Cytological Aspects on the Effects of a Nasal Spray Consisting of Standardized Extract of Citrus Lemon and Essential Oils in Allergic Rhinopathy
In this paper, a new formulation of nasal spray was set up based on the extract of lemon pulp, obtained by using a new solid-liquid
technology of extraction, added to pure Aloe juice, soluble propoli, and essential oils of Ravensara and Niaouly. It was tested in a clinical study in which 100 subjects were recruited for a period of one month. Nasal scraping was used for collecting samples and after the application of theMay-Grunwald Giemsa standard technique, glass slides were analysed by using optical microscope with a 1000x oil immersion. A control group constituted of ten people was recruited as control and this group was administered with physiological solution (saline solution). The comparison of results obtained before and after the application of nasal spray showed a total reduction of eosinophils granulocytes and mast cells; clinical data were confirmed by improvement of clinical pictures of patients. The lemon-based nasal spray was a good alternative to conventional medicine for the treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic and vasomotor rhinopath
Effects of the silica dust on the nasal mucosa of ceramic workers
Abstract: Background. Adverse health effects due to occupational exposures are a global public
health concern and have been studied for many years. Ceramic workers are occupationally exposed
to a wide range of toxic substances as they manage clay (silico-aluminous feldspar mixed with
sodium, potassium salts and iron oxide). The objective of this study was to assess the presence of any
inflammation or alteration of the nasal mucosa of ceramic workers by nasal cytology. Materials and
methods. Twenty-eight ceramic workers from Caltagirone (Italy) were enrolled. Nasal symptoms,
atopy, health habits and workplace features were assessed by a special questionnaire, and nasal
mucosa health was evaluated by nasal cytology. Results. The cytological study of the nasal mucosa
revealed the constant presence of abundant, thick and filamentous mucus, as well as a reorganization
of the nasal cellularity with a prevalence of muciparous hyperplasia and metaplasia in the study
group, and only in a lesser extent for the subjects with some protective environmental measures.
Conclusions. The ceramic workers showed chronic inflammatory rhinitis on nasal cytology, with a
remodelling of the nasal mucosa and thick mucus. Nasal cytology may be a helpful tool either for
the health surveillance of the ceramic workers, or for the screening of any pathology of the upper
airways
Adjuvant therapy with tablets containing sodium jaluronate, carbomer and xantam gum for gerd pharyngitis
Introduction: Chronic pharyngitis is one of the most frequent diseases of the upper
aerodigestive pathways. Gastro-esophageal reflux plays an important role in the g
this disease. In fact, the excessive exposure of the pharynx to the gastric contents leads to a
chronic irritation of the upper airways.
On the basis of the foregoing, the study of the present work aims to document the effect of
pastilles composed of xanthan gum, sodium hyaluronate, mannitol, sodium hydrogen
carbonate, sorbitol, citric acid, aspartame, vitamin C, aroma, zinc citrate dihydrate.
variation of salivary pH, of the symptomatology and of the objective picture in subjects
affected by secondary interest in acidity of the oral cavity.
Materials and methods: 50 subjects were recruited. They were enrolled by the affiliated
users to three ENT centers and supported by a gastroenterologist (Naples), 50 (25 males
and 25 females) with average age of 37aa, Min 6 aa, Max 65 aa patients affected by
secondary to acidity of the oral cavity. For each patient an objective examination was
performed and then the salivary pH changes were evaluated, using indicator maps, and
furthermore, the Reflux Symptoms Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Scores (RFS) were
administered before, during and after therapy to monitor the subjectivity of the
symptomatology and the laryngeal objective picture.
Results: The survey performed allowed to establish a clear improvement in all phases of
the study, both as regards the effects on pH, both on the side of the symptomatology and on
the laryngeal objective.
Discussion: The motivation for improving the clinical condition of the subjects is due to the
therapeutic properties of the substances used. In particular: the hyaluronic acid has a
regenerating power of the mucosa; carbomer and Xanthana Gum have a viscoelastic
behavior and contribute to the potency of ac. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid
through the formation of a hydrocomplex of high tolerability mucoadhesive polymers.
Conclusions: Undoubtedly it is a product capable of restoring the physiological conditions
of the oral cavity and the very first airways and their use not only acts as a restoration of the
physiological conditions of the oral cavity, but also as a preventive action for the
appearance of local and systemic diseases
Relationship between autism and nasal cytology
Autism is a complex psychopathology caused by an abnormal neuropsychological development to
which an individual is not able to self-regulate their feelings towards a coherent and correct psychomotor
activity and communicative. Many factors contribute to the onset of this disease, and recent studies have
highlighted, which important causes, in addition to the neuro-immunological interactions, the increased
presence in the blood of inflammatory substances such as cytokines. Our research has been devoted to the
identification of inflammatory cells in the nose in autistic patients by panoptic staining and microscopic
observation. From the results obtained it proved the presence of a greater number of inflammatory cells in
autistic subjects compared to normal individual
