FREQ: A computational package for multivariable system loop-shaping procedures

    Get PDF
Many approaches in the field of linear, multivariable time-invariant systems analysis and controller synthesis employ loop-sharing procedures wherein design parameters are chosen to shape frequency-response singular value plots of selected transfer matrices. A software package, FREQ, is documented for computing within on unified framework many of the most used multivariable transfer matrices for both continuous and discrete systems. The matrices are evaluated at user-selected frequency-response values, and singular values against frequency. Example computations are presented to demonstrate the use of the FREQ code

International Evidence Review of Conditional (Suspended) Sentences: Final Report

    Get PDF
This report reviews international use of conditional sentences, specifically understood to mean a criminal sentence of imprisonment which is suspended pending a person's satisfaction of specific criteria. These sentences are being considered in jurisdictions seeking ways of managing prison population growth. The laws and any information about use of such sentences among selected countries is considered in the first part. The second part reviews research on perceptions of such sentences, and community-based sentences generally. This research was requested by and submitted to the Scottish Government

Combined State and Parameter Estimation for a Static Model of the Maypole (Hoop-Column) Antenna Suface

    Get PDF
Parameter and state estimation techniques are discussed for an elliptic system arising in a developmental model for the antenna surface of the Maypole Hoop/Column antenna. A computational algorithm based on spline approximations for the state and elastic parameters is given and numerical results obtained using this algorithm are summarized

A new proton fluence model for E greater than 10 MeV

    Get PDF
Researchers describe a new engineering model for the fluence of protons with energies greater than 10 MeV. The data set used is a combination of observations made primarily from the Earth's surface between 1956 and 1963 and observations made from spacecraft in the vicinity of Earth between 1963 and 1985. With this data set we find that the distinction between ordinary proton events and anomalously large proton events made in earlier work disappears. The greater than 10 MeV fluences at 1 AU calculated with the new model are about twice those expected on the basis of models now in use. In contrast to earlier models, results do not depend critically on the fluence from any one event

    Two-Dimensional Sigma-Hole Systems in Boron Layers: A First-Principles Study on Mg_{1-x}Na_xB_2 and Mg_{1-x}Al_xB_2

    Get PDF
We study two-dimensional sigma-hole systems in boron layers by calculating the electronic structures of Mg_{1-x}Na_xB_2 and Mg_{1-x}Al_xB_2. In Mg_{1-x}Na_xB_2, it is found that the concentration of sigma holes is approximately described by (0.8 + 0.8 x) * 10^{22} cm^{-3} and the largest attainable concentration is about 1.6 * 10^{22} cm^{-3} in NaB_2. In Mg_{1-x}Al_xB_2, on the other hand, it is found that the concentration of sigma holes is approximately described by (0.8 - 1.4 x) * 10^{22} cm^{-3} and sigma holes are disappeared at x of about 0.6. These relations can be used for experimental studies on the sigma-hole systems in these materials.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
