    The Effect of Self Efficacy and Learning Independence on English Speaking Ability

    This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of self-efficacy and learning independence on students' speaking skills in English. The research method used is a survey method with correlational analysis conducted on semester one students of the informatics engineering study program for the even academic year 2020/2021. The sampling technique is simple random sampling technique of 70 students. The instruments used are questionnaires and tests. The data was analyzed first by testing the data analysis requirements met, namely normality test, regression linearity test and multicollinearity test. After the test data requirements are met, a differential analysis is carried out to test the research hypotheses using correlation analysis and multiple regression techniques. From the results of the study it was found that: (1) there was a positive and significant effect of self-efficacy and independent learning together on students' English speaking skills; (2) there is a positive and significant effect of self-efficacy on students' English speaking skills; (3) there is a positive and significant effect of learning independence on students' English speaking skills

    This study aims to determine the extent to which film media and semantic mapping learning strategies can improve student English vocabulary. This study uses a qualitative approach with individual action research methods which begins with surveys, observations, interviews and tests in the class. The research was carried out on the first semester students majoring in informatics using qualitative research methods. The results of the study, obtained by the results of film media and semantic mapping strategies, had a positive and significant effect on the improvement of students' English vocabulary.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pembelajaran melalui teknik pembelajaran dengan drama terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris peserta didik di SMPN 157 Jakarta. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian eksperimen. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh peserta didik di SMPN 157 Jakarta, dan sampel penelitian sebanyak 25 peserta didik untuk kelas eksperimen, dan 25 peserta didik untuk kelas kontrol. Penelitian ini menggunakan beberapa instrumen dan tahapan. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian yang dibantu dengan SPSS 16.0. Pada taraf signifikansi 0,05, maka diperoleh hasil terdapat pengaruh positif yang rendah penggunaan teknik pembelajaran dengan drama terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris peserta didik

    Pengaruh Gaya Belajar terhadap Penguasaan Kosakata Bahasa Inggris

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari gaya belajar terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Mardi Yuana Bogor. Hipotesis yang diuji adalah terdapat perbedaan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris peserta didik dengan gaya belajar auditori, kinestetik dan visual. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kuantitatif untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh gaya belajar terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris peserta didik dengan dibantu SPSS 16.0. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 64 peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Mardi Yuana Bogor. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dengan SPSS 16.0 pada taraf signifikansi ?= 0,05 diperoleh nilai sig 0,000 < 0,05 dan Fhit > Ftab atau 16,544 > 3,148. Maka Ho ditolak dan H1 diterima. Artinya terdapat pengaruh gaya belajar terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris peserta didik.  Kata Kunci: Gaya Belajar, Auditori, Kinestetik, Visual, Kosakat

    Kidney Bean Yoghurt is Effective to Improve Immune System and Sleep Quality Among Elderly in Yogyakarta

    This study aimed to assess the effect of kidney bean yoghurt on the immune system and sleep quality in healthy elderly subjects in Yogyakarta. The study included 17 healthy elderly aged 60-81 years. The study design was a quasi-experimental, before and after design conducted at the Abiyoso Institutional Care for elderly in Yogyakarta from April to May 2018. The subjects were given 200 ml kidney bean yoghurt everyday for 14 days. The immune system status was measured by lymphocyte count and the sleep quality was measured by the PSQI with higher scores in dicating worse sleep quality. Paired t-test was used for data analysis. Lymphocyte count after intervention (28.89±7.09) was higher than before intervention (25.96±7.41), and it was statistically significant (p=0.006). The sleep quality index after the intervention (4.88±1.83) was lower than before intervention (8.06±3.09) and the difference was statistically significant (p=0.001). This intervention study indicates that kidney bean yoghurt significantly improves both immune systems and sleeps quality among our elderly subjects

    Using Kahoot! In Distance Learning To Increase Engineering Students English Skill

    Since April 2020 The Ministry of Education stated the “Learning from Home” policy, that’s why The research was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic in the academic year of 2020-2019 starting in April 2021. Where learning is learning process have been held virtually with the support of internet and some communication and computer-based device. As a matter of fact, distance learning is not as simple as it should be. So the purpose of this research is to improve grammar skills through interactive learning media so that it is interesting and does not make students bored while following the distance learning. Therefore, the authors conducted research by knowing the use of learning media based on Kahoot as an effort to improve students' English grammar skills. The research method applied is the Classroom Action Research Method which goes through 2 cycles with the final results showing that the use of kahoot as an alternative learning media is very effective in growing up the enthusiasm of students to attend lectures so that it has an impact on improving students' English grammar skills with the finding of the average score of students with The number of  70 in the first cycle and 80 as the average value in the second cycle, these results significantly increased from the average score of 60 before the implementation of kahoot as learning media

    Efektifitas Penggunaan Aplikasi berbasis Android Sebagai Dampak dari Penyebaran Covid-19

    The background of this research is distance learning which utilizes media in the form of android-based applications in connection with the global covid-19 pandemic experienced by various countries, one of which is Indonesia. This condition affects the movement of various sectors, including the education sector. After going through several months with this global pandemic condition, with all teaching-learning activities from various levels carried out from home, the use of appropriate methods is a very serious concern. Learning from home is one way that is expected to be able to suppress the spread of covid-19. Many distance learning media are available, so it is necessary to know the effectiveness of using these media to be used in distance learning. The method used in this research was qualitative-quantitative with a sample of 30 students chosen at random with the student record "technology literate". The data collection method was carried out through a questionnaire using electronic media and internet networks. The results of this research indicate that not all android-based applications can be used effectively in distance learning. This research is expected to provide new views and references on the effectiveness of the use of electronic media in learning, so as to increase the effectiveness of distance learning for various levels of Education.   Key Words: Distance learning, electronic media, covid-1

    Expression and purification of recombinant coat protein of sugarcane mosaic virus from Indonesian isolate as an antigen for antibody production

    Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV, genus Potyvirus, family Potyviridae) is a prominent pathogen of sugarcane (Saccharum sp. hybrids). It can cause losses in susceptible varieties, in crop as well as sugar production, economically. Although it has been studied in major sugar-producing countries, research on the definement of SCMV from Indonesian isolates based on molecular study has been very limited. This study aimed to obtain a proper recombinant antigens emanating from coat protein of SCMV from Indonesian isolate in order to produce polyclonal antibodies that cann be used for immunodiagnosis assays in a subsequent study. A gene-encoding coat protein of SCMV (CP-SCMV) was amplified using RT-PCR and cloned into vector pJET1.2. The cDNA was inserted into 6X His-tag expression plasmid of pET28a(+) and over-expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) to produce a recombinant protein. The highest expression was found in 0.1M IPTG induction media for 5 h at 37oC. SDS-PAGE analysis clarified that the recombinant CP-SCMV remained as an insoluble fraction. Purifications was carried out by the affinity Ni-NTA resin, followed by electroelution to obtain a highly purified protein. To meet the quality requirements of a proper antigen, the highly purified protein was concentrated. A molecular weight of the rCP-SCMV (approximately 40 kDa) was clearly observed by 10% SDS-PAGE at the concentration of 16.184 mg/mL.
