The religious elements of the cultural landscape of the podkarpackie province – the existing assets and their role in tourism and the promotion of the region

Obszar obecnego województwa podkarpackiego od wieków leżał na pograniczu etnicznym, religijnym i politycznym. Krajobrazowym dowodem wielokulturowości regionu jest zachowany zespół budowli sakralnych, reprezentujących różne wyznania, formy stylistyczne i funkcje. Są wśród nich drewniane kościoły wpisane na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO oraz liczne drewniane cerkwie. Niektóre obiekty i miejsca związane z wielokulturowym i religijnym dziedzictwem połączono turystycznymi szlakami tematycznymi. W „Strategii rozwoju turystyki dla województwa podkarpackiego” dziedzictwo wielokulturowe i religijne przedstawiane jest jako istotny składnik potencjału w rozwoju oferty turystycznej. Było to inspiracją do badań szczegółowych polegających na analizie rozmieszczenia i charakteru obiektów sakralnych w powiatach i miastach na prawach powiatu. Kolejny etap stanowiła ocena zakresu ujęcia tej problematyki i propozycji promocji walorów obiektów sakralnych w dokumentach strategiczno-planistycznych.For centuries, the area of the present-day Podkarpackie Province has been part of an ethnic, religious and political borderland. Landscape evidences of the multicultural character of the region are numerous monuments of religious architecture representing various forms, functions and denominations, including wooden Roman-Catholic churches inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as well as a number of wooden Greek-Catholic and Orthodox churches. Some of the multicultural and religious heritage sites and monuments have been linked within themed tourist trails. The “Tourism Development Strategy for the Podkarpackie Province” views the multicultural and religious heritage as an important asset for the development of tourism. Detailed studies were based on analysing the distribution and character of monuments of religious architecture in counties and towns with county status. The next stage was based on assessing the extent to which this subject matter and the proposed ways of promoting these assets have been included in strategic and planning documents
