both rare peritoneal malignancies. Currently, affected patients may be treated with Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy offering long-term survival or even cure in selected patients. However, many issues regarding the optimal treatment strategy are currently under debate. To aid physicians involved in the treatment of these patients in clinical decision making, the PSOGI executive committee proposed to create a consensus statement on PMP and PM. This manuscript describes the methodology of the consensus process. The Delphi technique is a reliable method for attaining consensus on a topic that lacks scientific evidence through multiple voting rounds which feeds back responses to the participants in between rounds. The GRADE system provides a structured framework for presenting and grading the available evidence. Separate questionnaires were created for PMP and PM and sent during two voting rounds to 80 and 38 experts, respectively. A consensus threshold of 51.0% was chosen. After the second round, consensus was reached on 92.9%–100.0% of the questions. The results were presented and discussed in the plenary session at the PSOGI 2018 international meeting in Paris. A third round for the remaining issues is currently in progress. In conclusion, using the Delphi technique and GRADE methodology, consensus was reached in many issues regarding the treatment of PM and PMP amongst an international panel of experts. Generation of broad XUV continuous high harmonic spectra and isolated attosecond pulses with intense mid-infrared lasers
We present experimental results showing the appearance of a near-continuum in
the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) spectra of atomic and molecular
species as the driving laser intensity of an infrared pulse increases. Detailed
macroscopic simulations reveal that these near-continuum spectra are capable of
producing IAPs in the far field if a proper spatial filter is applied. Further,
our simulations show that the near-continuum spectra and the IAPs are a product
of strong temporal and spatial reshaping (blue shift and defocusing) of the
driving field. This offers a possibility of producing IAPs with a broad range
of photon energy, including plateau harmonics, by mid-IR laser pulses even
