Write Channel Model for Bit-Patterned Media Recording
We propose a new write channel model for bit-patterned media recording that
reflects the data dependence of write synchronization errors. It is shown that
this model accommodates both substitution-like errors and insertion-deletion
errors whose statistics are determined by an underlying channel state process.
We study information theoretic properties of the write channel model, including
the capacity, symmetric information rate, Markov-1 rate and the zero-error
capacity.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures, journa
Enhancing Binary Images of Non-Binary LDPC Codes
We investigate the reasons behind the superior performance of belief
propagation decoding of non-binary LDPC codes over their binary images when the
transmission occurs over the binary erasure channel. We show that although
decoding over the binary image has lower complexity, it has worse performance
owing to its larger number of stopping sets relative to the original non-binary
code. We propose a method to find redundant parity-checks of the binary image
that eliminate these additional stopping sets, so that we achieve performance
comparable to that of the original non-binary LDPC code with lower decoding
complexity.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, to be presented at IEEE GLOBECOM 201
Interviews on patient in intensive care at the AMC Baancode
We propose a new channel model for channels with synchronization errors.
Using this model, we give simple, non-trivial and, in some cases, tight lower
bounds on the capacity for certain synchronization error channels.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, to be presented at ISIT 201
