    Transverse Tau Polarization in Decays of the Top and Bottom Quarks in the Weinberg Model of CP Non-conservation

    We show that the transverse polarization asymmetry of the τ\tau-lepton in the decay tbτνt\rightarrow b \tau \nu is extremely sensitive to CP violating phases arising from the charged Higgs exchange in the Weinberg model of CP non-conservation. Qualitatively, the polarization asymmetries are enhanced over rate or energy asymmetries by a factor of mtmτO(100)\approx {m_t\over m_\tau}\approx O(100). Thus for optimal values of the parameters the method requires 104\approx 10^4 top pairs to be observable rather than 10710^7 needed for rate or energy asymmetries. We also examine τ\tau polarization in b decays via bcντb \rightarrow c \nu \tau and find that it can also be very effective in constraining the CP violation parameters of the extended Higgs sector.Comment: 11,1 figure, SLAC-PUB-608

    One-loop flavor changing electromagnetic transitions

    We discuss the effect of the external fermion masses in the flavor-changing radiative transitions of a heavy fermion (quark or lepton) to a lighter fermion at the one-loop level, and point out an often overlooked crucial difference in the sign of a charge factor between transitions of the down type sdγs\to d\gamma and the up type cuγc\to u\gamma.     Bounds on the mass of the b' quark, revisited

    Recent results from the DELPHI collaboration led us to review the present bounds on the b' quark mass. We use all available experimental data for m_b' > 96 GeV to constrain the b' quark mass as a function of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa elements in a sequential four generations model. We find that there is still room for a b' with a mass larger than 96 GeV.Comment: 9 pages and 7 figures. REVTEX

    The reaction ppˉtbˉXp\bar p\to t\bar bX is found to be rather rich in exhibiting several different types of CP asymmetries. The spin of the top quark plays an important role. Asymmetries are related to form factors arising from radiative corrections of the tbWtbW production vertex due to non-standard physics.     Signal for CP violation in B±PPˉπ±B^{\pm} \to P {\bar P} \pi^{\pm} decays

    We analyze the partial rate asymmetry in B±PPˉπ±B^{\pm} \to P {\bar P} \pi^{\pm} decays (P=π+,K+,π0,η P = \pi^+, K ^+, \pi^0, \eta) which results from the interference of the nonresonant decay amplitude and the resonant amplitude for B±χc0π±B^{\pm} \to \chi_{c0} \pi^{\pm} followed by the decay χc0PPˉ\chi_{c0} \to P {\bar P} . The CP violating phase γ\gamma can be extracted from the measured asymmetry. We find that the partial rate asymmetry for B±π+ππ±B^\pm \to \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^\pm is 0.33 sinγ0.33~sin \gamma, while for B±K+Kπ±B^\pm \to K^+ K^-\pi^\pm it amounts 0.45 sinγ0.45~ sin \gamma.Comment: 3 pages, latex, no figures, Talk given by S.     SUSY signals at HERA in the no-scale flipped SU(5) supergravity model

    Sparticle production and detection at HERA are studied within the recently proposed no-scale flipped SU(5)SU(5) supergravity model. Among the various reaction channels that could lead to sparticle production at HERA, only the following are within its limit of sensitivity in this model: epe~L,Rχi0+X,ν~eχ1+Xe^-p\to \tilde e^-_{L,R}\chi^0_i+X, \tilde \nu_e\chi^-_1+X, where χi0(i=1,2)\chi^0_i(i=1,2) are the two lightest neutralinos and χ1\chi^-_1 is the lightest chargino. We study the elastic and deep-inelastic contributions to the cross sections using the Weizs\"acker-Williams approximation. We find that the most promising supersymmetric production channel is right-handed selectron (e~R\tilde e_{R}) plus first neutralino (χ10\chi^0_1), with one hard electron and missing energy signature. The ν~eχ1\tilde\nu_e\chi^-_1 channel leads to comparable rates but also allows jet final states. A right-handedly polarized electron beam at HERA would shut off the latter channel and allow preferentially the former one. With an integrated luminosity of {\cal L}=100\ipb, HERA can extend the present LEPI lower bounds on me~R,mν~e,mχ10m_{\tilde e_R}, m_{\tilde\nu_e},m_{\chi^0_1} by \approx25\GeV, while {\cal L}=1000\ipb will make HERA competitive with LEPII. We also show that the Leading Proton Spectrometer (LPS) at HERA is an excellent supersymmetry detector which can provide indirect information about the sparticle masses by measuring the leading proton longitudinal momentum distribution.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures (available upon request as uuencoded file or separate ps files), tex (harvmac) CTP-TAMU-15/93, CERN/LAA/93-1

    Window on Higgs Boson: Fourth Generation bb^\prime Decays Revisited

    Direct and indirect searches of the Higgs boson suggest that 113 GeV mH\lesssim m_H \lesssim 170 GeV is likely. With the LEP era over and the Tevatron Run II search via ppˉWH+Xp\bar p \to WH+X arduous, we revisit a case where WHWH or ZH+ZH + jets could arise via strong bbˉb^\prime\bar b^\prime pair production. In contrast to 10 years ago, the tight electroweak constraint on tt^\prime--bb^\prime (hence tt^\prime--tt) splitting reduces FCNC bbZb^\prime\to bZ, bHbH rates, making bcWb^\prime\to cW naturally competitive. Such a "cocktail solution" is precisely the mix that could evade the CDF search for bbZb^\prime\to bZ, and the bb^\prime may well be lurking below the top.     Accounting for Slow J/psi from B Decay

    A slow J/psi excess exists in the inclusive B -> J/psi+X spectrum, and is indicative of some hadronic effect. From color octet nature of c cbar pair in b-> c cbar s decay, one such possibility would be B -> J/psi+ K_g decay, where K_g is a hybrid resonance with sbar g q constituents. We show that a K_g resonance of ~ 2 GeV mass and suitably broad width could be behind the excess.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
