Variation Resilient Adaptive Controller for Subthreshold Circuits

    No full text
Subthreshold logic is showing good promise as a viable ultra-low-power circuit design technique for power-limited applications. For this design technique to gain widespread adoption, one of the most pressing concerns is how to improve the robustness of subthreshold logic to process and temperature variations. We propose a variation resilient adaptive controller for subthreshold circuits with the following novel features: new sensor based on time-to-digital converter for capturing the variations accurately as digital signatures, and an all-digital DC-DC converter incorporating the sensor capable of generating an operating operating Vdd from 0V to 1.2V with a resolution of 18.75mV, suitable for subthreshold circuit operation. The benefits of the proposed controller is reflected with energy improvement of up to 55% compared to when no controller is employed. The detailed implementation and validation of the proposed controller is discussed

Inhibition of lipolysis: A novel explanation for the hypothermic actions of acetaminophen in non-febrile rodents

Acetaminophen is both widely used to treat children with fever and is also responsible for thousands being hospitalised annually. Historically the antipyretic actions of acetaminophen were attributed to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1/2) enzymes and more recently a novel COX-1 variant (COX-3) located in the brain. However, the evidence for acetaminophen-mediated COX inhibition remains contentious. This study assesses the impact of acetaminophen and other putative COX-3 inhibitors on the release of fatty acids during lipolysis as an alternative mechanism by which antipyretics can reduce body temperature during fever. 3T3-L1 adipocytes, primary brown adipocytes and isolated mitochondria were exposed to COX-3 inhibitors and lipolysis and mitochondrial electron transport chain function assessed. Acetaminophen, aminopyrine and antipyrine at 1–10 mM caused a significant decrease (up to 70%; P < 0.01, from control) in lipolysis within 1, 3 and 24 h without affecting cell viability. The inhibition was observed regardless of where along its signalling pathway lipolysis was stimulated. All three compounds were found to significantly attenuate mitochondrial function by up to 30% for complex I and 40% for complex II (P < 0.01, from control). These novel observations combined with the known limited inhibition of the COX enzymes by acetaminophen suggest both the antipyretic and hypothermia induced by acetaminophen and related compounds could be attributed to the direct inhibition of lipolysis and mitochondrial function, rather than cyclooxygenase inhibition centrally. Further these observations could provide new drug targets for reducing fever with the added bonus of fewer individuals being hospitalized by accidental acetaminophen overdose

Constructing the fermion-boson vertex in QED3

    Get PDF
We derive perturbative constraints on the transverse part of the fermion-boson vertex in massive QED3 through its one loop evaluation in an arbitrary covariant gauge. Written in a particular form, these constraints naturally lead us to the first non-perturbative construction of the vertex, which is in complete agreement with its one loop expansion in all momentum regimes. Without affecting its one-loop perturbative properties, we also construct an effective vertex in such a way that the unknown functions defining it have no dependence on the angle between the incoming and outgoing fermion momenta. Such a vertex should be useful for the numerical study of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking, leading to more reliable results.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure

Transverse Takahashi Identities and Their Implications for Gauge Independent Dynamical Chiral Symmetry Breaking

In this article, we employ transverse Takahashi identities to impose valuable non-perturbative constraints on the transverse part of the fermion-photon vertex in terms of new form factors, the so called YiY_i functions. We show that the implementation of these identities is crucial in ensuring the correct local gauge transformation of the fermion propagator and its multiplicative renormalizability. Our construction incorporates the correct symmetry properties of the YiY_i under charge conjugation operation as well as their well-known one-loop expansion in the asymptotic configuration of incoming and outgoing momenta. Furthermore, we make an explicit analysis of various existing constructions of this vertex against the demands of transverse Takahashi identities and the previously established key features of quantum electrodynamics, such as gauge invariance of the critical coupling above which chiral symmetry is dynamically broken. We construct a simple example in its quenched version and compute the mass function as we vary the coupling strength and also calculate the corresponding anomalous dimensions γm\gamma_m. There is an excellent fit to the Miransky scalling law and we find γm=1\gamma_m=1 rather naturally in accordance with some earlier results in literature, using arguments based on Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective potential technique. Moreover, we numerically confirm the gauge invariance of this critical coupling.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure

Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin Transformations and the Fermion Propagator in Quantum Electrodynamics

We study the gauge covariance of the massive fermion propagator in three as well as four dimensional Quantum Electrodynamics (QED). Starting from its value at the lowest order in perturbation theory, we evaluate a non-perturbative expression for it by means of its Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin (LKF) transformation. We compare the perturbative expansion of our findings with the known one loop results and observe perfect agreement upto a gauge parameter independent term, a difference permitted by the structure of the LKF transformations.Comment: 9 pages, no figures, uses revte

Constraint on the QED Vertex from the Mass Anomalous Dimension γm=1\gamma_m = 1

We discuss the structure of the non-perturbative fermion-boson vertex in quenched QED. We show that it is possible to construct a vertex which not only ensures that the fermion propagator is multiplicatively renormalizable, obeys the appropriate Ward-Takahashi identity, reproduces perturbation theory for weak couplings and guarantees that the critical coupling at which the mass is dynamically generated is gauge independent but also makes sure that the value for the anomalous dimension for the mass function is strictly 1, as Holdom and Mahanta have proposed.Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX, October 199

The aim of this research is to seen the dynamic of economic growth within two types of typology year of 2007-2012, and the connection patter of economic growth and Human Development Index in Province of South Sumatera. Analyzing methods which used in this research are qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis, research by Klassen typology analysis technique, and Rank Spearman Correlation. The result can be concluded if economic growth typology and HDI showed that (1) region which include in high level economic growth and HDI classification is Palembang. This also strengthen Palembang top position in region competing level; (2) regions which in the second quadrant with low level economic growth and HDI classification are District of Lahat, Ogan Komering Ilir, Banyuasin, East OKU, and also the city of Lubuk Linggau; (3) regions which in high level of HDI classification, but low level in economic growth are District of South OKU, Ogan Komering Ulu, the city of Pagar Alam, and also Prabumulih; (4) on the other hand District of Musi Banyuasin, Muara Enim, Ogan Ilir, and Musi Rawas included as low level of economic growth and HDI. The mathematical result showed that the role of district or city economic growth is not supported to push up the level of economic growth. It showed from the value of r = 0.600 or equal to 60 percent. The low role of human resource to economic growth indicated the low intention from the government to the human resource development
