The purpose of this study was to examine the lecturer\u27s awareness, perception, and utilization of institutional repositories in two universities in Nigeria. The universities include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Jos. The research design adopted for the study was correlational research design, while the questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The questionnaire was grouped into five sections and most of the questions were close-ended. Also, the validity and reliability of the questionnaire were done in order to obtain the desired results. Out of 642 questionnaires distributed, 473 were completed, returned, and found suitable for use. Descriptive and inferential statistics were then used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that lecturers\u27 level of awareness of IRs was moderate, this was indicated by a weighted average of 2.58 (65%). The findings also revealed the lecturer\u27s major sources of awareness of IRs were through University\u27s website 417 (88.2%), library sensitizations 286 (60.5%), and colleagues 288 (60.9%).The Majority of the lecturers slightly utilized IRs 243 (51.4%) for depositing scholarly materials. However, the majority of the lecturers indicated that they did not encounter many constraints when utilizing the repositories. In the course of the study, three hypotheses were tested and the findings from the hypotheses revealed that there was a positive significant relationship between awareness and utilization of IRs, perception, and utilization of IRs, awareness, and perception of the importance of IRs. It was concluded that an increase in the awareness and perception of IRs by lecturers increases their utilization of the IRs. Hence, recommendations were made to the library management of the two universities to intensify their advocacies, awareness campaigns, and sensitization excises in order to increase awareness and perception of lecturers which would in turn increase the utilization of the repositories

This study is concerned about the study habits of secondary school students. The quality of education is enhanced when students have good study habits and make good use of the library. Unfortunately, students adapt wrong methods of studying by procrastinating and then memorizing when examinations draw near. Some prefer to read in classrooms, home and at times religious centres where they hardly concentrate. The study, therefore, examined the relationship between study habits and library use among secondary schools in Akinyele Local Government area, Ibadan. A descriptive survey technique was employed for the study. Students questionnaire and interview were used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated in two secondary schools. There are about forty secondary schools in the area of study; the total population of students is about sixty-five thousand while the total population of the teacher librarians is forty. Out of the total population of students, 300 students and 10 teacher librarian were randomly selected using simple random sampling in which each school in the population had an equal chance of being selected. The mean, standard deviation, percentage and chi-test were employed to analyse the research questions. The study shows that government intervention towards the improvement of school library in the state is low and the students do not use library to study as a result of reported constraints: no standard library, lack of awareness programme on the method of using library, unavailability of current library materials and unqualified librarians. If the aforementioned constraints could be taken into consideration, the use of library would be enhanced and students would have good study habits. Based on the findings, the study recommends that government should finance school libraries for improvement or construct new ones where applicable. Well-trained and qualified librarians should be employed in the schools and there should be training and orientation programme for students on how to use the library for study

Abstract Insurance practitioners need information for their daily work activities, especially decision-making and way of implementing the decisions for organizational sources. Several studies have been carried out on information variables (information accessibility, availability and information) in academic institutions and libraries but few on insurance practitioners in Ibadan. The study, therefore investigates availability and accessibility as factors affecting the use of information resources by insurance practitioners in Ibadan. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study population was ten insurance companies in Ibadan out of which a sample of four companies was selected. A total of 100 or 83.3% of 120 practitioners selected for the study responded to the questions. Questionnaire, interview and observation methods were employed in the data collection. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages. The findings revealed that the use of library was relegated to the background, as there were few libraries and information centres in the organization. It was found that many factors were militating against the use of information resources e.g. irregular power supply, lack of funds and poor telecommunication system. Based on the findings, it was recommended that well equipped libraries or information centres should be established in the companies to effectively meet the user needs for higher productivity

The study equally examines the factors militating against the effective utilization of ICT in service delivery. The Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study, while questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The population of the study comprised of sixty (60) academic librarians in the three public universities of which fifty-one questionnaires were returned and valid for analyzing. Descriptive statistic tools such as simple percentage, tables were used in analyzing the data. The result revealed that ICT facilities such as printer, photocopy machine, computer system among others were available and used to deliver services like circulation services, access to electronic resources, email services among others. the computer self-efficacy of academic librarians is at moderate level while the major challenges were inadequate funding, erratic power supply, and low band width. Therefore, recommendations were made among which are that the university management should increase the funding of the library effective service delivery while academic librarians should put in more effect at improving their level of computer self-efficacy through capacity building
