Human interaction involves a process of sharing experiences, telling stories, and retelling stories in a form of narration. While telling story, the narration is structured in a way to make sense to the audiences. This study examined the narrative structures in Kelantanese dialect used by young female native speakers. The participants were two (2) female Kelantanese students, aged 25 and 27 years old, who have completed their undergraduate studies in local universities. Audio recording and semi-structured interview were two types of instruments used for the data collection. Interview session of 1012 words was analyzed using a combination of the theory of Malay sentence classifications and the theory of narrative structure. The findings of this study reveal that the narration in Kelantanese dialect has a systematic structure which consists of title and elaboration. The title consists of the abstract and orientation, while elaboration includes the four stages of narrative structure which are complication, evaluation, resolution and coda. The findings show that the story is unfolded in a structural manner-which means it has the idea and the elaboration of the idea (the story)

Narrative experiential meaning-making in Malay short stories

The experiential meaning-making in narrative can be studied by applying the Ideational Metafunction theoretical framework as introduced by Halliday. According to Halliday, the meaning-making can be realized by means of three Transitivity main elements found in clauses which are process, participants and circumstances. A study was conducted on three Malay short stories entitled ‘Catatan di Meja Makan’, ‘Anita’ and ‘Meneruskan Perjalanan’ by Zurinah Hassan to analyse the experiential meaning-making of narrative using Transitivity analysis from Systemic Functional Linguistics as the analytical framework. The findings of the Transitivity analysis on Malay short stories show that material process types are mostly found and followed by mental processes. This results in the most found participants are actors for material process types, whilst participants for mental processes are sensors. The findings also show that the participants for material processes can be living or non-living entities. The writer usually conveys the meaning of short stories in active forms, by which means active processes are used to illustrate the actions of participants in Malay short stories. The findings of this study are a contribution to the field of Malay language studies using the theoretical framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics, of which studies on Malay language using this theory are still lacking

The current study aimed to identify performance indicators that may discriminate the match performances between winning and losing teams in the Netball Sabah Games 2019. A total of 16 matches during this tournament were recorded and analyzed manually by an observer. Ten performance indicators have been studied which were successful pass, turnover, offside, interception, deflection, defensive rebound, free pass, goal percentage, goal attempt, and goal. The results showed that there were significant differences in the interception, deflection, goal attempt, and goal between winning and losing teams (p < .05). In addition, the performance indicators that discriminate between winning and losing teams were the goal attempt and goal. These current findings may provide valuable information for coaches and players to create a useful strategy, especially when they are against a stronger opponent during the competition
