Cost Efficiency Measurement of Leasing Companies with SFA and DEA Approach
Nowadays the leasing industry is a successful industry in economic conditions, but there are few studies that deal with the assessment of leasing companies' efficiency in Bangladesh. Previous research for leasing company's' efficiency measurement usually adopts either DEA or SFA method, but not both of them. Therefore, this paper is aimed to measure the cost efficiencies of 15 leasing companies from 2002 to 2008 by applying both SFA and DEA models with four inputs and two outputs. The results suggest that leasing companies have generally less experience in the allocation of resources and in the improvement of cost efficiency. INTRODUCTION Performance evaluation of the leasing companies is a most important issue because leasing has a vital role in economic development and growth and also contributes a major share in the gross domestic production (GDP) [4] developed a model for the evaluation of service quality in auto-industry leasing in Iran. They used the factor analysis to assess service quality and customer satisfaction in the form of performance. Majazi Dalfard et al. [16] applied the super efficiency DEA model to rank efficient leasing companies due to the failure of basic DEA models, there are other methods that can be used to rank the DMUs [19] in future studies. There are only a few literatures available in the subject of leasing companies in Bangladesh. For instance, Khanam The measure of inefficiency derived from micro-economic theory [1], Charnes, Cooper, and Rhodes [9,10], and Banker, Charnes, and Cooper The paper is organized as follows. Section 2 discusses the background and literatures for leasing companies in Bangladesh. Section 3 presents the methodologies of SFA and DEA. Section 4 assesses the efficiency ratings of leasing companies. Finally, the main results and suggestions for future research are summarized
Analisis Desentralisasi Asimetris Pada Pengangkatan Penjabat (PJ) Gubernur Provinsi DKI Jakarta
One of the impacts arising from the implementation of simultaneous elections and elections is the existence of vacancies in regional heads in several provinces and districts. To fill the vacancy, an Acting PJ was appointed by the Government. Rapture acting regional head as stipulated in the provisions of Article 201 paragraph (9) of the Law 10 of 2016 raises questions about its application in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. As regions with a special status different from other regional governments, Jakarta places the Governor with great authority, including appointing and dismissing the Mayor and Regent in Article 29 of 2007, which is indeed placed as an acting administrative task. Because of that great authority, the mechanism for electing the Governor of DKI Jakarta is more specialized, namely meeting the number of votes 50%, and if it is not fulfilled, a second round of elections will be held. This is done so that The governor elected by the people is truly of the will of the majority of the people because later the Governor has great authority. Given the specificity possessed by DKI Jakarta Government, hence the application of Article 201 paragraph (9) of Law Number 10 of 2016 is questionable, especially from its constitutionality.
Factors associated with relapse amongst substance abusers
Background: Relapse amongst substance abusers is common throughout the world, and Bangladesh is no exception to this. In Bangladesh, drug related problems are gradually becoming a burning issue in context of social, economical and medical perspective. The present study aimed to find out factors indicating relapse amongst substance abuser.
Methods: This descriptive type of observational study was conducted in the combined military hospital and other government/private hospital/institute, especially the central drug addict treatment center, Dhaka. Informed consent was obtained prior to data collection. Collected data was classified, edited, coded, and entered into the computer for statistical analysis by using SPSS-23. The chi-Square test was used to analyze the categorical variables, and a p<0.05 was considered as statistically significant.
Results: The study involved 100 patients who had a history of substance abuse. The most common substance abused was Yaba (27%), followed by cannabis (21%). The average duration of abuse for Yaba was 5.8 years, while the longest mean duration was for Alcohol (14.2 years). In the 2nd admission, the largest percentage of patients was aged 21-30 years and were male. The majority of patients were Muslim and were either unemployed or had a lower socioeconomic status. Patients age, occupation, socioeconomic status, peer pressure, and family problems all had a significant association (p<0.05) with relapse at different admissions. Peer pressure and family problems were also identified as factors affecting relapse, with 67.57% and 56.76% of patients experiencing them during their 2nd admission, respectively.
Conclusions: The study found Yaba to be the most commonly used drug, followed by cannabis, phensedyl, heroin, etc. Alcohol was found to have the longest duration of abuse. Most patients were aged 21-30 and unemployed in multiple admissions. Peer pressure and unemployment were major factors in substance abuse, and psychiatric illness was a common factor in relapse. The results align with global findings and highlight the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing substance abuse, considering all relevant factors.
