THE IMPACT OF TAX REFORMS ON GOVERNMENT REVENUE GENERATION IN NIGERIA
The study examines the impact of Tax Reform Policy on Revenue generation of the Federal Government
of Nigeria. The primary objective of this paper is to prepare a case study on tax policy reforms in Nigeria,
with the specific objectives of examining the main tax reforms in the country, highlighting tax revenue
profile and contributions of the three categories of taxes identified as personal, company and custom
duties to the total revenue collection. The techniques of data analysis adopted for the empirical study
were the Analysis of Variance Method and the Scheffeâs Multiple Comparison techniques. In addition,
the âFâ test of the analysis of the variance was used to test the hypothesis of no significant difference in
the impact on personal, company and custom duty tax revenues of the Federal Government by each of
the following tax reform policy objectives; enhancement of the principles of good tax system,
improvement in the tax administrative structure, removal of disincentives to tax compliance and
promotion of investment opportunities. From the results, it was concluded that each of the tax reform
policy objectives had significant impacts on the personal, company and custom duty tax revenues of the
federal government of Nigeria. Scheffeâs comparison test confirmed that tax revenues from both
company and custom duty exceeded personal income tax. It was recommended that for improved tax
revenue generation from pursuit of tax reform policy objectives, the training and employment of
qualified tax personnel who will be adequately equipped with appropriate materials is necessary.
Furthermore, the adoption of strategies for an effective and efficient tax reform alongside with
harmonization of government industrial and stabilization polices with those of tax reforms
APPLICATION OF FINANCIAL ETHICS IN ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORTING OF BANKS
The importance of financial ethics and its application in financial reporting of banks cannot be ignored as it assists in building public confidence and fostering professionalism. However, the non-compliance and conformity with Nigerian Financial Regulatory Authorities prudential guidelines in the preparation of financial statements lead to incomplete or false information. The objective of the study is to examine the application of financial ethics in annual financial reporting of banks. The study employed primary and secondary data and stratified and purposive sampling techniques were used in which 20 questionnaires were administered to respondents. ANOVA and chi-square were in analysis and the findings revealed that there are significant unethical practices in the preparation of financial reports of banks in Nigeria. The study recommends that more emphasis and attention should be given to ethical standards in all banks and banks should give out clear reports of their financial activities to the regulatory authorities
The Effects of Entrepreneurship Education on University Studentsâ Attitude and Entrepreneurial Intention
The study is informed by high number of graduate unemployment and possibility of making entrepreneurship as a carrier choice affected by entrepreneurship education course offered by the students. This study investigated the relationship that exists between offering entrepreneurship education course and students intention to become entrepreneurs in selected universities in north east Nigeria. The population of the study were all undergraduate students from five selected universities in north east Nigeria. Purposive sampling was used in selecting the five universities, while simple random sampling was used in selecting four faculties and respondents from each university. The data was gathered across two semesters using four point Likert scale, ranging from strongly agreed to strongly disagree. SPSS version 16, descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were used in the analysis of the data. The results showed that the students agreed that there is positive relationship between offering entrepreneurship education and their intention to become entrepreneurs. The Pearson correlation results also showed that, there is positive relationship between offering entrepreneurship education course and studentsâ intention to become entrepreneurs. Management Technology Education and the Challenges Of Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria
Increasingly nowadays âgood governanceâ is viewed as a keystone in the architecture of effective leadership and âthe exercise of political power to manage a nationâs affair. It encompasses the stateâs institutional and structural arrangements in decision-making processes and implementation. The concept has moved to the fore and the aim is to convince decision-makers about the merits of effective management and transparency, and of the need to have effective managers to manage the available resources. However, absences of such have resulted to the persistent crisis of governance such as corruption, mismanagement and have blocked development. This ugly situation has left good governance and accountability as just a mere concept. As a result today, Nigeria is characterized by problems of poverty, disease, ignorance, and above all lack of good managers. Consequently, Poverty, hunger, hunger, diseases, ignorance has moved to the forefront of global concern. Particular importance is the commitment of the United Nations to reduce developing countriesâ such as Nigeria level of poverty as now reflected in the objectives of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) consisted of 189 membership states. Public Policy Formulation and Implementation in Nigeria
The papers examine and analyze the importance, problems and factors influencing public policy formulation and implementation. It dwelt further on the policy reforms and determinant of policy issues and features as a guide to effective public policy formulation and implementation in Nigeria. The study equally revealed that there is lack of full practice of federalism in Nigeria as enshrined in the 1999 constitution rather what is obtained now is synonymous to unitary system of government. Consequent upon that, in spite of the importance of public policy formulation and implementation as a critical factor in the management of government affairs in Nigeria, yet there are no standard formats or generally accepted guidelines towards such. It is against this background, that the bureaucrats has a way of constituting obstacles or frustration in the way of policies formulated by the political officials, especially those policies on which they hold divergent opinions or are not of direct benefit to them. A synonym for this sense is the bureaucratic decision making process. As a result of this since independent, the country has been facing challenges of managing her resources due to the different styles of governance in the implementing of various aspects of government public policies, programmes and actions. The study recommends among other things the need for government to be very proactive, sensitive in formulating and implementation of public policy decisions that has direct impact on its citizenry.
