In-Vitro Broad Band Impedance Study of a Biochemical Reaction under Nanopulses: Electrode Impedance as a Reaction Sensor
LGEP 2014 ID = 1663International audienceThis work is a first attempt to investigate the effects of ultra wideband (UWB) electromagnetic pulses upon a reaction of biological interest involved in neuronal communication, the hydrolysis of acetylcholine chloride (AChCl) catalyzed by the acetylcholine esterase enzyme (AChE). This study is based on broadband impedance measurements performed with the same cell in the range 40 Hz-4 GHz within 10s, without or with superimposed nanopulses, as a function of the elapsed time. The response above 1 MHz was assigned to the conductive and dielectric properties of the aqueous solution containing AChCl and AChE filling the cell. The response below 100 kHz was due to electrode impedance at the golden cell wall/solution interfaces. This low frequency behavior was ascribed to a dynamical adsorption-desorption process of AChCl in equilibrium with the bulk. The electrode impedance behaves as a sensor of the actual bulk concentration of AChCl when the reaction is in progress. From impedance spectra analysis it was shown that superimposed nanopulses slowed down the hydrolysis reaction, the stronger this effect the higher the pulse repetition rate. The inhibition of the reaction could be related to a lesser catalytic activity of AChE possibly through a conformational change induced by nanopulses

Proposal for Quantum Simulation via All-Optically Generated Tensor Network States
We devise an all-optical scheme for the generation of entangled multimode
photonic states encoded in temporal modes of light. The scheme employs a
nonlinear down-conversion process in an optical loop to generate one- and
higher-dimensional tensor network states of light. We illustrate the principle
with the generation of two different classes of entangled tensor network states
and report on a variational algorithm to simulate the ground-state physics of
many-body systems. We demonstrate that state-of-the-art optical devices are
capable of determining the ground-state properties of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg
model. Finally, implementations of the scheme are demonstrated to be robust
against realistic losses and mode mismatch.Comment: 6 pages main text plus 6 pages Supplementary Material and many

// ABSTRACT: Currently, several studies have found that the application of atmospheric cold plasma (PFA) could contribute to improve the safety of some foods. However, more research is needed on the chemical and organoleptic changes it causes in wine. The present study aimed to evaluate some of the chemical changes caused by the application of PFA in a Carménère variety wine. The treatments considered variations in the time of application of PFA with lapses of 0, 0.5, 1 and 3 minutes on sample volumes of 20 mL of wine. The results indicated that in the case of soluble solids and real acidity (pH) there were significant decreases in their concentration, while titratable acidity, concentration of phenols, and chromatic variables showed significant increase for some of the treatments. Additionally, and as a way to evaluate if the observed effects were due to the evaporation of part of the wine samples due to the PFA air flow, an experiment was carried out where the samples were exposed only to the instrument air flow. In this case, results with the same trend were observed but with less statistical significance, so it could be concluded that PFA can generate significant changes in the chemical composition of Carménère wine. Additionally, it is recommended to carry out more studies to determine the behavior of the results in a longer period of time
