    In this highly globalised manufacturing ecosystem, product design and verification activities, production and inspection processes, and technical support services are spread across global supply chains and customer networks. Therefore, a platform for global teams to collaborate with each other in real-time to perform complex tasks is highly desirable. This work investigates the design and development of a remote real-time collaboration platform by using human motion capture technology powered by infrared light based depth imaging sensors borrowed from the gaming industry. The unique functionality of the proposed platform is the sharing of physical contexts during a collaboration session by not only exchanging human actions but also the effects of those actions on the task environment. This enables teams to remotely work on a common task problem at the same time and also get immediate feedback from each other which is vital for collaborative design, inspection and verifications tasks in the factories of the future

    Use of bamboo fiber in oil water separation

    One of the environmental issues facing the society is the separation of oil from water in emulsions. Oily wastewater enters into the environment through many ways such as oil spill as well as from the industry. Natural fibers are a viable alternative to synthetic fibers in separating oil from the water. The oil physical characteristics and sorbents made from the fiber influences the sorption of oil onto the fiber. This work uses the naturally available bamboo fibers for separation of oil from water. Very high adsorption capacities were obtained for vegetable oil. Furthermore, recovery of oil was also tested and 90% recovery was obtained. Bamboo fiber has thus great advantage in treating oil-water mixture

    An investigation into minimising total energy consumption and total completion time in a flexible job shop for recycling carbon fiber reinforced polymer

    The increased use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) in industry coupled with European Union restrictions on landfill disposal has resulted in a need to develop relevant recycling technologies. Several methods, such as mechanical grinding, thermolysis and solvolysis, have been tried to recover the carbon fibers. Optimisation techniques for reducing energy consumed by above processes have also been developed. However, the energy efficiency of recycling CFRP at the workshop level has never been considered before. An approach to incorporate energy reduction into consideration while making the scheduling plans for a CFRP recycling workshop is presented in this paper. This research sets in a flexible job shop circumstance, model for the bi-objective problem that minimise total processing energy consumption and makespan is developed. A modified Genetic Algorithm for solving the raw material lot splitting problem is developed. A case study of the lot sizing problem in the flexible job shop for recycling CFRP is presented to show how scheduling plans affect energy consumption, and to prove the feasibility of the model and the developed algorithm

    Two-particle femtoscopic correlations between non-identical charged particles for different charge combinations are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76 TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The three-dimensional two-particle correlation functions are studied in different centrality bins. The femtoscopic source size parameter (ROutR_{Out}) and emission asymmetry (μ\mu) are extracted.
