On Sussmann theorem for orbits of sets of vector fields on Banach manifolds

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to give some generalizations, in the context of Banach mani- folds, of Sussmann's results about the orbits of families of vector fields ([Su]). Essentially, we define the notion of "l1-orbits" for any family of vector fields on a Banach manifold, and we prove, under appropriate assumptions, that such an orbit is a weak Banach submanifold

Over the last three decades the Life Sciences Program has significantly contributed to NASA's manned and unmanned exploration of space, while acquiring new knowledge in the fields of space biology and medicine. The national and international events which have led to the development and revision of NASA strategy will significantly affect the future of life sciences programs both in scope and pace. This document serves as the basis for synthesizing the options to be pursued during the next decade, based on the decisions, evolution, and guiding principles of the National Space Policy. The strategies detailed in this document are fully supportive of the Life Sciences Advisory Subcommittee's 'A Rationale for the Life Sciences,' and the recent Aerospace Medicine Advisory Committee report entitled 'Strategic Considerations for Support of Humans in Space and Moon/Mars Exploration Missions.' Information contained within this document is intended for internal NASA planning and is subject to policy decisions and direction, and to budgets allocated to NASA's Life Sciences Program

Poset Matrix Structure Via Partial Composition Operations

This paper examines the structure of poset matrices by formulating a set of new construction rules for this purpose. In this direction, the technique of partial composition operations will be introduced as the basis for the recursive construction of poset matrices for any given size by extending the combinatorial setting of species of structures to poset matrices. More specifically, three new partial composition operation techniques that apply to poset matrices will be defined as the foundation for this study. Some key structural patterns arising from viewing poset matrices in terms of partial composition operations will be highlighted in the context of the formation of distinct poset matrices. The relevance of this study will set the basis for modeling the operad structure of poset matrices and their algorithmic enumeration

Does external debt promote economic growth in Côte d’Ivoire?

Thesis(Master) --KDI School:Master of Public Policy,2019The paper calls attention to the increasing external debt in Côte d’Ivoire. The primary goal of this paper was to cast light on the nature of the correlation between external debt and economic growth. I also attempted to identify the optimal level of debt stock that the country should hold for growth. The Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) bound test was performed to test for the presence of a cointegrating relationship between external debt and economic growth. I also employed the Hansen (2000) threshold test so as to confirm the presence of a threshold effect in external debt. The results suggest that external debt and economic growth are cointegrated. External debt significantly promoted growth in the longrun. The threshold test confirmed the presence of a threshold effect of external debt on economic growth, meaning that the Ivorian external debt and growth display a non-linear relationship. However, the number of observations did not allow the estimation of the threshold.INTRODUCTION CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF DEBT AND GROWTH IN COTE D’IVOIRE CHAPTER 3: LITERATURE REVIEW CHAPTER 4: RESEARCH METHOD CHAPTER 5: RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONOutstandingmasterpublishedBoke Aime Arnauld TOAMA

Social media is today at the heart of the knowledge production process in education systems and is therefore testing educational action. In this context, several strategies are mobilized by the actors in order to face the new challenges. This research aims to analyze the influence of educational action on the knowledge production process by social media in universities in Benin. As part of this qualitative research, data is collected from 50 resource persons through interview and observation through reasoned choice and snowball sampling techniques. It appears that social media contributes to the individualization of the knowledge production process. Likewise, the hyperaccessibility ofsocial media generates a certain democratization of knowledge and which calls into question traditional pedagogical action. It is therefore urgent to raise the level of a digital pedagogy

    THE ROLE OF FRICTIONAL STRENGTH

[1] At a subduction zone the amount of friction between the incoming plate and the forearc is an important factor in controlling the dip angle of subduction and the structure of the forearc. In this paper, we investigate the role of the frictional strength of sediments and of the serpentinized peridotite on the evolution of convergent margins. In numerical models, we vary thickness of a serpentinized layer in the mantle wedge (15 to 25 km) and the frictional strength of both the sediments and serpentinized mantle (friction angle 1° to 15°, or static friction coefficient 0.017 to 0.27) to control the amount of frictional coupling between the plates. With plastic strain weakening in the lithosphere, our numerical models can attain stable subduction geometry over millions of years. We find that the frictional strength of the sediments and serpentinized peridotite exerts the largest control on the dip angle of the subduction interface at seismogenic depths. In the case of low sediment and serpentinite friction, the subduction interface has a shallow dip, while the subduction zone develops an accretionary prism, a broad forearc high, a deep forearc basin, and a shallow trench. In the high friction case, the subduction interface is steep, the trench is deeper, and the accretionary prism, forearc high and basin are all absent. The resultant free-air gravity and topographic signature of these subduction zone models are consistent with observations. We believe that the low-friction model produces a geometry and forearc structure similar to that of accretionary margins. Conversely, models with high friction angles in sediments and serpentinite develop characteristics of an erosional convergent margin. We find that the strength of the subduction interface is critical in controlling the amount of coupling at the seismogenic zone and perhaps ultimately the size of the largest earthquakes at subduction zones

Nonconventionalmesocaval prosthetic shunt interposition in refractory case with portal hypertension in a 10-kg female infant

    Get PDF
Surgical treatment of portal hypertension in infants is challenging because of the high risk of shunt thrombosis. A 10-kg female infant underwent six failed procedures before being successfully treated by interposition of a 10-mm-diameter prosthetic graft between two 3-mm-diameter splanchnic veins and the inferior vena cava. Follow-up at 10 years demonstrates shunt patency and normal development without rebleeding. An aggressive surgical strategy is justified as long as even nonconventional techniques are available to prevent life-threatening complications of portal hypertension. Prosthetic grafts can be used when no autologous vein graft is available. Decellularized allografts with reduced immunogenicity may also be effective alternative materials. Keywords: mesocaval anastomosis, PHT, prosthetic shun

    Get PDF
