    Get PDF

510 cases of surgical lymph node biopsies during a five year periode are reviewed with the following conclusionsThe lymph node biopsy constitues 5% of all the surgical biopsies, The cervical and axillary lymph nodes are the most commonly biopsicd nodes due to their easy accessibility and due to the fact that they drain the lymph from many vital organs: the next most commonly biopsied nodes are the sub-clavicular, grains, mesentric and mediastinal nodes, Among all the lymph node affections the metastatic tumours occupy the first place (23 %) followed by the primary tumours (malignant lymphomas 16%) and the specific inflammatory lesions (10% ), Among the metastic nodes squamous cell carcinoma occupy the first place (8%) followed by digestivetract, lung, thyroid glands, breast, testicular, pancreatic, ovarian and gall bladder tumours

    Etnicidad y género : temas y tendencias

    Get PDF

The gut microbiome-Does stool represent right?

    No full text
: Many stool-based gut microbiome studies have highlighted the importance of the microbiome. However, we hypothesized that stool is a poor proxy for the inner-colonic microbiome and that studying stool samples may be inadequate to capture the true inner-colonic microbiome. To test this hypothesis, we conducted prospective clinical studies with up to 20 patients undergoing an FDA-cleared gravity-fed colonic lavage without oral purgative pre-consumption. The objective of this study was to present the analysis of inner-colonic microbiota obtained non-invasively during the lavage and how these results differ from stool samples. The inner-colonic samples represented the descending, transverse, and ascending colon. All samples were analyzed for 16S rRNA and shotgun metagenomic sequences. The taxonomic, phylogenetic, and biosynthetic gene cluster analyses showed a distinctive biogeographic gradient and revealed differences between the sample types, especially in the proximal colon. The high percentage of unique information found only in the inner-colonic effluent highlights the importance of these samples and likewise the importance of collecting them using a method that can preserve these distinctive signatures. We proposed that these samples are imperative for developing future biomarkers, targeted therapeutics, and personalized medicine

Y-chromosomal haplogroups from wild and domestic goats reveal ancient migrations and recent introgressions

By its paternal transmission, Y-chromosomal haplotypes are sensitive markers of population history and male-mediated introgression. We used whole-genome sequences (WGSs) of 386 domestic goats from 75 modern breeds and 7 wild goat species generated by the VarGoats goat genome project. Phylogenetic analyses indicated five domestic haplogroups Y1AA, Y1AB, Y1B, Y2A and Y2B. Haplogroup distributions for 180 domestic breeds indicate ancient paternal population bottlenecks during the migration into northern Europe, southern Asia and Africa. Sharing of haplogroups reveals male-mediated introgressions: from Asia into Madagascar and, more recently, into the South-African Boer goat; then from this breed into other southeastern African goats; and from Europe into native Korean and Ugandan goats. This study illustrates the power of the Y-chromosomal variation for the reconstructing the history of domestic species with a wide geographic range
